Great vid and thanks for sharing. I’m based in Burry Port and have only recently bought another boat after being high and dry for over 30yrs since my last one due to living and working away. I and a mate have just recently bought a 6.5 Ribcraft with a Yam F150 on the back for adventures and a bit of fishing. Back in the 90’s we used to use bubble floats drifting Whitford lighthouse for Bass using Joeys which was very productive at times. Hope to see you next year once we’ve sorted “Ribbed for pleasure” for the water if all goes well.😁👍

No disrespect intended but to get the very best chance to catch cod in that water we always caught well using a 5lb box of squid between 2 of us and a minimum of 6lb of BLACK LIVE LUG.... with a couple dozen of Devon peeler.. EACH..😮 Extreme ?? Maybe but 20 yrs ago we were out of penarth on board where 2 kent lads... they had over 10lb of lug and a big box of squid.... Their baits were over TWELVE INCHES LONG with 3 6/0 hooks. They emptied the channel... the rest of us struggled like hell. Think i had 1 my m8 had 2.....!!!!!! Now bearing in mind the cost of travel your place on the boat, food etc it's madness to skimp on the bait.. I've seen anglers put 2 or 3 worm slice of squid, sit on it for an hour and are surprised when they catch very little if anything.... That'll get washed out in 15 especially on a big spring... Don't get me wrong I'm not rich but would far sooner afford 3 good trips a winter than say half a dozen.. worst day we ever had was 6 cod... Ok we've not been for 5 or 6 years but going again this year to try it... Great video buddy
@toadfishuksportangling26905 ай бұрын
sorry only now this comment has come up on my analytics /not on the usual comments section.we used to by tons of lugworm ourselves back a few years ago to good success .the last few years ,sadly the cod have dropped off in numbers big time.with the increasing costs of worm and lack of it due to constant rain ,preventing diggers finding it .we target a variety of species these days with various baits ,to ensure a good days sport .thank u for your comment .tight lines

@@toadfishuksportangling2690 that is very sad to hear god we couldn't get enough of the Welsh boat fishing back in the late 80s and 90s. We even skipped of work on goid weather days...lol.. Its a sad indictment of the world today we really have messed up our environment.. But will tell you a little story that might make you raise your eyebrows.. Back in the 80s 90s we used to dig rag worm at wains Hill/ and black rock off clevedon ( being Bristol boys) We didn't have to go too far. Well anyway back then the Harry Brown was an old boat that dumped raw sewage out into the shipping lane at low tide. She did it for decades. That's why you'll remember having allsorts of crap on our lines when we wound in from bloody old tampax / sanitary pads etc.. Anyway the lug worm and rag we dug were like anaconda out the bloody jungle Rag 14" long thick as a Havana cigar Blow lug BIGGER than the black lug dug today.. Now here's the funny bit, when the Harry brown stopped dumping sewage in the channel the worm size decreased massively AND in numbers too... Now this also coincided with the cod starting to thin out too... A coincidence ??? I very much doubt it.. By stopping the dumping ( I.e feeding) the marine life they destroyed the balance.. We ALL ATE the fish in 80s I was in my 20s I'm 65 now and still going strong.. and ate tons of catch we caught... The worms filtered all the crap out and the environment did just fine... Still just thought you might be interested in that little story. Take care tight lines buddy..
@djsimonrossprice94005 ай бұрын
@@toadfishuksportangling2690 You got me thinking quick one I had a m8 in 80s/90s was a navel man very experienced sailor been all over the world. He reckoned the Bristol channel mid stream at a massive spring was in his opinion one of the very worst place to be in a small vessel... Anyway like us he was a massive angler shore/ boat . Well we had the idea one day of the following.. Bloody stupid thinking of it now.. At the Avonmouth scale of 15.0 m high water 0.0 low water we decided to go out and have a look at the sand bars mid channel. No doubt you lads can see them like we can. I'd always wondered if there was any worm on them.... we head out 5 of his in his ex RNLI Rib 10 mins we were there.. From the shore it was as calm as hell BUT once there it was very lumpy . (From tide pushing up the sandbanks).. But at dead slack water it calmed right down. Now I ( young n daft) fancied getting out on the banks which are huge I might add. But my m8 held me back he reckoned as the banks moved about due to the tide they could be liquid sand.. So cautiously we pull alongside and leaned over but the sand was hard ... Kevin our m8 who was the lightest got out but stayed close incase he got into trouble, but was OK. So we handled him a spade and got him to dig.... Holy hell it was a investion of Lug on that bank. Only 18" down I kid you not in 5 mins he'd dug 2lb of perfect big fat worm.. Well we were getting excited but our salor m8 made him get back in as the tide was just turning.. and you know like me you don't take the piss in the channel... Well we got back following day we dug some rag and following day we hit Chesil hoping for plaice.. Boy we had our best ever day on the flatties.. Sadly we never did go back out mid channel... our buddy reckoned it was far too dangerous. We were gutted but of course he was quite right. Looking back now I guess we were a bit reckless had our buddy not been so experienced I wouldn't have bothered... But at least we found out those banks are stuffed with 🪱 lol...

@@djsimonrossprice9400 yes ive always suspected that once they stopped all the sewerage going into the bristol channel,all the crabs and worms that were feeding on it started to dissappear .back then you never saw a blonde ray on the marks off sully/barry area .they are plentiful nowadays due to the changing sea bed .
