Don't like this technique. If someone has a firm tight grip its not going to be that easy to get out of that.
@JohnConnorsMMA5 күн бұрын
@dannythorne7143 this technique is done successfully every day. If your opponent has tight grips everything is difficult. Have you tried it?

Thanks but sometimes some people use their knee to make the half guard tight as possible so almost impossible to move the knee

Last night we had a guy who weighed about 300 pounds that was on his second week and he was ready try some sparing so to be "fair" I let him start in mount. Spent 5 minutes pulling his shoulder off my face to take sips of air. Could've used this. And allegedly I'm a purple belt LOL. Will add this...but I'm worried when I open up I'll get mounted. Will have to try on some lighter guys. Thank you for posting.
@JohnConnorsMMA12 күн бұрын
Yes. When you "open up" you need to keep your knee up and keep your arm framed on their hip. The common beginner mistake is to put both feet on the ground and bridge. That leaves a big opening to get mounted.

I love these videos, but not sure about the practicality of this escape. The guy on top is not pressuring down, or using his other arm. If the person on top is pressuring down, I'm not sure this works.
@JohnConnorsMMA12 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment. 1. All techniques either work or do not work depending on the context. 2. In this video, I specifically point to the context of the top player grabbing around the shoulder. This response is relatively common. 3. If the opponent gripped and applied pressure differently so that I could not do the above, I would do something else. 4. If you do not have in your skill set an escape similar to that in the video, then you are limiting your potential solutions and making it easier for your opponent to control you. 5. I have used something similar to what's show in the video essentially every day for the last decade against skilled opponents. In fact, even if your opponent does not grab you in the way shown, if you can get under your opponent enough and get to the fulcrum position you can make it work. 6. There are no unstoppable techniques, only potential solutions given the context.

Great video. My school calls the person under 3/4 mount being in “desperation guard”. This is a viable solution to that predicament.

I find it almost impossible to break their posture down like that. It's instinct to posture up and sit back.

I understand what you're saying. Often your opponent will try to get chest to chest. In that moment, a sweep like this works well, if only to just off balance them.
