Drain the tank, clean the inside wall and put another coat of paint on there.

The cool, damp climate of the UK is actually kind to vehicle tyres. It's hot, dry and sunny climates which take their toll. I worked in the UAE for a few years and over there, I would say the tyres on my car felt unsafe at just 2 years old.

Could spray it down with carb cleaner and dust it with chalk powder or nick the wife's scented talcum powder and watch where the oil starts coming from.

Have you ever tried shining a UV torch around your bike paul? I've found one very helpful in finding leaks that aren't that easy to see with the naked eye You can follow the trail It doesn't have to be pitch black to show up either

I like the way you keep going back for a recap Paul, keep checking every avenue and eliminate any possible culprits before making the final decision 👍

Good thinking, would it be possible to test your theory by draining the oil tank?

Curiosity dictates that we have to take the primary drive off and find out whether your supposition is correct! Although, if it was mine, I’d live with the leak and monitor to make sure it doesn’t get worse…..

Over here in Canada bank erosion is detrimental to water quality in the spawning beds. . Looks like they took care of that with those big quarried limestone blocks. Adding them to the river would help aeration of the water, good for the fish. We have both Atlantic and Pacific salmon and rainbow and brown trout in rivers like this that feed into the Great Lakes. Our salmon don’t migrate upstream from the ocean though, they live in the Lakes and spawn in the rivers. They must have adapted to fresh water since being introduced many years ago. Don in Niagara

As an ex Royal Enfield 1953 Meteor Owner I can thoroughly recommend Wellseal now made by Stag. Good for ALL leaky English motorbikes. For the crankcase breather I also made some brass discs that acted as "clack" valves and that seemed to reduce oil leaks. Watch out for the twin 6" front brakes. Great stopping power at low speed but doing an involuntary stop at high speed with the girl friend on the back the drums expanded off the shoes, brake lever came up hard on the handle bars and only way to stop the thing was the rear brake. Studs going through engine plates to hold the engine and gearbox assy. need to be a snug fit and you will see fretting corrosion on the aluminium engine and gearbox mounting faces due to flex of the open loop frame. Copper asbestos head gaskets on the Meteor distort towards the centre and leak. The later Super Meteors and I believe Constellations and Interceptors used solid copper gaskets to eliminate that problem.

Hi Mr Henshaw; I just rebuilt a T140E engine and the other day took it for a long second spin after that; so went to that meeting and did 450km ALL oil disappeared from the engine. Luckily I stopped the engine in a town then oil light lighted and the gauge needle was in zero I have a Morgo rotary pump that seemed the previous owner dismantled at some point (may be to check for this problem) Bike starts first kick without smoking; idle without smoking but consumed all that oil! My thinking is that at some points on a long trip, the pump return fails intermittently letting the oil in the sump and then the engine just ate it. Buddy riding few meters back from me told me that almost no smoke from exhaust so even more strange.

G'day Paul, in Australia that's called a fish ladder, and at the front of each row of rock's across the river it causes a negative pressure allowing the fish an easyier passage upstream, it will look great when the grass is grown back to the edges, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

They've put a fish chute on the big weir just above Richards garage too the river is definitely slightly lower where it goes through our garden but there's always been small trout around.

On my 350 I've put a 17t front and a 42t bolt on sprocket. Found its works well with my over mods. Slighty lower geared than standard. As was looking for more torque on the hills and in a head wind. But still tops out about 70mph
