I found Americans to be very materialistic. They seem to place a lot of importance on having the biggest house, the best car, clothes etc etc. I think they're taught that early on too. They're all caught up on being successful and climbing the ladder. It's less like that (generally, there are always exceptions) in every other country I've lived in or visited.

I wonder what would happen to American society if all McDonald, Wendy's Denny's ,Taco Bell, and KFC workers simply didn't show up for work for a whole week? Would some just starve? What about if cleaners, supermarket and gas station workers, teachers, and bus drivers did the same? Maybe their jobs might be seen as more valuable then? McDonalds in Australia pays its workers properly and they are doing really well here! Full-time hours are 38 hours a week. We also get 2 weeks sick leave, 5 weeks annual leave, paid parental leave, mandated superannuation (paid by the employer for ALL workers), long service leave, bereavement leave, and study leave - we have higher rates of happiness, life expectancy, better work life balance, high GDP, high living standards. Americans are being fed so many lies by the people in power, just to maintain the status quo (keep the top 1% getting richer)

As the channel you’re reacting to mentions, for a great part this has to do with zoning. If a town/city is zoned as it is in europe, it becomes far safer for people in general. Also a lot of people ride their bikes and know when driving their car, they need to be careful around cyclists.

Sweden have no military lawenforcement perce but we do have a military police. The MP have no jurisdiction though outside a military compound or advised area. The Swedish Commander in Chief has the last word in everything that regards military jurisdiction. Though; The King is the main representative of the Armed Forces. He is an admiral in the navy and a general in the army and air force. The king is the honorary head of the Life Guard and the Life Regiment's hussars. The king is the grand master of the royal Swedish orders of knights. But is by law supposed to not interfere neither politically or militarily in any issues. But is still the head of state of Sweden, but must “rule” without any political influence nor make any political statements, by law. The Kings duty is to be. Well this post kinda ran away from me. @@BrilliantHandle no, our predecessors did this road design way back in the 50s building communities that were car dependent, it was based on the idea that cars would always be around and they were too good to get around on bicycles. Now we're framed in with freeways and shopping centers. It's terrible here in the usa to just walk or ride for all the fast cars in the way.

@@moosehand8721 Sure, but that American suburban idea has continued to be expanded over the decades. Cars became much larger, highways were greatly expanded, and more and more suburbs are built further and further out. Watch any video on KZbin of a child in a tricycle or whatever being run over (even on a sidewalk). At least half of the comments will not blame the driver and will likely blame the child. Those people are the real predators and danger in the U.S. that are much more likely to hurt children than some stranger-danger in the bushes.

For the Auckland map, those three roads are, left to right, Dominion Road, Mount Eden Road, and Manukau Road. They're not really transit routes, just fairly major roads. 'Major' in this case meaning that the roads are fully marked (many roads down here only mark the centre-line/centre turn lane, and some don't even have that away from intersections), and have more than one lane in each direction, most of the time. Meanwhile, the once streets than lack sidewalks are a mere handful of small and isolated cul-de-sacs.

What a bunch of BS I’ve been working on military bases for seven years now as a civilian contractor I’ve never seen one incident. As a matter of fact, we leave all of our tools out we leave the keys in our ignitions of our equipment. We have never had one single incident on the contrary, all the young people on the basis have pride in themselves and respect for others. This video was made by a bunch of nut bags trying to sound like they’re some kind of legitimate authority all I got to say is baloney

A very important issue, thanks for addressing it, Bryson. In Sweden, some military units (K3 the worst, I guess) got a very bad reputation because some leaders were sexist and authoritarian - which conduct is not allowed in Sweden, but it leaked beyond the silenced reports. But there has to be some very brave individuals who speak up, because otherwise the problems remain under cover. 2017 with the "Me,too" movement there were 1700 women in the military who stood up, to make public that there was huge issues with sexual assaults and harrassment within the military. Their experience was that they were not taken seriously and the leaders were not acting according to the rules. There are recurring campaigns to stop this but the culture is resistent. In January this year there was a report in one of our biggest newspapers and that led to some action - a typical procedure in Sweden, where we need our journalists to get our justice system working as it should. Here an interview with the researcher: sverigesradio.se/artikel/ny-granskning-om-sexuella-trakasserier-inom-forsvarsmakten (a new investigation into sexual harrassment within the military). Same old complaints, though the official policy is very poignant and the highest command is very critical of the sloppiness in handling and preventing harrassment of women in uniform, but the habits of the offenders are persistent. Also the punishments for transgressions are so lenient that they are not really working, though they actually should be reported to "normal" police for prosecution. But by neglect and malpractice they are not properly reported, and then it is up to the individual to become a whistle-blower, which is hard, of course.

