This is a great memory that I took with me after I graduated in 1967. It went right by Angel Hall and across the street my dorm Helen Newberry residence. I doubt that the residence is there anymore a small warm intimate place to live.

I lived in Ann Arbor from 1974-84 and went to my first Michigan game in September '74. I've been a fan ever since. I've always considered the band to be part of the team. They're definitely one of the very best in the country.

I can remember the very first game I went to back in the mid 70's and the band had me mesmerized, my family loved the band so much we would go I think it was every Thursday and watch the band practice and when I became an adult and my children took interest in the marching band I would take them when they were younger I said all of this to say. There is no band like the University of Michigan Marching Band GO BLUE!!!!!!

When Revelli (aka "the chief") and Cavender led The Michigan Marching Band, this lack of precision would have never been tolerated, even in practice.

As someone who was actually IN the marching band in high school (my university did not have one) I agree with you 100%. I'd be right there next to you on that ground today! But to think that 40 years ago I marched at the football games in the November cold with light snow on the ground and marched MILES in every Memorial Day parade in full dress WOOL uniform in the heat and humidity the last week of May and didn't really think anything about it makes me long for my youth. At least THESE guys get to wear shorts and tee shirts. That wasn't allowed back in the old days! LOL

@retroguy94943 жыл бұрын
@@texasag6297 Exactly what it says dude. Band kids are high school/college students who are members of their schools band! Another word they used to use when I was in school as 'bandies.' There is kind of a sub culture around band kids. And, I'm afraid, a few stereotypes as well. At least on the high school level.

Oh...you know I had to raz you. But I have been a life-long band geek, and do not understand how we regularly (in High School) marched parades like The Aqua-Festival and every single football game and marching competition in full gabardine wool uniforms - wool, not poly-wool blends - but bands today wear shorts until October? It was 100 degrees back then too. I don't think we were any tougher than today's kids. I have seen the shows they put on and the work it takes to get those shows down solid.
