I took the effort to replace the A frame axle ball joint from the bracket. Spare yourself an afternoon and a mangled up vice! Just buy the complete package: ball joint pressed in the bracket and replaced as a unit. For me it really wasn't worth the effort in relation to the savings

I think I will do the same, just change the lot for the sake of the hassle.

To remove the A arm upper bushes (and others) you can also drill like 12 holes all the way around, just through the rubber. Then you push out the inner steel sleeve and saw a slit in the outer sleeve.
@MicallefMade11 күн бұрын
I never thought of drilling them out, a little safer than fire

Hi Benjamin, Did literally the same restoration repair a couple of weeks ago myself. This was my recipe: new brackets. Patch up the outrigger. The latter was easily doable. The outrigger isn't really that complicated to partially refabricate yourself.

I have an old 110 purchased from a farm. Some farmers tend to be very hard on them and don’t look after them. I guess the are just machinery though. Good luck with it.

Thank you, and good luck with yours. My father in law did no general maintenance. He only worked on it to get through its MOT. Otherwise, it was heavily abused.

Loving this build more and more ! Original chassis, original dash ! My last project car was a VW New Beetle that I did concours with and I am so over pristine bodywork ! The odd little knock or dent just adds character. You don't need 20" wheels and mile deep paintwork to have fun. I have far more fun driving my old Landie than I ever did in my sump scraping, garage queen VW ! Love that new crossmember too !

Thank you. It will never end up like that, firstly because I could never afford it but secondly and most importantly, because I believe that preserving history and stories is better than changing it all and replacing everything that has a story. Whether it's a dent where the cattle used to scratch their heads on the wing corners, or where my father in law caught a gate post

@MicallefMade11 ай бұрын
I have a highly modified Range Rover Classic already so this is going to be a standard (ish) basic 110. I will be keeping her character of a farm workhorse, leaving dent's in the panels but fixing or replacing broken and rotten parts. It was my father in laws farm truck for 20 years, so it has sentimental value as well. I want to see her back on the farm with the cattle at some point.

I'm rather hoping you only do what's absolutely necessary to make this Landy usable.
@MicallefMade11 ай бұрын
On the whole, yes. You may have noticed the front wings were badly damaged, too much for new light surrounds. I hammered them out to accommodate new lights and surrounds, but the dents stay otherwise. It has been my father inlaws farm truck for 20 odd years, so when the cattle use a pannel to have an itch and dent it, it adds to the story (or he hits a fence). I want to be able to use it as a daily driver, so it does need to be somewhat smartened up.

There is an arm that rocks back and forth on a cam, so I used a push to make switch mounted behind the arm so when it goes back it pushes the switch.
