Long term temperatures AVERAGE 7 deg C hotter than today. Long term CO2 AVERAGE 1500 ppm, over 3 times more than today's 420 ppm. Long term there were no ice caps for 80% + of the time. These conditions drove our evolution, nurtured it, and all life including the great mega fauna & flora. In the medium term, the glaciation we are still in has seen regular global warmings of 10 deg C in a matter of decades. This is far beyond anything we have seen, the 1 deg C rise in the last 100 years seems like nothing compared to the dramatic climate change our forebears endured. And they didn't have houses, heating, cooling, uber-eats or any such luxury. To back this up, this is quoted from Britannica regarding D-O cycles: _"Ice core records in samples extracted from Greenland, Antarctica, Canada’s Arctic Archipelago, and high mountain glaciers in South America show that these climate changes have been large, very rapid, and globally synchronous. Over a period of a few years to a few decades, average temperatures have shifted by up to half of the temperature differences seen between the Pleistocene ice ages and their interglacial periods-that is, as much as 5-15 °C (9-27 °F)." _ During the Last Glacial Maximum (~20k years ago) up to 60% of humans were wiped out from catastrophic climate change. Much of north west Europe including northern France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK was abandoned by humans - it got too cold to live there. By 8000 years ago, Mesolithic people living in Doggerland had to abandon their homeland due to rapidly rising sea levels - it's now called the English Channel. Virtually all of the 120 m sea rise occurred before industrialization. During the Holocene we're in now (last 11 K years), the first half known as the Holocene Climatic Optimum was around 3-5 deg C hotter than today. Then the Roman and Medieval warm periods were also warmer than today. I could go on all day giving you examples of natural climate change, suffice to say you need to read much more widely than the doomer crud that comes out of the UN, who are always seeking more power and money by trying to brainwash and scare everyone. Climate Change = Natural Variation

Not just the SAS and SBS. The UK Royal marines would do better than any other marines in any other country on any given task. This isn't just from random youtube video knowledge, this is straight from the horses mouths, there is plenty of videos on US marines working with British marines. They will tell you. The Royal Marines band is the best by far and the marine training is the hardest and longest of any marines in any country. The only thing other countries have on the UK is the military size and military budget because of the UK land mass. Look at the countries that the UK are being put against, USA, China, Russia and India. The WHOLE of the UK fits into one USA state Texas THREE times. India 13 times bigger than UK, fits 39 times into China, Russia 70 times bigger. But when it comes to training, knowledge and things like surveillance/radar technology, nobody is better than UK, when it comes to military equipment design arguable UK is best along with USA. The UK have the best submarines along with USA. The best tanks along with USA and Germany. The UK punches well above it's weight and would offer any country that was fighting a war more capable assistance than any other country.

Did you serve? I did and worked alongside Australian, Canadian, New Zealanders, Americans, Germans, French. In fact most western countries, and 1 or two Asian and African countries.. Only my first 3 maybe 4 countries came close to being on par. Other armies maybe bigger, have better equipment in some cases. If I was off to war again. Let's say the Russians. And I could pick and choose my own platoon of infantryman. I would pick my fellow Brits, every single time. With maybe a section made up from Aussie, kiwis and Canadians. It's the man with the rifle and the bayonet that wins wars. To close with and destroy the enemy. To take and hold ground. Every other arm ie tanks, artillery engineers. Jet, ship etc. Their job is to help me and my muckers achieve that aim. I rest my case 🇬🇧

After having spent 18 yrs in the army, i can honestly say no. We are nowhere near the best. Our numbers are dropping because no one of this generation wants to rough it outdoors. our current fleet of tanks which is only 214....enough for 3 regiments, is 25 yrs old, with only some minor upgrades. Our AS90 fleet is even worse. Uniforms have gotten alot better, pay has stayed the same, you can earn more stacking shelves. Our navy is a joke, which carrier is broken this week? The RAF have all the big ticket items, but you cant fight a war from the air. In Iraq and Afghan, we were known as the borrowers.....we would scrounge ammo food and water from the yanks. My last afghan tour, we was down to 1 pint of water per day, no .50 cal ammo and low on rations....this lasted until we asked the yanks to drop some supplies to us. We are a tier 2, maybe even a tier 3 force at best. We are only in the top 10 because we have nukes.

The fifth best military force or the fifth in terms of size ? If it's the fifth best in the world, I would disagree outright. They did extremely well in the jungles of Malaya against the Indonesians during the confrontation and again against the communists. If it had been the americans, I dare think it would had been messy and full of failures. The Brits and the Aussies along with the Gurkhas accomplished their mission superbly. Had they not been with their wits and bravery, I dare say Malaya would had been another Vietnam.

@@noblesicks I am against Russia, and Ukraine, but you have to be fair and logical about this. Russia's military is not "weak". With what they have and with their capabilities they SHOULD be the 2nd strongest on the planet, or at least the third. But corruption is the main reason for their losses in Ukraine, and their lack of maintenance. Russia was very strong and capable in the early 2000s because the vehicles and tactics they used were still "new", and were well maintained.

@@Waywind420 first, it was a tiny fraction of nato. It didnt even amount to 5 percent of nato combat power. Second, for 20 years the us moved wherever it wanted in Afghanistan and it suffered less than 2000 killed (100 guys a year on average). 53k hostile fighters died fighting against us and the taliban eventually got tired of living in caves and agreed to all U.S. demands in the doha accords. The us peaked at 100k soldiers total in Afghanistan, and for a large chunk of the war held the entire country with just a few thousand guys. Putin recently claimed to have 600k people in ukraine and the most reliable estimates put russian casualties at around 800 a day for the last month or so. @@Typexviiib I think your analysis of NATO's performance in Afghanistan is flawed. Average troop density to hold down an area is about 10.76 per 1,000 civilians, so you'd 40-50,000 just to hold Kabul alone, one city. This was doable with the ANA, but that's not really NATO and the ANA crumbled instantly the moment NATO pulled out. Fact remains, all that war in Afghanistan amounted to zero gain and an eventual loss. regarding the 5% claim you make, not all of NATO's troops are deployable, I believe perhaps 1/5th would be deployable in times of desperation, but by doing that you'd essentially have the entire military being rotated into combat deployments at various times resulting in friends and family of those soldiers opposing such war efforts at the ballot box. Russia has been fighting in an actual contested space, with opposition that is equipped with advanced weaponry that has been donated to the Ukrainian military as a way for companies and governments to test how well their tech holds up in actual warfare. When Russia joined the Syrian war, their 5,000 deployment completely swung the outcome of that conflict overnight, and that shows how effective their war fighting can be when facing similar opposition to what NATO dealt with in Afghanistan.
