🍸I think a more succinct description of "boutique" is that the builder has made one or more *intentional* choices - design, construction, wood choices, pickups, preamps, hardware, etc.

Does anybody could tell me the name of model and brand of the bass behind Janek's back?, (the one with the white pickups)

🦆Thanks Janek. A whole new world has opened up for me. Can yo maybe mention one of your compositions where the Harmonic Major has been used, and if you can elaborate over which chords this scale would be useful in improvisation?

Janek might have worked this out by now, but since he is using it in mono, so he could wire the HX One up in two positions in his signal chain and choose the "pre" or "post" position for each preset (the other position is bypassed). It's designed for 4CM around an amp, but you could just add easily have it hopping from one position to any another, like from post-amp to end of chain, for instance. I've got mine set to first in line and just after my preamp, so it can do comp, filters, octave or fuzz/synth up front, or mods, harmoniser, delays (even bitcrusher, if you're nasty), after the amp and before my "wets".

I have been a musician for 4 decades. When I was in music school I wanted to be this amazing bassist and then I heard so many incredible players and my private teacher who was world class said, "just be you" and always play musically.Play the music not your ego. Do your homework for gigs do your OWN work to strive to get better. Listen to everything not just your instrument. Be teachable , music is a joy and can be a moving experience. It's not a competition. Love the music and it will love you And listen to Janek he is a wonderful musician and Tutor. Now go play :)

Another thought along with “relearning” bass guitar: I was planning on getting your sight reading book and the pentatonic book. Would you also suggest the newest, “Scales and Arpeggios”? I’m not opposed to another book.
@janekgwizdala3 күн бұрын
@@lionsdenblog the new scales book is a technical manual, so I think it can work in tandem with any of the other books. It’s designed to be the go-to reference for scales, arpeggios and all things technical related to give the reader the best possible foundation with the instrument.

The Stambaugh headless 5 I’m ordering next month is boutique to me. It’ll be my main instrument. I may get a P bass down the road, but that depends on how versatile Chris’ instrument is in my hands. Due to your influence, I’ll string it EADGC with an octave pedal for below E. Are there any string manufacturers who makes sets in that tuning or am I forced to buy six string sets and discard the low B? 🍸
@SAN-hk7wx3 күн бұрын
Hi, Janek! Is there a video of you playing the whole tune fast? I mean coplete solo and not only some of 2 5 1 phrases.. I'd really love to hear it! Your concept and tips sound amazing and book material seems good too! But in slow tempos all of jazz standards not as hard as you think.

I don't see anything wrong with an artist changing anything...that's artistic expression. A painter will use different colours, and in fact, display different styles over a lifetime of work. Musical artists write new songs, new music. Why do some people make negative comments about a bass player who uses a different bass or amp, or effects? Why not try things differently, why not experiment? I think that's exactly why artists are who they are, to be creative.

As far as the knee up style of holding the bass-maybe the height/body shape of the player may be of concern. I am a shorter player, with shorter limbs, and just can't play like that. Janek, are you a taller human? That might be part of the equation.
@dannygold28824 күн бұрын
I think of boutique less as rarity and more about being hand made with quality materials and craftsmanship. I think you can have rare/prototype instruments that are not boutique.

No need to worry about earning money. You could actually consider it pretty clever to take the opportunity to put something away for "retirement" (do you get too old to play even?). You are a good bass player, and you have played a plethora of high-end instruments, so you might think you know a thing or two about basses - good for you, good for them, reciprocity.
