what is your favorite lock house on the trail? i like taking pictures and when i go, i will stop at every one of them, but just asking? thanks
@an_over-the-hill_mountainbiker23 сағат бұрын
Wow, that is a great question. Although I always enjoy looking at the lock houses and locks, I've never given that any discerning thought, so it is hard to choose just one. Some have been rebuilt and some have only the foundation remaining. There are some that I view with the influence of the surrounding scenery and others that draw my focus because of their disrepair. I am fond of the house at Potomac Forks (mile 164.8), named for the nearby confluence of the North and South Branches of the Potomac River. Of course, there I'm swayed by the adjacent structures and trees. I know that with a photographer's eye, you might find a particular angle for your photos that I have never taken time to view. I think your plan to document the lock houses with photos is a great idea and I hope you publish your work. I know that many trail users will be interested in seeing it.

Yes, that's my favorite section of the towpath. A lot of people don't like the trail between the tunnel and Little Orleans but it really is pretty nice if you have a little bit of front suspension.

Yes, and I'm going back to Florida for some more in a couple months. Biking is a "Fountain of Youth". Just a little more than ten years ago my doctor told me that I'd better start exercising or I wouldn't be around much longer. I was in terrible shape. It's amazing what a little less beer and a lot more activity can do for a former couch potato. 😀

You can get on the trail at the parking area in the town of Little Orleans, Maryland. You go east less than a mile to the ramp at 2:27.
