It’s not 4 hours to the beach Kook. You can get to the Golden Gate bridge in less then 3 hours. Mt Shasta ski park is less then 2 hours. You don’t know shit about Chico. There is over 100k in the city limits plus about 100k directly adjacent. Downtown Chico is disgusting and Chico state is falling apart. Enrollment used to be around 20k now it’s around 10k because the neighborhoods surrounding Chico State are slums with shootings and trap houses. Bidwell Park has been overrun by transient camps. Blue tarps, bicycle parts and needles🤷🏻 Just a Chapman local spitting facts. This fool is trying to get your money 🤑 What a kook! Probably lives in Pleasanton 🤣

Chico is a very bad place......too many people want to keep it as a small town....ok.....and then life keeps evolving......People in Chico think they can stop progress......every modern city is evolving. The population is growing. People want Chico to become modern with the latest technologies, but they don't welcome industrial nor residential growth.. So sad that Chico is not going to progress

Why can't some places be like that? That is more my preference and is others too. I don't drive by choice, and to find a walkable city is fantastic! I like the relational aspect Brent noted in another vid - people keep running into each other, evoking that small town feeling. Fewer cars, more conversation! Tech has its limits. Nature rules.

So by default if you raise a child here you are more likely to abuse them? That’s not how stats work dude lol . On the other hand I’ve heard that we’re the most opiate addicted county and that could lead to neglect which in turn appears as abuse in stats. Either way it’s clear butte has a drug problem but I live chico anyway

Instead I interpret this alleged statistic as there’s some screwed up people here but it’s not like something in the air is making people abuse kids…I mean if I had the option to raise a child here or in say the worst parts of Detroit or Chicago I’m not gonna consider a stat that reflects what others do in their homes instead I would focus on what happens in the schools and in the neighborhoods. A high rate of violent crime would determine what k seem safe to raise a kid

Car payments are the single biggest reason why people dont qualify for home loans right now, next to student loans. Having one or two $500+ payments really reduces your borrowing power.

It’s built for a large family. My daughter had five kids and sometimes seven when the nieces came to stay. She’s battling insurance to cover smoke damage but they won’t. She says because of her asthma she can’t live there. She only has three kids now but she’s living in a hotel room with nothing but social security ( my son died ) she’s on her own. The realtor says she has to empty the house but the lawyer says to keep it as is till they get insurance to cover the loss. She’s really stuck between a rock and a hard place. What do you suggest?

No traffic in Chico? I guess it depends on where you live in Chico and what other town you're comparing Chico to. Compared to large cities, Chico is pretty good. Compared to what the traffic used to be in Chico years ago, there's a lot of traffic now. We've been here in Chico since 1978. Chico has changed a lot since then. I like your video!

I work for the local property managements. I don't check prices that often, because that's not my job. But I do know one complex that has ten units available. $2000 a month for four bedrooms. Apartments. My mom and I are kind of looking for some help. When people (usually students) move out of a place, we get the units ready for the next group moving in. $23/hr at first, then more later. Could work as little or as much as he wants. We get our pick of jobs now.

In the beginning you said that Bidwell Part is in the middle, a dividing line between the north and the south. Then later you said that you gave the edge to the south because the south has Bidwell Park. So which is it? Great video! I enjoyed it!

I don’t feel safe walking downtown with my kids. The last time I was downtown I had my kids ( an infant and a 2 yr old and this homeless person walked up to me and my kids while smoking drugs ( not marijiana) out of their pipe while signaling at us and speaking gibberish. I had to do a full circle around this person to get to my car. By the time I got back to my car and was buckling my kids This person had walked back to where we were and I had to hurry just so that I could limit the exposure to the drugs they were smoking. So not ok!

I just recently found your videos and I appreciate the local content. However for this particular video this is an a-historical account of what has happened locally. What happened is that the City of Chico lost a lawsuit and had to add shelter beds. Simotaneously there was State money provided to expand capacity for just this type of thing. Chico has done well in utilizing these funds efficiently to improve the situation, but the improvement is not due to local partisan politics, but in fact state money and the courts kind of forcing the City's hand. I could go into greater detail but that's basically the gist. Keep up the local videos I look forward to them.

@@pitifullittleman1029 I’m pretty sure that the building of the Jesus Center and a lot of the Renewal Center was funded by private citizens. I sold a house owned by the late Fred Hignell. Just under 1 million dollars. 100% of the proceeds went to the Jesus Center. I think that the pallet shelter and the Torres shelter is primarily with government money though. Feel free to fact check that. Seems like you’re pretty savvy.

🚨Butte County: Continues to Lead California in Child Abuse🚨 Butte County, CA has been grappling with high rates of child abuse for several years. In 2013, the county had a rate of 0.9 cases per 100,000 residents. By 2017, this rate had significantly increased to 33.6 cases per 100,000 residents. This alarming trend has continued, with the rate of substantiated cases of child abuse or neglect reaching 9.2 per 1,000 children in 2020, well above the California state average of 6.8 per 1,000 children. 📈 📊 Reports from the Center for Youth Wellness indicate that Butte County has notably higher childhood maltreatment rates than California overall. The county has higher rates of neglect and abuse allegations (74.0 vs. 54.3 per 1,000 children), substantiations (9.9 vs. 7.7), and entries into protective care (6.5 vs. 3.1). From 2008 to 2013, 76.5% of Butte County residents reported having one or more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), the highest rate of all California counties and significantly higher than the state average of 61.7%. Additionally, nearly twice the percentage of Butte County residents reported having four or more ACEs compared to the state average (30.3% vs. 15.9%). 📉 Similarly, results from the 2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) demonstrated that 76.5% of Butte County respondents had one or more ACEs, considerably higher than the most recent data for statewide respondents (65.5%). Butte County respondents had higher rates across all ACEs categories, with the most frequent being substance use disorder 💊 by a household member (37.8% vs. 26.1%), parental separation or divorce (37.3% vs. 26.7%), emotional or verbal abuse (35.2% vs. 34.9%), a household member with a mental disorder (28.4% vs. 15.0%) and witnessing domestic violence (19.3% vs. 17.5%).

I’m not sure where you’re getting with this but Chico is not all of butte county, and those statistics should be check, I’ve been in city’s like Oakland and other, Chico is no where near as bad, I guess what gets reported is what changes the statistics.

Well, it’s more the homeowners and people living near high encampment areas and the kids and parks etc that were effected. But I think Chico is headed in the right direction by providing safe and comfortable housing options like Jesus center, Torres, and pallet shelter. Much better than living on the streets. 💯
