I remember it well, It always felt like I was going to a fancier part of the city, but as i was coming from pollok to visit my grandparents it was by far a nicer place, it's funny to think all these years later and Glasgow is still a shit-hole most of the jobs are still low paid service sector and you can still hear mothers in drumchapel shout obscene language at their offspring, ah, Scotland eh!, the only country to have had oil and never see a penny from it, in fact we voted not to run our own country & have wealth, but instead allowed another to run us into the ground, kill off nearly all the industries that paid anything close to a decent wage, but we can look at the things we do have like the most drug deaths per year in Europe the shortest life expectancy a failing NHS a joke of a government & an out of control mass immigration problem (1 in 10 of us wasn't born here) and that number of these foreign folk grows every year, it's funny how when you've grown up in a shit-hole like the Drum and you get a crap job a crap car and a crap house you think I'm way better off than folk were when I was young & you miss the bigger picture of maybe 30 years from now in my city it might become like London/England or am I being a far right racist for not wanting my country to become like England or Germany, France,Ireland or any of these other countries which are having riots because of mass-immigration, Id happily go back to having nothing in 1985 than be living with the worry of what we might become.

2:47 I'll let anyone not from Glasgow into a little secret. Those neighborhoods in the city only became 'unsightly' after the city council unleashed the wrecking balls, destroyed communities and sent them packing to cold new towns and soulless housing schemes. And even to this day, there remain many square miles of blank and empty wastelands that once were alive and vibrant. Thank God the lunatics were stopped, as it was seriously suggested that almost all of the city centre's historic buildings should have been demolished and replaced with Soviet style brutalist architecture . This was a time when ideologues were feted and people were ignored. Let's not allow that to happen again.

Re The M8 being built . “Clearing of Glasgow slum property “. Charing Cross was certainly never a slum. The surrounding buildings were beautiful .Smashing a motorway through it all was a crime. I grew up a few minutes away at St George’s Cross .

Wow 44 years ago, it seems like yesterday. Such a different approach and sense of hope in an era to today's shambolic crumbling infrastructure! Only 20 then, the 1980's were an exciting time.

Remember the plans for a possible extension of the Underground about 15 years ago - Shite The Rail Link to Glasgow airport- Shite Now we have ULEZ doing the city centre in, that nobody wants -Shite Drag Queen traffic wardens with under tens accompanying them for work experience - Shite Hundreds of Electric food delivery people from overseas riding on the pavement - Shite Humza Yusuf falling off his scooter in the halls of power - White The SNP council to Glasgow and government to Scotland are hamstrung by their gormless lack of knowing what to do nowadays. What could replace this shitshow now to improve transport matters in Glasgow? Council electric rollerskates for every citizen issued with their seventh wheely bin for all households directive to save the planet from cosmic forces? We can defeat the Universe's power as long as we have less churches praying for God to stop being nasty to us and more mosques to pray to God everything works out as there is significantly more muscle in those people who are newly arrived in Scotland with their magic to sway the cosmic question - it just makes sense.

The M8 being put right through the center of the city and Charing cross was the worst road building decision in history. Absoloutly ruined the whole area from the river up to Woodside with horrible motorway and flyovers.

Where do u suggest it should have been put that was conveniant for everyone. Every city's the same. Personally I like the footbridge over the m8 down the road there. Takes a lot off my commute to the centre every day

I'm laughing at the to do list near the start saying a Rail Link to Glasgow Airport & yes in the late 1980s this sounded like a fantastic idea until the SNP got into power & here we are in late 2024 & still we are waiting on this happening because of their personal greed for money & their ineptitude 🤦‍♂️

A fascinating film, great to see this, but why on Earth have you allowed this to be published with the awful AI generated subtitles. They make an interesting piece of recent history into something laughable. In fact, it’s almost like ‘Chewin’ the fat’ in places, I’m waiting for two shell-suited neds to ambush the chin-bearded speaker. Please ditch the AI subtitles.

It's absolutely brilliant to see some streets i haven't seen in so many years. It wasn't Beverly Hills, but i never knew any different at the time and it was the hand you were dealt. Some of the best people ive ever had the pleasure of knowing in life and made me the man i am. There's a lot worse than Drumchapel nowadays in Glasgow, let me tell you. I'll never hear a bad word about the Drum even now. Thanks for the video!

I thought the intro by Elaine C. Smith was a sketch. Her heroic struggle to speak provincial B.B.C. is pure gold. I kept waiting for her to wind up each interview with a huge sigh and say to the cameraman “ zat it? “, as if she can take off the too tight shoes that she’s been wearing all day. Goddess. Good work fella
