Thanks for sharing, seems like we go backwards sometimes with Engineering. Why they don't bring this back with today's knowledge, I've no idea.

Beautiful sound and real engineering skills 148 litres of power ( were they a bit heavy when loaded with all the kit ? ) What ever the mpg's were it didn't matter to protect Blighty !! Seems a bit of a waste now as we "not the collective " but the fat controller seems to have have completely given the ball away ! You wouldn't even see it after dark due to the colour change . R . I .P. all those who tried to keep protect us + +++++ check out " Merlin start-up " on you tube to see what fun it was back before we were invaded !!!

Excellent footage. I was there as a kid that day, had the joy of going out for a city tour in a Super Puma helicopter. I’m sure I recall the commentator on the day saying this was a Concorde filled with passengers doing a planned fly past and touch and go on either it’s outbound or inbound journey. If so that must have been something a little different for them.

1984... Was a surprise to see Concord touch down and keeping the nose angle so to take off and in foul weather. Was a very miserable and cold day but very enjoyable between the routine commercial flights getting to do low fly pasts and all the RAF classic jets including WW2 vintage making it a very enjoyable day. The Jaguar that that was due to display blew a tyre on arrival and a replacement jet had to be sent down from Lossiemouth. Last major display at Aberdeen.

Interesting fact : the pilot (George Aird) that flew RS712 out of Strathallan that day was the very same pilot that had been very fortunate to survive the crash of English Electric Lightning F1 XG332 on 13th September 1962 ... and probably the most famous photograph of a Lightning was taken seconds before it impacted just short of the runway at Hatfield : fearoflanding.com/photography/the-story-behind-an-unbelievable-photograph/ Having been born and bred in Exeter back in the 50's I recall the Mosquitoes of No. 3 CAACU (Civilian Anti Aircraft Cooperation Unit), especially 9th May 1963 when they carried out the last official flypast over Exeter ... RS712 was one of the aircraft that flew over my school that day! www.warbirdsintlnow.com/assets/wijul-aug18woodenwonder.pdf

The Mosquito pilot was George Aird. He was the test pilot flying a English Electric Lightning F1 who ejected at low altitude in Hatfield, Hertfordshire 13th September 1962. This resulted in one the most famous (and much syndicated) photographs of a pilot ejecting - see :- www.ejection-history.org.uk/project/Biographies/changeme/A/Aird_george/Aird_George.htm

I have a crudely framed print of 125 Business Jet , signed by George Aird and a Dan Gurney , Chris Capper , Tony Craig and a Keith T**** ....maybe Thomas?? The print was apparently removed from a reception room at BAE in Hawarden in N.Wales . I didn`t know he , George Aird was a pilot with such special aviation connections . Does anyone on here have any info on the other gentleman named above .

For anyone still wondering what she was doing at ABZ, here is my post 6yrs ago: "Folks, the reason - the REAL reason - Conc was in ABZ was as part of a display to celebrate 50yrs of ABZ - the airport opened in 1934, Conc was part of the celebrations. But go-arounds & T&G only - it could land...but on that runway (& with the rain) it would not be able to taxi round & take off again." As I recall even the afternoon LHR arrival (Trident 3) did a flyby & circuit before landing! And yes - it was a shit day weather-wise.... it is Scotland after all! :o)
