I'm having a devil of a time with a RHEL8 rsyslog aggregate server. At first, SELinux was blocking the creation of folders on the nfs mount for the host trying to send logs to it (fromhost-ip). Then after running ausearch -c many many times, as suggested by the journalctl -t setroubleshoot command, it now, finally, will create the folder and even populate with log files from the remote server. However, if I status the rsyslog service there are many errors indicating that it can't append to those files. It seems SELinux wants the context of the nfs share to be var_log_t, but the nfs share is setup as nfs_t. I can't change the context of the nfs share as other servers use it and I'm not sure of the effect that might have. Any ideas or advice?

Hi @timothyriley4209, SELinux expects var_log_t for rsyslog logs, but your NFS is nfs_t. You can fix this by enabling setsebool -P nfs_export_all_rw 1 to allow rsyslog to write to NFS or create a custom SELinux policy using audit2allow. Alternatively, you can mount the directory with the correct SELinux context using context="system_u:object_r:var_log_t:s0" in your fstab entry. If nothing works, test by temporarily disabling SELinux (setenforce 0) to confirm the issue, be sure to re-enable. Hope this works/helps

hi, on ubuntu you can run every program? or are you limited by the arm cpu?
@harunaadoga

If you install the arm CPU ubuntu, you are limited to arm-based applications. You can install x86_64 using the 'emulation' option rather than virtualisation.

In wireshark, how to deduct other connected devices traffic on the same network?

You can filter out any device’s traffic, using its IP address. Also, you can focus your packets capture on the interface connected to only the devices that interests you.

i was able to complete all the steps and successfully installed however it doesn't appear that i can connect to a network although it says i have a wireless connection. for example, i noticed that none of the software app icons appear like in your video at 08:42 mark. in addition when running sudo apt update in terminal it fails to update. do you have any suggestions?

@@harunaadoga Apologies for the confusion-I believe I've identified the culprit: my VPN was active. After pausing it and restarting UTM, everything works without issues. I assume that unless I set up the VPN inside the VM, I'll need to remember to turn it off before booting UTM. That's what I plan to continue doing until I'm more familiar with the setup. Thanks for your response, my friend!

Thanks for sharing. Quick question. Can I use wireshark to monitor traffic on my laptop as opposed to monitoring traffic on a network? Say I am using my laptop in a cafe, or at the public library and I want to keep an eye on the traffic on my laptop ?
@harunaadoga
@harunaadoga 8 ай бұрын
I am glad you found the video useful. Yes, you can use Wireshark to monitor traffic on your laptop. Just select the right interface (Wi-Fi in your case), turn off promiscuous mode (to only capture packets destined for your laptop, or originated from it). Just remember to avoid capturing traffic from other devices on the network without their permission :)

I will watch out for your uploads and will probably give you a shout if I need help. Thanks again for your help.

Hi @aminasrna2838 this seem to be a permissions problem or possibly another process is using the ISO file. Quit UTM, and try adding a read permission on the file: try running "chmod u+r /Users/mop1/Downloads/jammy-desktop-arm64.iso" from your terminal. Also, what's the specification of your Macbook?

@@lomodeedee try checking if any other programs might be using the ISO file. Close any such applications that might have the file open. Also, check the "Sharing & Permissions" section under 'Get Info' on the file, to ensure your user account has "Read" permission on the ISO image file downloaded.
