Okay im not looking at the cmments, Btw my magic character is called sticmman he loves choclate syrup and he has really intense mood swings, I come out with some cards nad i say i will do the stupidest card trick in the world!!! then i keep dropp[ing cards with the shuffle and it becomes all mixed and im like oh crap my momma like piles, you take pile you shuffle(basiclyh get the whole group in on it, getting them doign a casino wash face up and face down, Everyboooddyyyyy Shuuuffffflllleleee!!). Then ima talk about how each of us have stupid and smart thoughts, and then i tell them this with better presentation while culling, and then ask them to pick a card, and have them sign it and talk about how this card is like them, like this is who they are in paper, like orogami them or cardbox that. Anything they want!!! now i finish up and the ending is like how the face up are smart thoughts and the face down are stupid, and there card is the only one face down, so me being so stupid failed the trick by making them be the stupid card and i get very confused and happy. and then i transitiion into the world fastest card tircM<!!!

There's another really nice way of doing a one-ahead for say a name/place routine; you openly write name on the top half of a billet, do a double turnover so that you are now writing on a different billet which has place pre-written on the back, you then fold the billet into quarters so what you wrote and the category is inside the billet and the outside is blank. That way you can keep the billets on show at your finger tips the whole time and you don't really need to switch them. I think your BTS reveal was fine it came across to me like you'd got lucky and were disappointed to get it so easily, but I agree mindreading is much better when the audience believes that you are going to fail because it almost rules out that you got a peak. For me people who try to stop people from posting live performances on the internet are usually doing it because they want to mislead people into thinking a trick is better than it is.
@ReidFerry6 күн бұрын
Lovely idea, I will play around with that! Totally agree man well said.
@mbcx9ts26 күн бұрын
@@ReidFerry Thank you the idea of folding the billets into quarters and then displaying at fingertips throughout is something I came up with, the nice thing about it you don't need a switch because the billets are so small the spectator can't tell which one you take. I've never liked handing spectators miswritten billets because they could potentially look at them, be reluctant to give you it back, plus I think taking both billets back a looks suspicious. I've came up with a solution to this: have a blank folded billet in finger palm, write the forced word then switch it for the blank folded billet as you hand it to spectator 1 (spectator 1 gets a blank billet), write what spectator 1 tells you on the next billet and switch it for the billet now in finger palm and hand this to spectator 2 (spectator 2 always gets the correct billet), now you get spectator 1 to hand you their billet act like it would be better if they read it themselves and switch it as you hand it back to them. This way at least if spectator 1 tries to mess you up there's nothing to see, you can already have a prediction stating exactly how spectator 1 will behave instead of using a blank billet.
@ReidFerry5 күн бұрын
@mbcx9ts2 this is nice though I wouldn’t say you have to worry about this if you have good audience management and control of your audience. I always place the billets in their hand and have never had an issue. Your solution is nice though, I just would prefer not to do extra switches

Great video. I like to do double cross at large parties but with cigarette ashes. I like to find a couples, and tell them to think about the first time they met. Load up ashes on my middle finger. Do the plant. Make a fist. Have the other hold their hand out and tell them to think about the first time blah blah blah, really play it up as I openly rub the ashes from the other persons hand, other opens their fist. Big reveal. It hits pretty good specially around a bunch of people. Got tears a few times. Happy ones though.

The first 3 obvious options that come to mind are 1) with a magic trick on tv or internet there is always a chance of magical video editing 2) the front card is special and has something on it to hide the ink, the other cards have only one blanc corner which he shows and then hides or 3) he is an actual wizard that can print with his fingers. People always forget about options 3

Also something to do is take an effect and change the props. I love Andy Nyman’s Killer Elite - I love movies and the movie baddies is a great angle. I always loathed the poker chip! It made no sense in the context of these characters. Also I want to always have a pseudo psychological force or explanation. So first I thought what can I use instead of a poker chip? What makes sense? Well since the are all movie bad guys a gun makes sense. They shoot each other one is left standing (no nonsense of lucky poker chip, Andy!) and we can prove it’s his gun proving his the survivor. There are basically two outs that involve that gun. Then I still have the one out in the wallet but I made it so much more fun. It out Tony Montana in a black envelope, I take out his image and as I do a lot of white powder falls out. People know what that is of course and I snort it up and say: “it’s a shame to let it go to waste!” So again I took the stock effect and a stock out and made it theatrical. The secret is, this powder is vitamin B powder - we use in special effects to have prior snort “magic dust”. Now the default photos I changed. First of all the printed plastic cards look too “manufactured” I just picked real photos. But one is black and white (Tony Montana), One has a border, one has his name and one is landscape. I never liked Andy’s performance: “that’s the survivor done”. It misses a last step. And in my case it’s: “why did you chose him as the survivor?” They’ll give a reason which I don’t care i will say: “well that certainly helped. But I didn’t know that, it’s not like I can read your mind, let alone predict the future… I also nudged you, as you look, you subconsciously took the only person who has the name written in the image and it has a white border. This draws you in.” Vice versa: “Did you notice it’s the only black and white photo of the 4? That is what stands out to your subconscious.” And there’s a lot of by play because I use a tiny key chain gun. So I can say: “in a moment you will grab my tiny gun into your hands and gently squeeze it… the trigger it is, 3 times. Now be careful as my tiny gun has been known to prematurely discharge… well in actual fact this doesn’t fire and the trigger doesn’t even work…” most of my effects have sexual innuendo or blatant teasing. Like with a lie detector: “I want you to lie convincingly… I’ll have my work cut with you as you are obviously pathological liar. 😅” and it gets a laugh from him, and the audience. Mentalism is too boring and somber without good jokes and cheeky remarks.

