If that "insulator pad" is actually an insulator pad, what about the screws that directly connects the transistor grounds to the heatsink?

Try a factory reset (google how to do it for your model) and or firmware update. Make sure all the speakers are active in your settings. Does it work on pure direct? If all else checks out, it could be a bad DSP chip, replaceable, but may not be worth it. This video gives the DSP test procedure. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqjRhmqwoNuhZqc

Hi Tom, I have Yamaha RX-V485. I am facing a issue where Receiver doesn't connect to the router in the 'wired' mode. It does connect in the 'wireless' mode perfectly - no issues here. I have checked for the faulty cable and the router ports. Both seem OK as other devices when connected there work Okay. Any suggestion what could be the issue? Thank you.
@AudioTomReviews4 ай бұрын
Did you change it to "wired" in the settings menu?Selects the network connection method. Setup menu “Network” > “Network Connection” Choices Wired Select this option when you want to connect the unit to a network with a commercially-available network cable. Wireless(Wi-Fi) Select this option when you want to connect the unit to a network via the wireless router (access point). NOTE For details on the network connection, see the following: ▪ “Preparing for connecting to a network” (p.29) There are several other network settings possibilities I won't get into, but you may need to manually set an IP address as it may be trying to use one that is already in use by another unit on your network.
@vijaykumarsharma22934 ай бұрын
@@AudioTomReviews Thank you, Tom, for your response. I tried setting up the IP address manually by choosing the wired connection option and turning off DHCP. I provided a new static IP address while keeping the same subnet mask, default gateway, and primary DNS address as shown in the wireless settings. However, the wired connection still doesn't work. The new IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and primary DNS all show as (0.0.0.0) in the information window under the wired connection. Do you have any other suggestions I could try, or is it fair to assume that the network card might be the issue?

Great job so far, and I look forward to part 2. Greetings from Germany 🖐️

Listening from KZbin, I don't notice an "improvement" compared to the original... The upgrade took away the bass. The treble improved logically due to the change of tweeter. The mid frequencies do sound clearer. It sounds different, but for me not necessarily better... But the important thing is that you like it!! That was the goal. Beyond tastes, very good video, very neat work and explanation!!
@AudioTomReviews6 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's really hard to capture the difference with the current equipment I have. I need to get a mixer and 2 good mic's, hard to justify right now. The bass is what really wasn't captured the way it needed to be (and the recording is in mono). The "before" bass was more prominent, but extremely low quality. Boomy, boxy hollow sound, not good. After was articulate, clean and well defined, but that made it seem like there was less. I kept the eq the same for comparison, but they would handle a bass boost much better afterwards. I am slowly upgrading my equipment warchest and hope to bring better samples in the future. Thanks for the post!

USB to TRRS adapter with an extension TRRS to TRRS cable makes it far easier. Also, having your test files on a USB stick plugged into the car makes it much easier, too. I used pink noise and some Michael Jackson files and sat in the back seat making adjustments on my DSP. Also.. don't sweat minor noises.. listening environment is never perfect. I just do it a couple times in different sessions and then give a final listen or two by ear.

If you have the typical $200-350 turntable, who cares! If you have a$1000 - whatever, then you need an acrylic platter. My $1300 Thorens has a metal platter that is nicely balanced, but with my line contact cartridge the rubber mat versus a good acrylic (without the problems stated) has a more isolated sound, indicating it isn't picking up vibrations externally. You should add the quality of the turntable, and the type of cartridges used makes a difference. The quieter the electronics used, the more the turntable benefits. We've done a blindfold test with the same records, and all my friends can tell when the acrylic mat is used. On my Rega with heavier acrylic platter (private English made), the difference is more pronounced with a richer midrange and less noticeable distortion. This stuff isn't cheap, so determine the quality of the system and turntable before buying a high quality acrylic platter (turned, not molded), and so perfect you can't see the rotations. Sensitivity of speakers, especially with ribbon tweeters, also makes a difference. You should always remember it's the total system that gives the quality of the sound.
@AudioTomReviews7 ай бұрын
Ideally an acrylic mat should be made model specific to a given TT, and there are some out there. There are so many variables with different TT's that it is hit or miss for the consumer, and that is probably why we see so many different review from good to bad.
@josebaaz74617 ай бұрын
I got free pair of Sony ss u601av 3 way towers and decided to make some improvements as well. I braced the inside and changed the tweeter with an infinity tweeter pair I had laying around. And changed the mid range . I lined the wood inside with carpet cushion mat and also use poly-fil . I didn’t use to much ploy-fil because the speakers cabinet are ported . Now I have a good looking set of vintage speakers that don’t sound bad . I was dumbstruck when I realized they sounded better than my advents and infinity Rs 4000 . One little experiment I did with the poly-fil since all the drivers are installed 1 1/2 “ on top of each other I tried using different amounts of poly material behind each driver to the ports and it made the bass sound cleaner and not interfere with the mid and highs coming out the speakers. The sound stage improved significantly .

I got a good quality mat (the Acromat by the Funk Firm) for my Rega. Rega does not recommend a weight or record clamp. My 10 y/o Rega was sounding a bit dark, lacking openness and detail in the upper mids. The cartridge was a good one and new) I tried a cork mat but it made the bass more pronounced but did not open up the sound or allow more upper-mid detail. So upon recommendation of another KZbinr, I tried the Acromat. It opened up the sound (vs the wool stock mat) and allowed more upper-mid detail to emerge. What a difference. I was shocked. (I was shocked at the cork mat too. I just didn't like the effect). I think the two other factors that determine the effectiveness of mats are the specific turntable including platter material and the quality of the mat. That's why higher end manufacturers are using Delrin platters. Rega is using ceramic on its high end tts now. A lot of manufacturers use wool mats, even Rega. They are more neutral sounding. Mats making a difference in sound...I would have thought it was ridiculous three years ago.
@AudioTomReviews7 ай бұрын
I would take a wool mat over a poorly coupled acrylic any day.
@mattharwood44137 ай бұрын
@@AudioTomReviews That's probably true. A poorly coupled one is no good. I got a Funk Firm and it is solidly coupled to the platter via thin tack strips.

UMM-6 is really the way to go. The IMM-6 is cheap but has drawbacks. The biggest is all the 3.5mm trs/trrs cables on the market suck. They are noisy and degrade the sound, so I plug directly into the PC. This will get the job done in the basic sense, but I will be upgrading. It does work with REW fine, but in a clumsy way.

@richardelliott83529 ай бұрын
instead of a weight, I prefer a well designed record clamp, because I never wanted extra weight on the platter bearing, and figured a clamp serves the same purpose .. I use the Michell clamp now, but others have worked well in the past, including a five dollar plastic one from the now defunct radio shack . the Michell clamp is made of Delron, a hard material they say has the benefit of closely matching the resonance of a vinyl record, if that matters, and which they also use in their turntable platter, without a mat. When the presenter mentioned the ceramic platter has a sharp edge , that was enough to satisfy my product curiosity, because that edge is not consumer friendly, and will stay that way, like a ceramic knife.
@AudioTomReviews9 ай бұрын
I may look into a clamp. Some turn table motors won't handle the added weight. Clamps were pretty scarce for a while but it looks like more options are available.
