Very thanks for your informatics video, I do have an old tablet year 2012 processor Intle Atom dual-core 1.86 Ghz , I was looking for installing Ubuntu OS on a faster PCI card 64 GB size to be inserted closer to the control bus of that old tablet (GIGABYTE s1080). Your video is unique issue and very helpful project in 2024. I have a questions about the cost $ & speed gain after you completed your project on your new Lenovo 520 and the advantages by 2024?. Is it worth for me to apply your project steps on my tablet? Thanks BR Akmal

No funcionó. Y por ello no hizo la prueba.

Great video! Thanks!!! 👏🏼👍🏼 And I thought I had searched the Net… I realize that, compared with your research, just have managed to scratch a bit… 😂🤣😂🤣 Your video (well explained with a calm voice) sure puts my worries at ease. Puhhhh. I’ve bought the adapter and a 2230 memory with the intention to remove the wifi card and replace it with this ”special solution SSD” as boot drive for Proxmox, Unraid and VM’s for my home lab. Because I really need the 3 nvme’s in the AMD NUC mini pc so I can use RAID5. Yupp, I’m going all in with this one. We’ll see how it all works out once I get the mini pc and the 2230 stuff. Wish me luck, I think I’ll need it! 😳 But, as I said, Kudos to you for this very thought out video. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

@techwise664 ай бұрын
The Kioxia BG5 is a M.2 2230 SSD and use a Kioxia BG5 SSD as an external drive, you will need an M.2 NVMe to PCIe adapter or an M.2 NVMe enclosure
@NicksStuff4 ай бұрын
1. Check your data transfer rate, it won't be mind boggling; 2. some of these ports are CNVi and don't have a PCIe line, the SSD won't work; 3. even if it has a PCIe lane, some manufacturer whitelist the devices that can actually be used there and an SSD won't work. I don't know what the likelihood of it working is but it's not 100%

Dude I found ur channel watching the 1st video "Convert WIFI Slot to M.2 NVMe SSD Slot !" at kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGm7oqCkrtaVsLM and now I'm watching this one trying to figure out how to do my Dell Latitude E6430. You see these 2 videos are focusing on using a WIFI slot as if that were the only option in somebody's laptop, that their laptop doesn't have any mini-PCIe slots for WWAN or add-on NVMe laptop form factor SSD. Mine does, however I have a Silicon Power 4TB UD90 M.2 NVMe SSD,, and a Samsung EVO 980 PRO, both, full finger stick sized, the size that usually goes not in laptops but into desktop motherboards with actual M.2 slots built-in like ASUS etc. I have problems with each of those M.2 SSD's while currently housing them inside USB-enclosure adapters. [ 1 ] Samsung EVO 980 PRO www.amazon.com/s?k=samsung+EVO+980+pro&crid=1IJPEDPLDVUQB&sprefix=samsung+evo+980+pro%2Caps%2C174&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 The Samsung EVO 980 PRO works for awhile when new, but over time, usually a few months, due to a firmware issue, the onboard controller will detect bad sectors even whether they are actually bad or not (and they usually aren't), and that results in the drive controller eventually not allowing data to be written to the drive, by resetting the drive status as READ-ONLY. It gets LOCKED that way. This is a known issue, discussed in more detail here " SAMSUNG 980 PRO NVMe FAILURE AND HOW TO STOP IT FROM HAPPENING " ( Channel : JayzTwoCents - 4.7 MILLION Subscribers ) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqCkd62ar5Wba68 The GOOD NEWS is that Samsung got feedback about this issue, and have issued a firmware update that fixes it (unlock it). More GOOD NEWS is that fortunately firmware updates don't need to actually write to the drive, just access it, and the firmware update is communicated directly to the controller, which is an onboard PCB component separate from the drive itself. The BAD NEWS though is that this can only be done when a Samsung EVO 980 PRO (512 GB) is inserted into an actual M.2 NVMe slot on an actual motherboard (whether desktop or laptop doesn't matter), it can't do firmware updates while in a USB-enclosure, the process doesn't work that way. So that's my first reason I'm exploring watching your videos and learning about this valuable information. I'm not watching just for entertainment ! [ 2 ] Silicon Power 4TB UD90 www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-UD90-NVMe-SP04KGBP44UD9005/dp/B0BYN8NHXS/?th=1 The problem with that one is that it, *_UNLIKE_* the Samsung EVO, does NOT HAVE it's own internal DRAM and Controller. I never even thought about it, and just recently learned that M.2 NVMe's won't work inside USB-enclosures unless they have their own DRAM and Controller (mainly the DRAM). So that's my 2nd reason. I wanna see if I can test that Silicon Power 4 TB UD90 M.2 NVMe and verify it's working when it is hooked up the right way... I went to the link you provide, and I see the unit (it's DIRT CHEAP, thank god ! ) but I ALSO FOUND these..... Mini-PCIe to NVMe adapters .... they look very similar to the ones used in your upgrade but are not limited to WiFi.... www.aliexpress.us/w/wholesale-NVME-Adapter-Card-PCIE-M.2-SSD-to-Mini%2525252dPCIe.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.search.0 My dell latitude e6430 has both :: (1) WiFi Mini-PCIe and also (2), standard mini-PCIe slot. So I'm "on the fence" undecided which path to take. I do have an external USB-WIFI Adapter, a pretty good one, so I could sacrifice the WIFI slot if I had no other option. But I'd prefer not to. I'm sorry to bother you with this long post, but you're the first and ONLY channel I've seen covering this in such detail. If you may please, what you recommend ? - - I'm asking in advance of ordering the adapter, but, I might go ahead and get various ones, of both kinds, since they are so inexpensive. But I'm still interested in your feedback, if any..... Thank You ....... *Liked* and *Subscribed* ........ _HIGHLY INFORMATIVE VIDEO !_
@techwise664 ай бұрын
Hi Dude! Thank you so much for the detailed comment and for subscribing to my channel. I'm so glad you found my video informative and that it sparked your interest in exploring upgrades for your Dell Latitude E6430. You have a unique situation with your two M.2 NVMe SSDs and the challenges you're facing with them in USB enclosures. Samsung EVO 980 PRO (512GB): You're absolutely right about the firmware update issue. It's unfortunate that it requires a direct connection to an M.2 slot, but this is a common limitation with NVMe drives in external enclosures. If possible, consider temporarily installing the drive in an available M.2 slot on a desktop or laptop to perform the firmware update. Once updated, you can move it back to the external enclosure. Silicon Power 4TB UD90: DRAM-less NVMe drives like this one can sometimes have compatibility issues with USB enclosures. Luckily, your laptop has a spare mini-PCIe slot, which offers a great solution! You can use a mini-PCIe to NVMe adapter to connect the UD90 internally. This bypasses the enclosure issue and allows the drive to function correctly. I'm actually planning to create a video demonstrating this process soon, so keep an eye out for that!

