I did a comparison live on stage between my vintage Silvertone and one of the new Danelectro guitars. Sadly, the re-issue failed to measure up. The re-issue handled well but sonically it fell way short of my old Sears model. The new pickups sounded flat and lifeless with no definition. There was no pickup combination that stood out. I think the re-issues should focus a little more on the lipstick tube pickups and a little less on the slick lacquer finish and hype as an "improved design". The original Sears and Roebuck guitars are revered for their tone. The re-issues should make that original tone the new companies priority.

I had an original Silvertone with the amp in the case. I believe it was around 1961. It was my first guitar that my dad purchased for me. I remember the high E tuner knob stripped out and I had to take wire pliers to tune it. The next year my dad bought me a 62 Les Paul SG that I still have today.
