I love this film so much and this is one of my favorite scenes! Apparently it was written specifically to give Juliet Stevenson a chance to dance and be silly.

I'll have to watch this movie. Good of Alan to acknowledge visual effects workers as well as physical on-set crew. Sure beats the attitude of some directors and actors these days when it comes to making a movie. Those who are in the business know exactly who I'm talking about.... :-/

The profoundly adult and emotional complexity of this central theme is stunning: Juliet Stevenson's life has fallen apart and come to a dead stop of numbness, regret, despair, cynical mockery and alienation from life-positive love and erotic energies. She has only her unquenchable longing for the return of her lover. Everywhere that she sees couple together, there she is prompted to anger, mockery, vengeance, and tears. There she feels only the rip and gap in her heart where her lover should be. So saintly Alan comes back to life, in a rather serious transgression of the rule that the dead are indeed dead. On the pretext that he had not properly died. It is pure wish-fulfilment for JS, of the most oceanic, unbridled, childhood, avalanche delight. Yet he knows and she knows this fantasy cannot last. So he must engineer that most tragic seeming but necessary gesture, for the women who will love him for all eternity. To find a replacement love, to revive her heart from the gutter of cold inactivity. Brilliant, for we are all sucked into this impossible see-saw moral-psychical-affectional dilemma. We want our devotion to our departed soulmate to be limitless and eternal, but that is often a slow poison and embalming of our hearts. We need new romantic companionship and erotic bliss, to restoke the engines of our life and our capacity to see the sunshine and rainbows and indeed the value of all life again. Altruism and optimism presuppose life-positivity and romantic, sensuous erotic power. What an incredible gift and honour and ceaseless delight to have the companionship of a woman with such powers wit, insight, playfulness and emotional drama. A mixture of Emily Dickenson, Emily Bronte, Richard and Cosima Wagner, Sylvia Plath, Erica Jong, Hilary Hahn! A goddess sat upon the couch, at the piano, and in ones arms ..... if one were so lucky! Love andrea
