If you get a job driving these, build good habits from day one, habits for safety , but also technique. never trust yourself, double check that you indeed did unhook the airlines, before dropping a trailer. I have been driving yard trucks for 12 years, and you will get distracted at times, by radio calls, truckers asking questions of you , etc. They always happen at the wrong time. Your busy, and they all (inside) need their trailers moved and then you are distracted and forget what you just did. It happens. So Learn to check yourself, it's free, and it only takes a second or two. I have borken airlines a few times or stretched them, gotten them covered in grease when they slid over the Fifth wheel, and that is a mess to clean up, because it will get all over you if you don't. Broken airlines can put you down, and then you're in a pickle trying to repair a hose or waiting on maintenance. I have trained several people on these over the years, and on day cabs with manual 10 speeds, with power lift Fifth wheels also. it's the little things, the little habits you form that help you be a good driver. Good luck, and enjoy.

What a sad load of shit, sorry. Capacity should go Ottawa for defamation. Most of this shit is just wrong, wrong, wrong. Including that crap about getting out of the cab, and standing on the front R/H side. Capacity has massive "NO STEP" stickers. At least we know. Ottawa votes Trump.

My companiy has been trying out these Autocar trucks in recent years. Of course they are just a copy of a Ottawa but after about three years, the whole fleet started falling apart with the same issues. Nothing like the quality of a Kalmar.

WOT on mine was 26mph. Put a dummy glad hand on service line with a separate spring (all the others came with one spring for 2 lines). I put a cb in with magnetic antenna. After hooking up the airline, I’d release the brake, then rev it up to lift the fifth wheel. Was quicker to air up the trailer this way. The other jockeys (kids) would hook up and drag the trailer, wheels still locked up. They’d hit a trailer backing another one in and try to blame it on street drivers. Except the damage done by jockey trucks cannot be done by street drivers ( a jockey truck, backing a trailer in, will only hit the other trailer at the top. So if you are going to drive like them, make sure you kiss ass with management!

TERBERG yt is the most driver friendly truck . On american model the exhaust is right behind the driver making blind side back up easier and the cabin is way roomier . You exit on the right side of vehicle meaning you don't have to twist yourself out .

Hey, I've got a question on this and maybe you can help. Does the driver know the up/down position of the 5th wheel? I've seen where there are sensors on some telling the driver how high or low the 5th wheel is? If not, wouldn't that be helpful?
@stormshadax
@stormshadax Жыл бұрын
@@Knightfan11 there is usually not a signal or sign. It's done by feel unfortunately. But the driver should be able to see the hitch up to a certain point, then he/she is blind till they hit the knuckle. It would be great to have like a cam on the bottom though. Would make it easy easier

Line up the back tire with the front of the parking space. Pull to a 45 degree angle and then get back in front of the trailer. You should be able to get in perfect

@Hahodi d - On an OTR truck you do. This is a yard truck. Its sole purpose is to quickly and efficiently move trailers short distances. They can move up to triple digits of trailers a day, so it wouldn't make sense using all the energy and time to get out and crank it every single time.