Hi Bry. The US is not unique in having the Military Police investigators, investigate alleged crimes committed by military personnel. Usually, if a soldier commits a crime off base but on sovereign soil, the civil police investigate. If it is on base, or on active duty, it is for the military to investigate. I can't speak for every country of course. One feature of US bases overseas, is that usually when the US negotiates for bases in other countries such as the UK, Germany, Japan and more recently Finland, US personnel are not subject to the local law. A soldier could be DUI, mount the sidewalk and mow down a group of people, and there would be nothing that countries police could do, beyond take the soldier into custody, then hand him or her over to the US military police.

That made it look like that it was made half-ass in those areas, to audience who they think know absolutely nothing about issue...that made it afterall look rathet cheap... "Based on their language, the Finns are often associated with the Uralic peoples, but it is important to distinguish between linguistic and ethnic concepts." "The Finnish language belongs to the Finno-Ugric branch of the Uralic language family. This linguistic group covers several languages spoken by peoples from Russia, Hungary and Northern Europe" "Ethnically, however, Finns are not unequivocally "Uralians". Finns, like most European nations, are genetically a mixture of different populations that have settled in Finland over the centuries and millennia. This makes the ethnic background of Finns complex and multi-layered"

One example of something i had done: Since i was born, it was discovered that i wouldn't get 4 of my permanent teeth for some reason, meaning i would be stuck with teeth not meant for an adult. One thing that ISN'T covered in danish healthcare, is normal, non-injury dental work, but since mine was technically a handicap, i was entitled to have any work done through normal health channels. Nothing needed doing for many years, but when i was 25, two of the teeth impacted gave me trouble, so i decided to have it done on those two. I would need a tooth pulled each time, as they would only do one at a time, and then have a titanium screw drilled into my jaw, and then have a fake tooth made. One tooth of this type would all included cost around 25,000DKK, or around 3,600USD, meaning that when i'm done with all four at some point, it would have cost me around 100,000DKK, or 14,400USD! But thanks to the healthcare system we have, a defect i have no control over, didn't end up costing me anything and, it never will! Because these implants aren't meant to last forever, with the actual tooth part needing to be replaced once in a while, but even this upkeep charge won't cost me anything, and i can just walk into any dentist office whe i feel like it, and have it replaced at no charge, as long as they agree the implant needs it...

Nothing negative on Norway, but it's so different from everywhere else it's impossible to compare. It's only 3% the size of the United States, and has a population of 5 million, which is 1/8th the size of California! The U.S. has 1,000 times more roadway miles than Norway, and distances are long. Norway is almost entirely powered by Hydroelectric, whereas the U.S. burns A LOT of Petroleum (and Coal) to make electricity. Going EV in the U.S. is more of a Pain than a Utopia ... unless you're lucky enough to have a home with electricity in the garage and live close to work, which is something not even 1/3rd of the population enjoys. Something else. Where I live here in Southern California, electricity is 55 cents per kilowatt hour. Cost to fully charge an 80kW electric vehicle at home, for me, would be about $55 with tax.

The biggest problem with Americans is the word "socialism". Americans mainly don't know the difference between "Comunism", "Socialism", "Democratic socialism" and "Social democracy", calling all of them "socialism" and spitting on them without even looking at them. There isn't a single country in Europe that can be called "socialist" (sadly) We can say that in Europe we have primarly Social democracies The distance from socialism, democratic socialism and social democracies is mainly a matter of "big industries owning". Pure socialism is about the government that directly owns industries and all the profit is shared by workers. Democratic socialism still belives that main industries should be owned by the people, but most in form of workers partecipation to ownership, like workers unions that owns part of the industries. Social democracy belives in strong regulation that prevent big companies to exploite workers: minimum wage, 20+ paid vacation days, 20+ weeks of paid parental leave, unlimited sick days, job support, unemployed support, housing support, health care... the so called "welfare" and "work-life balance" For a left winger it usually works like this: if a law is good for workers, it's USUALLY good, if it's good for owners, it's usually bad. The main reason is that workers are much much more than owners (like 1000 or 10.000 more), thus laws should usually go in that direction for the good of the majority. 30 paid vacation days are good for the worker, not good (in short term) for the owner. What some right wingers don't undersand (in my opinion) is that a country where everyone is happier and wealthier, people travel and spend and on the long term this benefit the owners too. It's better to be very rich in an happy country than being obscene rich in country full of homelessness, desperation, broke people. All industrialized nations on the planet except US figured it out that you can give workers all these rights mentioned before and still have profit. A cashier in US McD earn less than 10$/hour and has 10 days of paid vacation and only starting from the second year A cashier in a McD in Denmark earn 22$/hour and has 30 days of 100% paid vacation and 52 weeks of 100% paid parental leave immediately, not after 1 year of working there As you see McDonalds can make a lot of profit in Denmark and still gives workers fair wages and high level benefits.
