Seriously!!!.....would you really let this guy come into your property?!!!...he looks like a criminal!!!....this is just COMMON SENSE!!...he's beefing himself up for no reason!..the fact that a QUALIFIED surveyor hasn't identified the problem is a cause of concern on such a simple find. Also, this guys got Tatts! 🤮

This is exactly what happened to me. A £2 part on the feeder tank popped off when I was in the house and mains water flooded it. It was £15k damage done in a matter of minutes. I now turn off the water in my new house when we go away and get looked at like I have two heads. Tempted to fit one of those auto cut off ones

How is the top half of the chimney supported whist the plate is slid under? Those brick must still weigh heavy. I see you would put the brackets up before but just wondered how it happens...
@HYPEBuilding
@HYPEBuilding 3 күн бұрын
Great question! When using gallows brackets to remove a chimney breast, the key is ensuring the load is properly supported before you start. Typically, temporary props or supports are placed under the top half of the chimney to bear the weight while the gallows brackets and the supporting plate are being installed. These props hold the weight of the chimney until the brackets are securely fixed and the plate can be slid into place. Once everything is properly supported and the brackets are in position, the temporary supports can be removed. It's important to do this carefully to avoid any risk of collapse during the process.

Jesus there's not going to be much of a room left by the time you have finished. Isn't there a simple 6 mm insulating board that can be glued on the wall without all the faf.
@HYPEBuilding
@HYPEBuilding 3 күн бұрын
Yes, there are 6mm insulating boards available that can be glued directly onto walls. However, when installing insulated plasterboard, the thicker board (usually around 12.5mm to 25mm) provides better insulation and durability, especially for areas that need more thermal or soundproofing. While gluing a thinner board might seem easier, you might sacrifice performance in the long run. It’s always a balance between ease of installation and the insulation you need.

Do I need planning permission for garage conversion? I putting shower room small kitchen and bedroom.closing garage door into window and putting small window for toilet. Thanks
@HYPEBuilding
@HYPEBuilding 3 күн бұрын
Whether or not you need planning permission for a garage conversion depends on a few factors. If you're only changing the garage into a living space (like a bedroom, small kitchen, and shower room) without altering the external appearance too much, you might be able to do it under Permitted Development rights. However, once you start making changes like adding a window where the garage door is or putting in plumbing for a shower and toilet, it could require planning permission. It's always a good idea to check with your local council to make sure you're meeting building regulations and to confirm whether planning permission is needed, especially with the changes you're making. Better safe than sorry!

Hi there, my bricks are 110mm deep, if I cut the rods in 2 it will only be inserted at 90mm deep, will that be sufficient ?
@HYPEBuilding
@HYPEBuilding 3 күн бұрын
Cutting the rods in half to 90mm depth should still work, but it’s not ideal. Ideally, you want them inserted deeper for better effectiveness. If possible, use full-length rods or add more for better coverage.

Fab/informative video 👏👏 We have an old Victorian cottage 1850 which has a suspended floor (floor feels fine, no sagging or weak spots, feels solid under foot) but at some point its been tiled over.. can i install a insulated floating floor over the victorian suspended floor that is tiled or will cause damp underneath ? Any help/info is appreciated 😊😊
@HYPEBuilding
@HYPEBuilding 3 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment, so great question! A suspended wooden floor is typically raised off the ground with ventilation space underneath. This allows air to circulate, helping to prevent dampness. The floor joists sit on bearers, which are supported by brick or concrete piers. The gap under the floor is crucial for airflow, keeping the floor dry and preventing rot.

Splended vid! How would you insulate if the skin was solid brick rather than single skin? Also by creating your own cavity, did the floor area decrease considerably? Whats your views on EWI? Thanks
@HYPEBuilding
@HYPEBuilding 3 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment, Good questions! If you have a solid brick wall, you can insulate it using internal insulation like PIR boards or insulated plasterboard, or even by adding a stud wall with insulation between the studs. Both options help improve thermal performance without needing to affect the external appearance. Creating your own cavity (by adding a layer of insulation and a plasterboard finish) does slightly reduce the floor area, but the effect is minimal, usually around 50-75mm depending on the insulation type. As for External Wall Insulation (EWI), it’s a great option for improving insulation and reducing heat loss, especially on solid walls. It keeps the thermal mass of the wall inside and can be very effective, but it does change the external appearance, so it’s important to check with your local council before proceeding :)

Lovely video. New to the industry so appreciate any advice. Regarding the internal wall insulation, theres groups out there is causes serious condensation problems in the future. I would love a reply explaining how you tackle this promlem. Thanks
@HYPEBuilding
@HYPEBuilding 3 күн бұрын
Welcome to the industry! Great question. Condensation issues can arise with internal wall insulation if it's not installed properly, mainly because the warm air inside the room can condense on cold surfaces. To tackle this, it's important to use a vapour control layer (VCL) to prevent moisture from getting trapped between the insulation and the wall. Also, you want to ensure proper ventilation in the room, as this helps reduce the risk of moisture buildup. Using breathable insulation materials like PIR boards or insulated plasterboard with a VCL can really help prevent condensation. It's all about managing moisture levels properly!

@HYPEBuilding

After installing the damp proofing rods, any damp plaster is removed. Then, you can re-plaster with a waterproof render or salt-resistant plaster once the wall is dry.

Sorry, this is ridiculous... 6" of concrete (reinforced, I suppose?) and then (insulation and) *another* 2" of concrete screed?!! How on Earth is that in any way sustainable? You could drive a 40T artic over that lot!! Is this the utterly moronic OTT building control stupidity at work again, or what? If the concrete was a slab supporting the entire brick structure then I'd understand but all it is supporting is furniture and foot traffic FCOL!! Why not put the insulation *under* the concrete and run the UFH pipes in that?!! And make it 3" thick, *max*?!!! The top membrane is *surely* just to contain the liquid screed - and your waffle about 'condensation'... What?!!!

Good Video, I use the cream myself. The rods can be expensive to purchase especially from Safeguard. Even if you drill right through the brick course, which is rare, you can tell if you do drill straight through. I always find-out the thickness of the walls before drilling and even if you do drill through the cream is injected at very low pressure and you draw the applicator out while injecting so only a small amount is lost. Also make sure you hoover all the dust out of the holes before injecting.

When would you put stud walls in after screed or straight of the concrete?
@HYPEBuilding
@HYPEBuilding 3 күн бұрын
Stud walls should go in after the screed has fully dried. Installing them too soon could trap moisture, leading to issues like warping or mould.

Hi mate, a question if don't mind . My house is over 100 years old ,with stone and old lime plaster. Damp in places at times. I want to install insulated plasterboard to all external walls . I was thinking of dpc ,planed 2x1 then screw the slabs rather than mushroom fix directly to the wall. I just feel that the dampness may travel through. Do you reckon thats my best option. Cheers and thanks for your content
