And here we are eleven years later. What has changed? The other dynamic of this is that even where schools have facilities, they are underutilized. The curriculum is a joke, with spelling grammar, calculation mistakes being common. No teacher I know make use of the rubbish supplied to them by the department of education. Instead they spend their own money on buying privately written textbooks. The rot inside the education department needs to be rooted out as a starting point. There needs to be a clear focus on maths and science before anything else.

this is incredibly hurtful in a country that allocates 15% of its total budget to basic education and yet children have to walk in such horrid conditions. as the adults in this country we have to account for allowing such things to continue to in our watch. it is shameful that black leadership would allow for this to take place to its own children and any other child. total disgrace

Thanks for this nice video. It gives clear info "why social auditing is so important". I'm a big supporter of Social Auditing. It's something that is not done properly still, even by the big companies. We used a template from a website, that worked out well. It also has screenshots with explanation how people can arrange their own SA8000 Social Audit: www.allbusinesstemplates.com/template/2WWUB/social-audit-china-social-accountability-8000-template/

Glad they got new toilets? But what the heck? Being taught from childhood how to strike For something they fucked up themselves? Cigarettes, broken doors, graffiti. And they're proud because they got government to fix it again? Youth are dumb. They would've gotten a thumbs up if they figured out how to fix it themselves. That's a proper campaign. Typical South African nature to demand things in the streets

What an amazing video! Truly inspiring and eye opening. We also believe in that simple statement that "everyone has the right to education". This is why we feel FET colleges are so important in South Africa as well - especially for those who do not have Matric, who can still get training or even Matric equivalent qualifications. But still, the school system needs to be able to support the children of our country, rather than fail them.

The disgusting thing is that education gets more money than anything else in South Africa. R232.5 billion is budgeted for education in 2013, of which R23 Billion is set aside for school infrastructure. Do these schools look like the beneficiaries of those Billions of Rands? As a taxpayer, I've contributed to those Billions, I'd like to see them spent where it's meant to be spent.

Many of our school's , especially within the rural areas require immediate attention, as the infrastructure within the school is not adequate, and the learners safety and level of education is jeapordised, it is now that those of higher authority take a stand and bring out the faults of the department so that proper measures can be putin place to make sure that every learner recieves an education!!

Keep up the good work Equal Education. We cannot do without you or many schools and children will suffer without proper education. It is so important for schools to have the necessities of life and to have libraries and communication systems in place. It seems that ministers are too busy feathering their own nests and ensuring their children have the best while forgetting those who need them the most.

Because of low education standards there is cheap labor and there are those (almost everyone) who take advantage of this for economical gain. Those who gain are the educated. If the mental awareness begins to reach an equilibrium and there is a level thought plain that all South Africans are on, maybe then we can become a safe country. We must not forget; the government is small and the people are millions, they should be afraid of us!!

There has been many government projects that give people things for free, mostly these things go to waste. The many farms given to previously disadvantaged people, that lay barren and no longer produce food and revenue are a prime example. You can't just throw money at a problem, and that is what you are asking. This problem is much more complex than it is made out to be here, and some statements are a bit misleading. The point is that the problem must be solved by addressing the cause.

I commend your vision, and yes improving school infrastructure is the start. The teacher/educator in these dreamed of infrastructures is however the major key to unlocking equal education, to quote Professor Jonathan D. Jansen "more teachers opt out of education even though their bodies - for reason of money only - remain in the classroom".herein lies the major challenge.
