i worked at best buy in the 90's and they were filming a forklift safety video in the brand new appliance warehouse DAW #78, after they were done filming some aspect one of my co workers scotty drove in with the battery powered stand up crown forklift getting the last of some home appliances out of a 54' trailer, and the semi driver thought he was done because of the long break while the videographer stopped the unloading process to finish the shot of proper procedures for the past 15 minutes. i heard the truck start up as scotty drove into the trailer and told him to becareful as the driver might drive away, and we had no safety locks to keep the trailer locked to the dock door and no light system was installed yet to let the drivers know the trailer was being loaded/unloaded still, and scotty in a quick hurry had driven to the cab end of the trailer to grab the last set of appliances and was full throttle reverse trying to get out of the trailer before the driver could drive away, i was just unlocking the garage door on the drivers side to let the driver know not to drive away when the driver started to pull away, scotty was almost to the lip of the trailer at full speed and we told him to jump off the forklift and he barely made it to the concrete floor of the dock and a couple steps further inside the building, when that forklift went off the end of the trailer, and that forklift dropped immediately there was no hangtime what so ever it started going down as soon as the rear wheels made contact with the end of the trailer and the forklift went from vertical to dead horizontal in about 4/10ths of a second the forklift mast snapped off as the forks were the only thing making contact with the end of the trailer and back into the operators compartment in one quick almost blink of the eye motion right over the battery playing fulcrum and the entire forklift ended up on the concrete pad laying on it's back side perfectly. had scotty not jumped or been a split second later in his jump he would be dead and chopped in half from the mast shield that protects the operator from falling object from up high over their head and partially crushed by the forklifts mast and probably a leg under the machines body. the driver still had no clue and i had gotten the door thrown up and was hollaring stop as loud and quick as i could 3 times and putting both hands out in stop motions. meanwhile the camera guy and videographer were just staring in shock. they immediately got their camera running again before the dust had even settled and were detailing what had just been missed mere seconds before and filming the brand new forklift destroyed and the truck driver profusely apologizing to us from right beside his door step after he got his truck stopped and parked with the air brakes still hissing and scotty was just pale as a ghost his whole body shaking and i looked at him and said it's a good thing you barely hesitated when we told you to jump the first time other wise he'd have been dead, it was that close. this whole thing i wrote took place in the span of 17 seconds with the part from me just unlocking the door from there to the forklift on the ground taking 3 seconds. i can't even begin to describe everything that happened in those 3 seconds, it wasn't slow motion, just everything went that fast. the truck driver didn't pull away slow at all, infact he was probably 10mph in less than a second and a half. one of the fastest pull aways from a dock door i have ever seen. we had close calls at the main ware house before but we had safety lights, the temporary warehouse we were at had safety lights and trailer dock locks which i was one of the only 2 people to activate and there were a just under a dozen times it had prevented this exact scenario from happening previously 3 times when the trailer was unhooked and the wheels were on a couple inches of ice and the trailer tried to slide away again. i had started activating the locks after the first time a trailer slid away from the dock due to ice even with the tractor still coupled up. sometimes the guys forgot to check the locks after i turned them on and the tractors tried to pull away and couldn't, it never hurt anything when that happened and none of the drivers ever tried to pull away hard at the temp warehouse, while the videographer was still filming i looked right at my manager and i said that's why i said we shouldn't be using these docks until they get the safety locks installed loud enough for the camera to pick it up and told the videographer the directions to the temp ware house about 15 minutes up the road where he could film the safety lights and trailer dock locks i had just mentioned and i walked away. this whole thing was entirely my managers fault trying to save time and money by utilizing the new warehouse when only 3 of the dock plates had been installed out of the 25 and non of the safety equipment other than fire extinguishers were installed, there wasn't even a security system at the time which i had mentioned to loss prevention officers at other locations. the manager was a pos anyways he got alot of delivery drivers broken backs because a computer program treated human beings like machines that didn't get fatigued muscles moving 2&1/2 times the normal appliance units per day because the program computed it could be done at that pace in an 8 hour day and detailed the route which had zero recovery time keeping delivery stops barely minutes apart. thanks to him a dozen drivers are on permanent disability for life and most of them were in their 20's. his name is mark white.

If you grab both double stacked boxes at once, it's smarter to slightly grab the top box with the bottom. So you can guarantee a safe grip and not have a slip of product. Meaning raise your clamp a little my guy.🤷🏾♂️ I operate one at my job. 11 yrs forklift experience.

Did you tell your supervisor that you ran into the pole? Lol. You are like the only vid I found of people enjoying their job. First time and like 20+ years of ever being on a Hilo. When I was in training, I accidentally hit another Hilo. I even told my boss, I might have a hard time getting out because it was Adjacently in my way. But I got licensed in two days. :)
