We celebrate guy Fawkes in NZ, at least we did when I was little. It's my mother's birthday on that day. I live in Australia now and it isn't celebrated here. I remember my dad filling my brothers girl Joe tank with sand and shooting rockets from it. I also distinctly remember the first time I allowed my own double happy cracker. They were little, red and a small wick. My dad lit it and was supposed to throw it. I didn't let go of it and it blew up in my palm and split all the skin open. It was 1980 so the parents were all too wasted to help and I don't remember it being wrapped or treated. I was just sent next door until I stopped crying

Guy fox day doesn’t exist at all in America. I only know about it from books… but here it was the election 😕 Our fireworks happen on the 4th of July (independence day) and to a lesser extent on New Year’s Eve. Even though I was a ‘90’s child I still experienced some of the amateur fireworks you describe. Different states here have different laws about fireworks and I remember that ours were contraband from a road trip 😅

We celebrated Guy Fawkes Day when we were living in Athens and the kids were going to a British international school. Fun! One of my favorite photos is from that night, of my seven year old daughter lighted by the bonfire and clutching a handful of glittery streamers. Now she's 28! Glad we have Independence Day in the US for our fireworks, usually with Sousa band marches!

Guy Fawkes Night is definitely not something we have in America. In fact, I'm not sure a lot of Americans would even know who Guy Fawkes even was and anything about the 'gunpowder' plot. Personally, I always rewatch the film 'V for Vendetta' on Nov 5th, which is how many of us non-Brits might know of Guy Fawkes (or if you're a history nerd, like me). I skipped it this time around, though, as it was presidential election night here and the fascist-theocracy-horror of the film's plot felt a bit too close to home right now with my election worries (which unfortunately got reinforced with the election result -- which I'm still grieving). ☹
