My only "complaint" about the Vhikk X is that it's kind of inscrutable...it's difficult to know how to get a desired sound. But that's also why it's so fun, it's a new journey of discovery every time you use it. And it just sounds freaking amazing. Looking forward to more of your vids on it!

Dope AF Can you say more about three-movement structures?
@metamyther3 ай бұрын
Sure - I am heavily influenced by Joseph Campbell and his "hero's journey" story arc you see in pretty much all literature. I have thought of my songs as three-act films, with a palette of sounds that are explored and recontextualized as the song goes on. Sometimes we end up in a completely different place by the end but it still sort of makes sense. I am still working on this with my dawless modular performances, which are actually more like improvisations where I set up a sandbox for myself to play in. If you want to hear more clear three-act structures in my work definitely check out my studio work, it is more obvious there.
@playingintongues3 ай бұрын
@@metamyther That's a deep idea. I think a lot about the structure of a piece as a whole. BTW I noticed how coherent this piece is over the whole exposition. Usually I feel like improvisers should have stopped long before they actually did.
@metamyther3 ай бұрын
@@playingintongues thanks so much for saying that. i am always (maybe too much) thinking of the boredom of the crowd when i play these improvs... and yeah i'm heavily thinking about structure in the studio. you'll see what i mean, every track from my project has this 3-movement structure.

This is incredible. Do you find the Hermod+ rachette support and other features good enough for IDM?
@metamyther3 ай бұрын
A lot of the skittering of the Vhikk was created by screwing around with a super short Time and the other effect controls like Form and Cell, as opposed to with traditional racheting :) So if you take out that layer the rest is quite a simple beat. I like to use the Hermod's effects to create small but noticeable changes in the pitches using the Random effect, then making sure it goes into a Scale effect so it's not totally atonal.
