The ten thousand hours thing came from statistical data gathering of high level musicians - like orchestra and symphony level, professional musicians. Basically they studied a fx ton of musical students and followed their careers with the hope of identifying variables associated with performance of the most "talented" musicians so they could learn to predict who would eventually become great players and the single most consistent variable for excellence was just endless hours and hours of practice lol seems obvious really, and 10,000 was iirc the adjusted average of those who could perform at that high of a level.

One tripe BJJ white belt here - none of this has resonated at my club. Blue belts and upper are asked to roll with new white belts, and there’s no problems asking anyone to roll. My professor is also a Judo brown belt, and we have a black belt judoka that teaches a Judo class as well. I do see that top game is overlooked, even though we drill throws often, which is why I’m starting to take the Judo class as well to focus on throws. I love both. Not sure it has to be a competition. I also have kickboxing experience, play hockey, so this has been great.

Key sentence In what you have said is this: "I dont have any but when I do...." you will be able to tell better when you do and until then you can say whatever you want but it's not supported by your own experience so you don't really know. Every kid is different and my first son started taekwondo at age of 3.5 by the time he was 5 he joined bjj club2 times a week, swimming pool and scouts- he was still bored quite often. And my 2nd child has twice as much energy as the first one and literally never stops. Also guess who needs to drive them to all those classes? Adult parent. Kids need to be bored at times and learn how to deal with it as otherwise there's no amount of classes that will get tired enough as they adapt to it. I don't mean screen time but just sit on their arses for 10 minutes and suck it up will do rhem world of good- to be calm at times is a skill just like anything else.

@@OGFITNESSit's not 1 class it's in my case 6 times a week and I work full time as well, I'm glad that now that he is 11 he reduced amount of those classes in order to study for high school exams, as it was exhausting to me especially that we have 2 year old to deal with also and this guy never stops. It's all easier said than done, and there is financial aspect of it too. I would say being active in one way or another, walks, running, playing with kids outside- spending time sctively is important especially to engrave hat from young age but I would also say boredom is necessary teacher- to learn how to be calm. Kids need break from all kinds of stimulation as well- having said that have to get them tired first. But it takes to experience this and how tiring it is also to parents to appriciate it and not just say that someone failed. People work all sorts of jobs and some more tiring than the others

Judo, is actually kosher Plasticine. But seriously folks... Judo and boxing is not a bad combination, but where both Judo and BJJ both (literally) fall down, is by going to ground. It is rare, in a self-defence situation, for an antagonist to act alone. Yes, sure, you may have someone in a Hirohito arm-bar on the deck, but their buddy will be using your head for football practice. Any kick above the groin is probably going to end badly, not least because you won't have the space to use them, and with one foot off the ground, you will not be well balanced. Most real fights don't take place in a nice clean ring, there will be kerbstones, bollards, broken bottles, ice and all sorts of other potential hazards around that might cramp your style somewhat. Who are the people who have to use self-defence the most? Club bouncers. How many times do you see them go to ground? As close to zero as makes no difference. Sure, you can learn the locks and holds bits, but all this cack about leg-holds, etc. is worthless in a proper fight because someone on meth won't 'tap out' because they won't feel it, you can be making gristly snapping noises with their arms and legs and they will still be coming back at you. Personally, I found that the combination of Boxing, Wing Chun (for the close-quarter nasty stuff with head, knees, elbows, and eye, and throat strikes), bits of Wado-Ryu, and wrestling/Judo moves worked best. Learn some of the nasty stuff, like groin-strikes, standing on someone's foot and pushing them over (usually a broken or dislocated ankle), but leave the flashy stuff for the ring. Most doormen I knew only ever used half a dozen moves. The one I saw used most was probably the 'rear hoist' where an 'atomic wedgie' is used in combination with a scruff of the neck or hair hold, to raise someone to their tiptoes before ejecting them with a well placed kick in the arse. It provided just enough humiliation to dissuade them from coming back.

Judo and Muay Thai is an underrated base for self defense and even MMA. Complete striking plus clinching and heavy conditioning from Muay Thai. Combine that with Judo’s versatility in throws/sweeps (plus old school leg grabs) and aggressive and direct Ne Waza (ground work) that goes for the finish and not fumbling too long in the guard like BJJ. Judo teaches the use of the gi (everyone wears clothes on the street) and teaches no gi variations (useful for MMA or fighting on the beach). Context: judo brown belt, BJJ blue belt, 5 years in Muay Thai. 3-0 amateur MMA.

I agree, muay and judo is better because of the thai clinch. Judo and boxing isn't that good, neither art teach you an efficient way to engage in the clinch/grappling without the gi. I’m a 60 year old Seido Juku karate ka with judo experience. I learned these fighting arts in NYC. Boxing is the best self defense for most situations. It teaches you how to punch in combinations. It teach how to punch in a relaxed state with speed and accuracy. It teaches you how to throw the hardest punch in all of martial arts. It’s also teaches how to avoid and block punches and fighting distance. Boxing teaches all this in under a year. Kyokushin karate if taught right is vastly superior to Muay Thai. Kyokushin is karate made to be dominate over other fighting styles based on fighting technique and conditioning. Kyokushin kicks and strikes are meant to end fights. Speed and power is everything in Kyokushin. Being an older man I was fortunate enough to be taught by judoka who knew all the dirty banned techniques and strikes(atemi) and taught them as jiujitsu. My judo instructors knew how to strike. Those judo Sampai were scary in the 90s. They could slap you unconscious. After you been thrown by them trust me the fight is over.
@OGFITNESS
@OGFITNESS 18 күн бұрын
i definitely agree that kyokushin philosophy of throwing with enough power to end a fight is a very powerful approach, i've realised that body conditioning combined with power makes a huge difference when fighting, it gives a huge advantage. One thing i don't like with the styles is they don't allow head shots but if one cross trains n boxing as well then all of a sudden you got the best of both worlds.

The founder of Seido Juku is Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura . Kaicho Nakamura is arguably the one of the greatest Masters that Mas Oyama has ever trained. The main reason why punches are not allowed to the head is to develop superior kicking abilities than other martial arts. Trust me if you ever fight me I’m going to punch you in the face. Great fighter aren’t limited by the styles they studied. The whole time I studied karate I model myself on Muhammed Ali , Joe Frazier ,Sugar Ray Leonard and Bruce Lee. Great champion fighters know how to throw combinations in the right order at the right time. Floyde Mayweather is the greatest aikido Master since O’Sensei, but then again bull fighters are better at aikido than most aikido practitioners will ever be. I was never a very flexible person. I had to work extremely to gain any flexibility. Before any class I would stretch for 30 minutes. I lived in that dojo. Boxing techniques fill in gaps that I lacked in karate.

This is very wrong, I’ve been to a few mma gyms as a judoka. They’re horrible, they teach bjj and muy thai. Basically how to hit the pads and pull guard to ground work. About the worse practice to defend yourself. But once you’re randory ready in judo you are actually going 100% learning how your body reacts to the explosive nature of a fight, your adrenaline kicks in every randory session, And you do this on the regular. My brown belt in judo was plenty for bbj/muy thai mma practitioners with the same amount of experience. This was about 3 mma schools in socal where mma is big. Once I would start exploding into judo moves they were utterly clueless.
