SAFEFILL UNCERTAINTY: I'm going to pass on the Safefill LPG route. Great idea, but when you enter into something where there is a reasonably high initial investment, you need to be certain that it will not be short lived. DUE DILIGENCE: What I’ve learnt so far... Fill up points are few and far between, our closest Morrisons Ipswich a 50 mile round trip. Best to call ahead nice lady in Morrisons filling station can tell you how much LPG they have in the tank. HOWEVER... Ask if Morrisons will be continuing to supply self fill LPG the answer is... Who knows? Not very reassuring! But the clincher for me was the impossibility of trying to find someone at Safefill HQ to talk to. Also Email sent with no reply as yet. Looks like Safefill as a company is fast becoming an endangered species. So I’m out as I’ve decided that I don’t want to own this problem. Back to 4 x 6kg lpg bottles on board. Based on our Irish road trip and just as a side note beware the ROI (Southern Ireland) Their LPG bottles are threaded externally, unlike ours internally.

Just had a local garage with calor bottles in a cage refusing to sell my wife a replacement bottle for a 6kg bottle. We got it swapped elsewhere. Obviously something going on.

There is still a significant shortage of LPG, and cylinders. Its basically a hangover from Calor getting behind over Covid and they have never caught up properly. At this time we still cant issue new cylinder contracts.

Every cylinder is refillable...

Exchange type cylinders don’t have the internal safety systems and should only be refilled at a controlled facility.

The most obvious option is to change to Flogas, which you don't mention. Similars size bottles and Flogas is also cheaper than Calor.

Flogas doesnt have the comprehensive agent network that Calor has. Refillable will always be the cheapest option in the long run as long run.

@@BeaulyHolidayPark I looked into the refillable option long ago, you need to be using a lot more gas per year than I do to make it worthwhile - I reckoned that it would take years for me just to break even. I get my Flogas from a BOC outlet and there is a map of Flogas distributors on their website.

Yes, but it is best to e-mail ahead and make an appointment :)

@@BeaulyHolidayPark Thanks because I was thinking, if the tank had to be left and picked up later, you'd need two tanks. That could get very expensive at £169 each.

@@BedsitBob Thats one of the big advantages of the refillable systems, you can refill on the spot and if you just need a half fill before a trip thats no problem rather than swapping out a half full exchange cylinder.

Great news! Here on Rousay we see cattie-faces (short-eared owls) very often from early dusk on. They're ground nesting - just as well as there's little in the easy of trees here!
