All I can say is thank you. Thank you thank you. This has to be my favorite score and album. John Williams is incredible. Some amazing work but this movie alone always touched me as a kid born in the 80s but as adult I learned to appreciate this amazing music. The music is like a journey. Amazing. Brings a tear to my eyes. Especially the last scene.

Enthralling, thanks for sharing. I remember phoning H & W in the late '90's to ask if I could come up for a look and they said don't, we're a working shipyard. How things have changed.

@CentraloTagoKiwi yes, this was 96. I had to just sign a wavier and couple of forms for safety. Had a week to spend there. The working side is the Musgrave area, south of Queens Rd. All my side was derelict. I found drydock procedures dated 1934.

Its amazing to see what the site looked like then all derelict on how the site looks now. To see all those iconic buildings in your video & now they have all gone, all demolished to make way for the Titanic Quarter. I was there August 2023 & I was stunned when I saw the Titanic Quarter for the first time & looked at Samson & Goliath, as we drove past in our taxi to the hotel. Ive only watched upto the Hamilton Dry Dock where Nomadic now sits (5 mins onwards) Thankyou sir for sharing this video, ive been searching for old site photos & videos. Cant wait to watch the rest of this video.

I agree, she looks the best in white, but the dirt on her hull would be very noticeable if it was like that her whole career (just take a look at Britannic as a hospital ship or Mauretania late in her career as a cruise ship, they both had white hulls & very noticeable dirt which kind of took away from the beauty of the color)

The olympic was the first of the three large and luxurious ocean liners that white star built that they hoped would give the company an advantage in their competition with cunard. The titanic was slightly bigger and more luxurious then the olympic. Then after the titanic the Britannic was larger then the titanic. significantly, thanks to the improvements that was needed when the titanic sank. Unfortunately only the olympic had a full life.

Do appreciate the budget and work required to maintain even a small vessel as a museum exhibit? When she and Mauretania were retired there had been an economic crash involving loss of monetary value. Scrapping the ships was a way of keeping a town fed and solvent.

Amazing to think of the lengths this great shipyard went to, in its heyday, even to compete with the other major ship builders, The local Lough had to be deepened, to accommodate the soon to be built Leviathans, The huge gantry and the bigger lifting cranes to be installed, least of all the huge engines to power these huge liners. and of course the forward thinking Mr Pirie, Mr Andrews, the designer, and then the many thousands of workers, who had to sweat, and labour in the most basic health and safety conditions. When this huge undertaking was underway, it must have seemed impossible to quite a number of those involved, the whole project had never been done before, everything was bigger, and unproven, But this shipyard did it. and its now legendary across the world.

So you must be like really old then because he died in 1895. Also, sorry to rain on your parade but it wasnt cheap steel, it was best for its time and considering her sister Olympic, built several months before Titanic was made of the same stuff, survived four sub attacks, sailed the same seas, clocked up a hell of a lot more mileage and is the only merchant ship to sink a sub by ramming, i'd say I'd be pretty happy with that steel!

Point is the iceberg with 60ft above the water shows by mathematical definition how much more is below thus showing it would be far heavier than any ship, and ships being hollow, and ice being solid, no ship that size could of survived. Only the bulkhead height let her down, as Olympic was holed with two compartments flooded and she survived.

Titanic in 1911 did not have a joint in the hull plates but the Olympic did in 1911. The wreck clearly shows a Joint in the Hull Plates just like Olympic did. Photographs of the "Olympic" taken in December 1912 clearly show that are no hull Plates just like the Original Titanic in 1911. The Hull Plates are a huge giveaway that there was indeed a switch and there is no explanation for it except a Switch. The "genius" below in the comments couldn't even come up with a reason, nor did he even acknowledge it
@050572robert

It was verified as a hoax, the only time that scam came about was in a documentary which later admitted it was false. M and P do not appear on the Titanic wreck.....all those that believe that it is Olympic down there are sadly lacking greater knowledge on the matter. All Olympics fittings were scrapped at the end of her career, burnt into the backs of all panels and furnishings is yard number 400 which was Olympics number. 401 was Titanic's and it can clearly be seen engraved on the propeller on the wreck. Also they werent identical at all, forward A deck prom was enclosed on Titanic and is seen on the wreck as is her porthole arrangement along the forecastle deck which differed from Olympic. Titanic benefitted from alterations learnt from Olympic......there were many differences im only mentioning a few, so you better go do some research unless you want to be misled and not expand your mind.
@050572robert
@050572robert Жыл бұрын
Also just to add....the image you are referring to of the wreck showing the letters M and P is well known to be a photoshopped image, simply because it sows the letters clearly recessed into the hull, whereas Olympic class ships had their letters painted on with chiselled outlines of each letter 18" high into the hull....there was no "nameplate" rivetted onto the hull.

In the 1991 Imax film, the Starboard Propeller blade is show closeup. Just visible in the centre of the blade are what appear to be the numerals 01, which have been taken to be a partially obliterated 401 which is Titanic's build number, but there is no sign of the missing 4. In reality the 01, which appears on the blade can be nothing more than marine growth or corrosion. The propellers on these ships did not have the vessel's build number incised, stamped or cast into their thrust faces. In photos taken at the time of Olympics Propellor replacement following the 20th Sept 1911 HMS Hawke Incident, the blades are clearly marked S1, S2 and S3. However, these markings, which seem to be cast into the Blades, appear close to where they are attached in the hull, not In the centre of the thrust face. Photos of Olympic's propellers, taken whilst under construction, plainly show the number 400 stencilled on the reverse side of the blades. Obviously these parts were marked only for construction purposes as the numbers shown in Olympic's Pictures would have been erased almost immediately the Propellers began to revolve under water. Had the number 01 actually been all that remained of 401, cut into the blade, then we would have solid evidence that Olympic is resting on the bottom of the Atlantic and not Titanic. According to Harland and Wolff themselves, Olympic's Starboard Propeller was exchanged for Titanic's following the Hawke collision. A spare was fitted to Titanic and unquestionably spares could not be given a specific ship's build number as they might be required by any of the class some anomalies have appeared in thousands of still photographs and hours of video film from the wreck. What seems to be white paint shows in various places on the hull where the top coat of Black has been flaked or scraped away. Titanic's hull was never painted white, but Olympic's was. This was to allow photographers to get clearer shots of her when she launched. There appears to be red lead paint around the bases of brass or bronze instruments where they are bolted to the steel of the deck. While this was a sensible precaution against any electrolytic reaction between the ferrous and non ferrous metals, it has long been believed that red lead was only used on Olympic, while white lead served the same purpose as her sister. There is also an unexpected longitudinal bulkhead that Robert Ballard found. There should be no such bulkheads on this type of vessel. Those photos of the Hull are not photoshopped but indeed the originals, pre Internet books on the Titanic also prove that too. Nice try 👍 🤫😏

@@Glitch_sa_Mhaitris Of course you will find white looking paint down there, Titanic as well as all ships had varied undercoats applied before final black. Olympic can be seen arriving in new york just after one crossing of her maiden voyage with the black washed off her bows revealing undercoat.
