I only have Mediterranean Tortoises, not box turtles, but your enclosure looks so awesome! Every Tortoise-keeper's goal imo!

Is that a mealworm? They bite hard. I read that sometimes it is best to chop the worm's heads off so they don't bite back. We have fed superworms to our beardie and they look similar.
@shellpuppies3 күн бұрын
Superworm. Funny the only thing she ever had issue biting back was a wax worm. If I can fund that old vid I will post it. She is 2x bigger now nothing is to tough for her to tackle.

Dont put even a single goldfish in there... the ponds way too small for one and theyre big fish. Guppies/mosquito fish are great for that size tho! I keep fish so I spread some good care about ❤
@freyathedwarfcaiman.779011 күн бұрын
Also adding that goldfish and rosey reds contain thiamanese, and cause vitamin deficiencies in reptiles and fish that eat them. If the turtle eats them.

Thanks for the video. It really should have been entitled New Red Dragon Turtle enclosure. And I have an honest question. You seem well organized and know what you are doing. Have you ever considered large gauge wire lids for shallow containers that are not escape proof--or for Houdini turtles? I have seen many enthusiasts make their own in many ways, and they work very well--and if the openings are large enough, like with chicken wire, you can easily see everything. Many ways to do it. Just a thought. Thanks again. Big reptile enthusiast here, former So. Cal. Turtle & Tortoise Club VP. Love to see all the cuties.

He has that big sweet smile and supposed to be angry? Poor fellow! I think keeping up the plenty of attention and stimulus you're giving will eventually help -- my husband and I pay lots of attention to our 4 box turtles (we have a cuora amboina Malaysian among them), take them out to our fenced-in deck and yard, they listen to music and watch TV and even play. I'm glad you are petting him and showing him affection because the little feller needs lots of love and understanding. Our turtles have never bitten us. But try music, and singing and even baby talk; he doesn't have to think he's such a macho turtle determined to show off for the guys. It worked for our Borgie, honest (he's an American three-toed with beautiful red markings). Beautiful turtle!

@shellpuppiesАй бұрын
To my knowledge all ours are male japonica to female flavo.
@tortugeroАй бұрын
@@shellpuppies thanks for info, for some reason I thought maybe male flavo to female japonica. Due to the female flavo being able to close back part of shell on the male during mating

Aren't there some really good people who have even fixed beaks(AS IN basically gave them new ones) for birds to be able to eat properly again? Wouldn't something like that work? I know it might be costly but I just know it's a thing.
@shellpuppies7 ай бұрын
It's a good idea. But I'm not sure how similar the beak or head structure is to have that done or if her bones will handle it as she will still grow some thru her life just more slowly.
