Listened to the version for piano orchestra earlier; felt quite interesting to compared the two settings reflecting two different mindsets

Zu eintönig komponiert! Das könnte auch ein Stück aus dem Mittelalt sein.

The cello can express so much emotion and Leo Smitt brings out so much of the Cello's emotion. A wonderful concertino. A real original.

Simply Great. Like all Leo Smitt music its great and beautiful and so well crafted. The man was a gift to music that the Nazis took away from the world.

Such beautiful writing and playing. I hope more people play Henriëtte Bosmans' music. She is a fantastic composer.

‘By far the most substantial piece of the evening was ''Expulsion'' by the Dutch composer Theo Verbey. Like many other composers from the Netherlands, Mr. Verbey obviously appreciates the pulse and clarity of Stravinsky, in combination with the ruder dynamism of popular music as mediated by, again, American minimalists. But his music is unusually intricate and poetic. ''Expulsion,'' for an ensemble of 24 players, is based, according to the composer, on an oscillation of two chords, but these provide just a haze over continuous contrapuntal interplay. One has the sense of numerous instrumental voices talking to one another, of music talking to itself, just being there. Not demanding attention, almost resisting it, the piece hooks one in. The Absolute's performance could have been more carefully modulated, but its liveliness was persuasive, and one was left wanting to hear more of this composer.’ Source: Paul Griffiths 1999 New York Times review of a performance of “Expulsion” in New York.

Andriessen's music varies in character from piece to piece. So it is inaccurate to say that this work is typical of his outout.

Had a chance to hear this live by this same group back in like 2005. Absolutely transfixing. According to Quink, this is meant to illustrate a dinner party that goes sideways and everyone is arguing.

You know I have a greater appreciation for his music than ever before. Once you start to listen in to the parts in the background, and the contrast of parts being played strikingly and soft at the same time, sounding electronic at times. He was ahead of his time.

What fantastic music. It sounds aesthetically pleasing, very colourful and also rests within itself. The individual movements are as if cast from a single mould. The formal design of the individual movements is of great beauty. I really enjoyed listening to it. Thank you very much for the beautiful music.
