The mirror metaphor isn't quite right as the central foundations of this new technology are *statistical* in a way that reflections of light are not. We don't yet know the role of statistics in human creativity and insight but it is at least plausible that LLMs and other AI is closer to modelling this than any tech we have had before - and certainly closer than the analogy of a mirror.

Interesting reflections 😂. I like the mirror analogy. The jury is still out on if AI can create truly original possibilities for us in the future.

That argument “sounds” good but it is completely void. It’s much complex that that. Reflection can be described by as simple math equations. But what about algorithms that learn to abstract, combine and create with something that seems like a limited intuition? Intuition is not copying someone’s else’s text. I not saying it is conscious, I’m just saying it’s much harder to describe and understand that a simple mirror.

Wow. This was super insightful.

Senior developers in AI companies are quitting their jobs because they believe we have already gone to far. Yet you disregard them with flippancy. I find this scary because at no point did you even consider contingency plans if AI ever gets off the rails. You don't care that we are using output from AI that is so frequently wrong it is just unreliable. You don't care about so much that is wrong with AI that it can be the case that you benefit in some way from protecting AI. This lecture was vacuous. Either through incompetence or by deliberately lieing you failed to mention major long term fears or even immediate maluse of a deeply broken technology. My question: When are you going to start being honest and transparent about the current AI platform and the direction it is heading with no constraints?
