It amazes me how some people seem to have no problem with (prior to The Avengers) watching two 2-hour movies (one great & one mediocre) about Iron Man and one 2-hour movie about Captain America- yet seem to take such personal offense and make it seem like such an arduous task to watch an awesome 3-hour film about Batman & Superman (in addition to a great solo Superman film). And I say that because I absolutely hated the Theatrical Version of BVS. I was just about ready to wash my hands of the DCEU after that one; but the Ultimate Edition quickly made that movie my personal all-time favorite superhero film. I get something new and different from it after each viewing.

"Power can be innocent" compactly summarizes the whole point of BvS: Lex first said that line with the “the oldest lie in America” thing. He is anti-God and believed that “If God is all powerful, he could not be all good. If God is all good, he could not be all powerful.” He framed, demonized Superman and even pitted Batman against him just to prove the said idea. Bruce is already 20 years into Batman and has seen good guys turn from good to bad. He first-handed witnessed the destructive power of Superman and became paranoid about that. He then developed the notion “if there is 1% of Superman going crazy(even though he seems like a good guy right now), we have to take it as absolute certainty.” At the “Martha” moment, he saw the humanity in Superman and chose to give him a chance. Maybe, men are still good. Maybe, I was just being way too suspicious. Maybe, I should have faith in the 99%. (But it does not mean he gives up on killing thugs if necessary. It just means he believes Superman can be all good all the way without ever turning bad. So, he spared him) With all the hatred from Lex and doubts from Bruce, between choosing “be their monument or be none of it…” , Superman chose to use his final power for the ultimate sacrifice and saved them all, which indirectly proved that “Power can be innocent” Whenever people ask me what the hell BvS is even about, I think I will just give my answer starting with that line.

I like your analysis. It's undoubtably a good thing we're getting a different spin on Batman. My favorite will probably always be Nolan's version, but I suppose if we got another Batman totally averse to killing then we would have gotten something we've seen before.

Captain America kills dudes in his first film in the montage. Even in Winter Soldier, he gives the go-signal to kill off the terrorists in the ship.

+Gerard Espiritu you're absolutely right, and I'm not a huge fan of that either. It just seems like a lazy way to get rid of them so they don't have to explain how they were captured sans-death. But, I just prefer my superheroes goody goody. I know there's different opinions out there. Thanks for commenting!
