What George Lynch leaves out about finger tapping is that a tapped note (with your picking hand) is essentially the same thing as a hammer on and a pull off. This means that whatever key and scale your playing in (for example, the key of E Phrygian) both the fretted note and the tapped note have to be in the same key and scale. Four example, let’s say you fret the note of E you might go up the fret board to a fourth or a fifth where you find another note in the scale your playing in and tap and pull off there. Tom Sisson
