I was done with the repetitive busy work of public schools. 30yrs later I still have fifth grade folders that I created and illustrated. It was what I needed as a child that needed more than zero and ones

the one of most beautiful thing in woldorf school is the painting on the wall, the blue paint is like sky and ocean, the pink paint is like cotton candy, and the green paint, the purple paint, the yellow paint are all beautiful. they make me so peaceful and calm ^_^

My Cousin, Used To Go Here. But He Went To A Different School, Because Teachers were giving him a hard time. So yeah. His parents were mad. And by the way, I used to go here as well, But I got kicked out, For Vandalizing the Tornado Siren, Next To The Building.

Look, for me Waldorf education has worked. Teachers really cared about me, were interested in what their students think, how they feel. This humane part of Waldorf I missed after moving to another school, where everything was very efficient but self-centered.

Do they wait until 3rd grade to introduce reading or not? That's a deal breaker. I was reading by 3 or 4 years old? All the kids at my school were reading by that age as well.

+hydraelectricblue In Finland school doesn't really start until age 7 although some go at age 6. Finland's literacy rate is 100% in one of the hardest languages in the world, including special needs people can read and write.

Future Hindsight it's the IQ not the age. A child with an IQ of 125 who is never taught to read, will self teach (as long as they live in a literate environment) by age 11, and will be a better more competent reader, by the time he is a young adult, than the 80 IQ child who is taught to read at age 4 or 5.

A child who reads and writes before the age of 7 will tend to become an automate, it is better if we wait, like for any other thing in life. This is a major difference between the American and European cultures. Americans tend to begin way sooner to read and write, making their society one of over-specialized half-robotic human beings. On the long run, Europeans are generally better educated though.

These people are right when it comes to child development and education, but their egalitarian religion is oh so wrong.

My cousin is 10. She has been to Waldorf education all her life. She was never allowed to use any screens or battery operated toy. I went to private school and laughed at the fact that she could not read by age 7. She still cannot. She also has been taught that everyone and everything will be fair and un stressful. This frustrates and depresses me.

My daughter was educated K- 12 in a Waldorf school and it was a wonderful and fulfilled education. Third grade is when the children are most ready to learn to read and so my daughter too began her formal reading practice at this age too. Where is she now at 28, she graduated from UC Berkeley with honors in Architecture and is a practicing Architect in Denver, CO.

By the way Ben there is no teacher that teaches that "everything will be fair and without stress". Although in a Waldorf school unlike most schools of today, children work gradually into academics rather than starting them in Kindergarten.

+Ben Khamis My children are Waldorf kids and they and their peers do use computers at home. They are 11 and 8 and the youngest can do more practical things than some kids of 16. She can sand wood and make tools, build shelters and knit...she can sew and make costumes as well as play music and write songs. Both of my kids read at an advanced level because they were allowed to learn at their own pace. There was no stress.

Oh really, please explain how scientific is his claim that the properties of materials are not derived from their chemical composition? And how scientific was his infamous alternative theory of evolution and human races?

That is not correct. Steiner did not create or say and write anything that has not been said and discovered by the philosophers and great thinkers before, like Aristotle and Plato, just to throw out two names. Basic cosmic truths do not change, they can be expressed in different ways, though- through science, philosophy, or spirituality. The truths behind stand unmoved, and Steiner did not "invent" or "make up" anything but based his approach on these basic, cosmic truths.

This link is on my bookmarks bar. When i go to youtube i click this and listen to the first 35 seconds.... My 3 boys loved singing this song all through school. Songs we learn in childhood are the ones we best remember our entire life. IMO, this beats "The Brady Bunch" lead-in.

Beware of the Waldorf Schools they are a total scam. The so called antroposophy is based on nothing except the writing of the demagogue Steiner and it's totally unscientific.

I sent my daughter to a Waldorf school K - 12 at the East Bay Waldorf School in the San Francisco Bay Area. I would have loved this education myself. She is now 26, and an Architect in San Francisco, CA having graduated from UC Berkeley with honors.
