Just saw your vid and channel. The usual haters on V6's are the ones that are getting their footage uploaded of wrecking when leaving a Cars and Coffee when trying to show out for people.

A car that gets slept on honestly. With 3.73 gears, an intake, 91 octane and a decent exhaust i was able to make it a low 14 second car when i had one of these. Pretty much not as fast as a 2 valve 04 GT but not too far off and a fun car nonetheless. Faster than most cars on the road honestly and a lot of old sports cars people hype up. Also had a better rear end, suspension, LSD, better breaks, better drive shaft that i could get the car to 135 in without breaking when i got rid of the limiter, some sticky ass tires for tracking and honestly felt about as fast as a 2 valve i briefly had recently despite having like 30ish less horse power while handling WAY better. Eventually got t-boned but honestly if it wasnt for that i might still have the car, lot of feels with that one… also decent amount of money.. Yeah its never gonna be faster than a 3 valve with dumping a nonsensical amount of money into it buy buying one of these cheap and putting in $2000 gets you a mid to lower 14 second car that feels more fun to drive than a lot of newer muted cars that are significantly faster. I definitely went overkill with mine when it came to mods when i was a kid but i was determined to turn the car into a solid track car to learn with and it was. Passed a few way significantly faster and better cars being driven by lesser experienced drivers and that was always a highlight of my day. Fun fun fun fucking car. Not the best car at anything and for what i wanted to do there were definitely better options even at the time(miata, RSX type S, etc) but honestly the enjoyment that car gave me was unmatched to my actual fast cars today. Probably cause I was so young and inexperienced but yeah lol. Plus honestly it was such a good looking car to me and other people thought so to despite S197’s being a dime a dozen and the interior being one step above a Power Wheel’s Barbie mustang

I bought a 06 mustang and it came with a CAI already installed, I have a P0017 code as a check engine and I assume its because of the intake. Is that what you had on yours before the tune?

i had the 4.0 as well and let me tell you that shit slow as fuck, not only that but the S197 generation had too many recalls and i had too many mechanical issues with it and just got to a point were i just had to trade it in

It is slower stock that’s true. A lot of these 4.0s are clapped mine was taken care of when I got it. 60,000 miles and now it’s at 120,000 been super reliable for me drove it back and forth to college for 5 years straight

Tips for these cars if you're going for handling, wide front tires. Lots of people run staggered setups but that's not what you want, you want as wide of a front tire as you can fit (I run 18x10 +43 front and rear w/ 275s, you can go bigger but you'll have to play around with the offsets more to make the front fit). Big brakes are a must too, cheapest route is to get 14" 4 piston brembos from the 07-09 GT500 (You can go bigger with later model 6 pistons but probably isn't worth the weight and cost penalty at this stage) Another upgrade you can make to the front end is to add 11-14 lower control arms. They are much stiffer for handling/stability and have a heavier duty balljoint, but you'll have to modify the stock knuckles or swap to the 11-14 knuckle to make them work (Bigger balljoint is too big for the stock knuckle). None of these upgrades are particularly expensive but make a big difference to the feel and performance of the older S197s. Add in a coyote swap and you're in a different world from the stock car. When you do the coyote swap I highly recommend replacing the throwout bearing (mine failed at 100k and caused serious issues) and upgrading to a twin disc clutch if you're going to run the MT82 (stock clutch does NOT like high RPM abusive shifting, you don't want to mess with high RPM shift lockout)
@neighborhoodgearhead2165 ай бұрын
I really appreciate the info, Super clutch bro! I’ll definitely get a twin disc when I get the coyote
@theawesomeguy99995 ай бұрын
@@neighborhoodgearhead216 For sure man, wasn't trying to info dump but it's all stuff I would've like to know early on. Yeah the stock clutch is really not up to what the 5.0 can do, even ford knows it. 2018+ 5.0 cars come with twin disc clutches from the factory

It needed a tune because you changed the diameter of the intake. If you install a cold air with the stock diameter piping, your maf sensor will read the same and no tune is required.