@@techwise66 Thank You ! The info is helpful because I keep some older retro PC's around for various daily use & utility/testing purposes in order to preserve higher end in immaculate condition unblemished with flawless performance. The e6430 mentioned is just 1 of 4 I've had. Even older they're dirt cheap yet when got in mint condition, the i7-3840QM CPU runs buttery smooth. I actually use that E6430 more than 2 Dell Precision M4800's which have stronger specs and more ports but they are heavier bulkier devices referred to as mobile workstations rather than laptops. I have multiple PC's and laptops between various personal & work projects. I wasn't going to literally install the Silicon Power 4TB into the Dell Latitude E6430 for permanent use. I don't use a 4TB SSD in an older aging laptop. I like that laptop, I'm on it right now, because it is really peppy and superfast at web browser & avg use but It lacks the specs for 4/6/8K video from Atomos Ninja V baked-in custom LUTS and then editing in DaVinci Resolve with Fusion effects, etc. A 4TB M.2 NVMe SSD has read/write speed to edit & render 4K+ video. An area I AM experienced in. I know what it's like waiting for slow drives.... I mostly wanted to verify I hadn't damaged it or corrupted the Silicon Power 4TB UD90 from USB-enclosure _experimentation._ When I saw your video I was so impressed with the info, I decided to seek ur opinion about my current status and options. I already have a build going inside a Lian Li 011 Dynamic XL case, with ARM4 Threadripper CPU's 5960X 16-core and 11 GB RTX 1080X Super . I'm also starting another new build with a Lian Li 011D EVO XL which is the updated version of the earlier case. I will eventually install the Silicon Power 4 TB UD90 M.2 into one of those two builds, I haven't decided which one yet, and it's too early in the build for me to simply drop it in & test it just out curiosity. I would if I could, but I don't have all the necessary preliminary pieces for that to happen, yet. I will keep an eye out for your future videos about mini-PCIe adapter possibilities. I think that is an underserved audience. Not many videos about it. I dont think many people even bother to think about taking advantage of unused resources. My min-PCIe slot is a spare, for me to future upgrade to an "optional" WWAN. Do you know how many people confuse WWAN with WLAN and don't really even know what a WWAN is....at all ? *So,* that port just sits there...empty...not used. It's just being wasted.. Well *"WE"* know _what...it ...could ..be ...used ..for...._ 😁😁 Bro, ur information is really worth it's weight in gold. I wish somebody like you were in my area. You could set up shop and have a conveyor belt of customers like the pied piper coming in for a $99 upgrade special focused around a $2.80 adapter from Alibaba ! Ha-ha....just joking...but you never know !!!.... Thank you again, and take it easy Bud..... have a good one.. 😎😎😎😎
