Never beat yourself up if you did your job, and did it well. Some people just have the worst luck, and well others... it's up to them to take the warning seriously. You guys did an awesome job that day. I remember it all too well. I lived in Calera, and graduated a month later. The tornado that was coming out of Brent and heading to either Montevallo or Calera was the one that got our attention the most. Though, Calera was spared, we were prepared. Thank you for all that you guys do! Keep up the good work!

Weatherman James Spann is a Birmingham Institution. If you look up words like legendary, individual, and dedication there's a picture of James Spann. Hat's off to you JS.

A friend of mine had a dream about two weeks after being in this tornado in 2011. In the dream he asked the Tornado 🌪 which he said had eyes nose and mouth: what’s your name? The tornado 🌪 replied: TUSCALOOSA TAMMY! Man a lot of people are going to die today they just don’t know it yet!

I used to have a Hasbro “Spin-up Tornado” with live action. (I’d always run my Evel Knievel live-action into it) Get a couple drop dude.

Whatever profession you want to do, kids, approach it with as much passion and toughness as Mr Spann, and you’ll be alright.

3:33:00 - 4:11:00 was when the Rainsville EF5 occurred, ripping through a good portion of Northeast Alabama into Georgia and causing 25 deaths, yet there clearly wasn’t word about that tornado occurring. The radar near Rainsville was down, causing inaccurate data, and was overshadowed by the Birmingham tornado.

3:01:15 I wonder how many calls James Spann got from principals that day? I would imagine not a lot because they knew they would get chewed out by the Master. Spann and Gary England in OKC are weather gods (small g).

2:34:42. The Dead Man has just walked into Tuscaloosa. I remember watching this stream live and at that point when Jason said Multiple Vortex Tornado. First thing that came to my mind was Jarrell.
