I am about to buy a Ricoh GR IIIx in a couple weeks. I heard about them at the start of this year, and I recently started looking into getting one as an EDC street photography camera seperate from my Sony APS-C setup. There are 2 things worry me.. the lack of weather sealing, and the dust issue. I don't care that much about the poor battery life or subpar auto focus, they won't affect me that much once I get used to the camera. The dust issue seems like a 50/50 split, 50% say that it is a non-issue and is overblown, and the other 50% refuse to buy a Ricoh specifically due to the issue. The lack of weather sealing is less important to me, but I feel like those times where I see a great street scene in the rain will leave me frustrated. If they released a GR IV and GR IVx with weather sealing and 100% mitigated dust issue it would be an instant buy.. It has been almost 6 years since the Ricoh GR III first released, so part of me is saying I should just wait, but considering the fact that there were recently rumours of GR IV models releasing in Q1 2025 that were debunked, I think I'll just buy now. I think the images I'll get from a GR IIIx between now and the hypothetical release of a GR IVx are worth more to me.

I saved up money for a few months to buy a ZP, but it got scratched on the third day. I cried so much, and then my boyfriend bought me a bag from kislux for me to carry alternately. Anyway, there are so many bags on the street, so as long as others can't see it, I think it's fine. The thought is there.

Could one focus it to 5m using the focus shift / peaking and zoom in functions (say with a tape measure) and mark this on the dof of the lens? It seems the short throw is the bigger issue

Great job, on the thorough analysis of the Voigtländer Ultron 35mm F2 lens ! Your insights into the lenss features and its compatibility with both Leica and Fuji cameras were really helpful to me. I especially found your explanation, about the focus tab and how it enhances handling informative. The personal photos you included at the end did a job of showcasing the lenss capabilities.

Thanks for your perspective on the Df. I am a retired photographer and love the Df because it harkens back to the same cameras I began my career with and were designed by Tetsuro Goto, whose swansong in camera design this unit represents. The big mistake is to compare it to contemporary cameras - to me, that's not the point. It is an homage to those cameras, and not intended to be a 'hipster' camera or a replacement for a modern camera. I still shoot Ca non, Fuji, Nikon, Olympus and Sony and they are all great tools, and technically superior, but that's not the point of the Df: when I want to savor the experience and enjoy the process of taking an image in its own right, I reach for the Df. It's not about the tech, it's about the experience... The camera is a reflection of a strong thread within Japanese culture called Wabi-Sabi - which embraces imperfection, accepts that things age and seeks to work within those constraints. So, the so-called failures of the camera are a harkening back to both the era and Japanese culture - something not a lot of digital natives will be familiar with. I have never had an issue with focusing, but I use single point centre focus, with the AF-ON button assigned to BBF and the EF-L assigned to Exposure lock. So, I set the exposure, then place the centre on the point of focus, lock it, compose and shoot. It takes far longer to explain that to execute!

Thank you for the video. I always found my GRI (and the GRII is the same) a better size than the GRIII to be honest. It is slightly bigger but that makes all the difference. The ISO control is in the perfect place. The GRIII is a bit annoying to use in full manual mode and miniaturisation to the nth degree gives me cramp in my hand. I’m afraid I disagree with you regarding the viewfinder. The pop-up one on my Sony RX1R2 is super useful in bright light. An external viewfinder (I had on a previous RX1 model) was funky at first and a bit of faff after a while.

Why don't you address that the Fuji is weather sealed but the Ricoh GR series are horrible for getting dust on the sensor. You can't clean the sensor without sending it back to Ricoh and the cost is crazy. (Yes my spouse has a GR with horrible sensor dust) Lots of complaints about the GRs due to dust but reviewers in their glowing discussion of the GR rarely mention it.

Hi Brodie! Would you suggest to sell my Leica M262 and buy a Nikon ZF? Since you've used both camera, what's the pros and cons? And what would you suggest?
@SamuelStreetlife7 күн бұрын
@@KioPadilla oh that comes down to your workflow preferences! One is a rangefinder and the other a mirror less with an EVF. A reason to keep the M is if you really value the rangefinder shooting experience. If you don't mind using an electronic viewfinder then I think the ZF is better in many ways. Better image quality, more responsive, more versatile, more lens options. But the M262 feels better built, has very good battery life and is a little bit more compact. I loved the M262 but I became frustrated with the technical limitations. And the lack of ibis or the not so good low light capabilities. Try a ZF before you make a decision. It could feel very weird and wrong in your hands who knows. Always better to try a camera before buying. Hope that helps!

@SamuelStreetlife Thank you very much for your reply! Been thinking about this decision for a while now. How's the lowlight capability of the Zf?

Hello Samuel. I bought and still own a X-100F. Having shot with Hasselblad , Art Panoramy WA, 5" X 4" and Nikon since 1976, the X100F is the first camera that has let me down so many times! The lens is just SOFT. sometimes there is a delay in shutter firing! The focus is hit and miss. Like you said, take plenty of subject shots, .... perhaps you will get lucky. I really wanted to like this camera, if it did what Fuji Film claimed, I would have it on me all the time. Like lots of others, mine has been back to Fuji service twice! Either Fuji don't actually have a service department, .. or it's just not fixable! I'm not surprised you found the lens soft. I wonder what it's Line Pairs resolution is? It certainly won't be good! Fuji have certainly created a cult following, Held back delivery, ..... Bit of a con I think? I had in my plans to purchase had it been a major improvement. It certainly needs it. I would have though that a very good lens to resolve the 40mp images,... Nope! .. Same junk! Reliable focus? ... Nope! still hit and miss. Old battery technology? I guess with all the fan boys and girls singing high praise, .. Fuji can continue to just grab parts from the old parts bin and jack the price way up! Your video resparked interest in my X100F, I got it out of the box, and just went for a we walk. Mmmm Only about 30% came near to resembeling focus! Back in the box. I guess I get anoyed by What It Could Have Been .... and isn't! In closing, thank you Samuel for your good and honest presentation. Australia.

Thank you for this video. I enjoyed it very much. I spent most of 1986 living in Copenhagen. My first daughter was born there. I especially liked those affectionate moments between you and your Zƒ. I am drawn to this camera, but not quite sure yet. I also have the Voigtländer 40mm ƒ1.2. Leica M version, which I use on my Fujifilm cameras (X-T5 and GFX100S). I like this lens very much, indeed. I still come to Ålborg often, to visit friends there.
