I’ve known of you for awhile now. Why the switch to Sport Mods from Stock Cars?

When we blew up the stock car engine, I didn’t have enough cash on hand to pay for a new one that was going to be competitive. The sport mod has the crate option which seems to be a little more affordable. Plus my family and most of my support has always been in the modified world, so I have a wealth of knowledge around me that is willing to step in. So I had the SC for sale with my backup engine. It sold and I found this car here turn key for a good price. It really was just a perfect storm. I think this new car is pretty decent. Just need to get some laps in it. And now a new engine… 🤪

I had a chat with the videographer… she wasn’t happy with me in the moment so she didn’t record it. 😅 I also wanted the video of us getting kicked out of the tent. But the camera batteries were dead.

What’s the difference between a sport mod and a modified , we only have modifieds and big block modifieds in Australia

Short version, front suspension is pretty identical, rear suspension sport mods are much more limited. Transmission we have to run “stock” while mods can run a racing transmission like a Bert or a Brinn. Engines, sport mods are on a 602 crate w/ 4bbl gas carb or a 2 bbl gas carb on an “open” engine. Mods can run a 604 on methanol or an open engine, which seems like none do anymore. Sport mods are allowed a 5” spoiler where as mods get a 2”. I think that covered most of the basic stuff. There’s some more finer details, but that’s the bigger stuff.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I did have a bigger engine small carb combo for awhile. It felt like it just had no top end. Might not be true for everyone else, but that is my experience. Also I had more money in the big engine for less results.

@@chrisevenson9454 I never heard of stock cars until 2015. They weren’t really a thing back in Arizona and I didn’t pay attention to the Midwest. Once I visited I fell in love with the class. Now we got in the stock car in 2016 and moved to Iowa in 2020.

They are kinda all over the place depending who you ask. RR’s can range from a 10” 200 to a 13” 275. LRs are just everything from a 10” to a 16” 125-250 Fronts are getting lighter every year it seems. 600-1100 area.

Hello, I have a newbie to dirt question; what do you do to get the steering that fast?

Hey good question, the steering box I’m using is a 6:1 ratio. The brand is Sweet manufacturing. I bought it from speedway motors. Other options if you already have a steering box but want to speed it up, you can get a steering quickener. It’ll be added to your steering shaft either in the middle or even at the steering wheel attachment.

That’s all I’m hoping for at this point. They didn’t look marred up or anything so hopefully new valves, springs, little clean up and they are good to go.

Definitely got a fast enough car. Just by looking at the front runners they definitely were more planted. But there’s always a learning curve. My uncle raced late models and modified an and became a hall of fame driver for a local track. If I definitely had the funds I’d be out there too! Instead I reside to snowmobile racing since it’s what I can afford. But one day I’ll be out there in the dirt. Keep your head up! Definitely liked how you weren’t afraid to try something new and what everyone else wasn’t, it’s a bit a miss on those setups. But long as you learn something from each race that’s what counts

@albertlehman4718 thanks man! It was originally a 1999-2001 Monte Carlo body. I had the Chrysler 300 front fenders added and Billy Davis JR. and Kyle Webb built the rest of the body and hung it.

I race Pure Stocks in Pennsylvania and something I learned is having that front tire up in the air IS NOT FASTER. Put a stiffer RR spring. I feel like you have plenty of motor but your driving in deep enough. Good luck and keep plugging away.
