The small guy in the advert is played by Christopher Beck. My aunt once worked him on a 6 part TV programme for kids called The Ultimate Machine which aired on CITV in 1987.

I remember it when I was 10 in 1990, my mum wouldn't let me ring 0898 numbers and I used to ring them at my nan and grandad's house secretly! I don't think I understood the jokes, there was one about a clergyman, the Very Reverend somebody (I can't remember his last name). There was also the Ultra Naughty Joke Line that I remember phoning, they had a joke about an Irish priest who kept telling a member of his parish that she'd been "a very naughty girl" and he made her drink neat lemon juice. I had no idea what the punchline was at that age!

An advertisement mostly ignored like the car itself, the Ford Cougar, which time has forcefully revalued both in mechanics and style. Perhaps the most die-hard fans have not digested Dennis Hopper's overtaking of Billy, which sounds a lot like a capitalist overcoming of Easy Rider's wild thinking (and of an entire generation...). Already at the time of the advertisement, certain ideals were largely over, and watching this clip today feels like a classic. Times have changed...

funniest, or maybe saddest part about this is that Walkers(Lays) crisps won the potato crisp rivalry and now Smiths Crisps are known exclusively for Salt & Shake.