I once sat in the theater watching the movie FOCUS (crap). Where they’d do a cut to the highest card . Saying if they’d missed they’d double the odds and do it again. And I was like… If I go and hustle a guy I’d find a more robust method. So during the I just sat revising a method how to always win and cutting to the highest card. And to be fair have them go first. Within a few minute I’d found a solution. And I use it many times as bar bets, ringing in this hot deck doing a few false shuffled having them cut take the card (not showing me or themselves) me cutting a card and on the count of 3 my card was just 1 or 2 higher. I don’t see magicians actually think about what they want to show. I used a method for decades from Paul Hallas called the Orange. Basically a person calls out a number he gets a packet of nijver finds that number shows that any other number gave different food items. They got Orange and I the bag was an Orange. I love the method and I love giving away a food item. But his performance felt like a throw away effect. So I take a person onto an hypnotic holiday. Explains that science has proven that people who go away for at least 3 weeks preferably abroad, are more productive and creative employees! So since we don’t have 3 weeks we will do it in about 10 minutes getting the same relaxed mindset, using hypnosis. We will travel to the south of France. When I think of France I think of banquette cheese and uh uhh uhh. -“wine!” Usually the person onstage or the audience will fill in the word I can’t seem to grab. And otherwise I blatantly I ask what else. And if it’s wine I reframe that they chose wine, which is interesting because we are going to a vineyard . I do a rapid induction we guide them to a vineyard in the south of France. And I paint this picture of seeing the rows of grape vines. 50 of the best rows of grape vines in all of France. And each row has a little card on it with its row number written in marker pen. You feel the setting sun, and you will stroll along those grapevines and you’ll stop at one that feels especially beautiful or warm you start to walk pasty 1, on to 2 and ui stop anywhere in those 50 rows and you look up and you will remember that number. I bring them back and I ask for the row of grapevines they stopped at. I take out there number. I show all the other numbers had different French foods on them. But their number.. wine!!! And remember in the beginning you said wine!! (If they did say wine it’s an extra hit, and they do most times). I have a box and I ask them to opened it… but bearing in mind that the French also love frogs legs… they usually feel abit uneasy 😂they open it up and it’s a bottle of wine. On the label there’s a hand drawn farm house and vineyard as I suggested it and I ask. Look at the label it’s very similar as you imagined it! See the hills the setting sun, that little farm house. Usually this gets a massive reaction, like: “that’s how I saw it if this wasn’t a hand drawn it’d be the same.” One person said. This is my “one face in 4 billion psychological force.” So from a great method by Paul hallas that he merely made a throw away trick, I created a whole performance peace. And despite it being exactly the same - even food items. It looks and plays completely differently. Take methods and make them your own and even better create your own methods. Just ask yourself: “what do I want to show my audience and find solutions to pull that off.”!!! Then you are creating art and pure magic.

Most magicians aren’t engineers/problem solvers and to make it even worse not even creative writers. You can take a standard effect and make it your own with your own engaging patter using standard effects even. But most just regurgitate the performance and patter. Let alone create an original method. I made a living for 12 years creating high tech mentalism solutions for my own show. Just to stream line it. From stuffing printers into table and making them wireless before wireless printers existed to electronics to know what thing was picked up from a box. To having a computer reading my mind using text to speech and speech to text as a two person code.

Good video Sir thank you. I genuinely invent my own patter because I most often can’t execute many skills lol. I do practice incessantly but try to be way to diverse lol. Rather than narrow my magic love focus I make up stories to work around my shortcomings. Sounds bad but at least 75% of the time it works. I suppose it’s cheating but that’s magics crazy cousin right?!

I love your evocative imagery with this trick. It's the best Triumph patter I've heard that puts all the cliché presentations to shame. OK, I can't improve on that but I might try a science-y spin: After the sloppy shuffle, say the face-up/face-down cards are like magnetic particles with their polarity all jumbled up. Have the spectator rub their chosen card to give it an extra "charge" & then lose it in the "chaos". Take out a Joker or Ace (maybe on the table from the beginning) and say you can use it like a magnet to help flip particles from North to South. Now, (presentation twist) instead of spreading all the cards for the reveal, take the top block of cards and swipe your Joker to "depolarize" those particles. Spread to reveal them all face down. Take the bottom block and swipe to "depolarize" and then spread them. Lastly, take the remaining middle chunk and "depolarize" them saying that all the particles will now be flipped except, perhaps, the chosen card with the extra charge imparted by the spectator. I like this chunky reveal because it uses the rule-of-three to build suspense for the big reveal rather than a single long spread.

I don't have a problem with people copying other magicians routines if they've paid for the trick. Yes originality should always be encouraged but the vast majority of people have only seen a magician live a few times, so the chance of you performing a trick they've never seen before is very high. The problem is when you're booked for an event by a booker, they definitely want magicians who are different and that's where being original can be very beneficial because it can lead to repeat bookings.
@ReidFerry13 күн бұрын
I still think you should adapt parts of it. It can be minor changes in script, presentation, method, etc. but something should make it your own.

I love the triumph effect. I also added the sloppy shuffle to it so you get three kickers from it. First phase - the deck all arranging its self face down again ( if spread the deck tightly to hide their selected card ) Second phase - spread the deck and Their selected card being only one face-up Third phase - give them their selected card , turn deck face up, and spread to allow them to put their card back in . To reveal that all the reds are together, along with the blacks al together. It's nice easy strolling routine that gets great reactions

I used to "perform" like Peter Turner. I watched his videos and picked out stuff and showed it to friends. Most of the responses were "that's cool". I expected them to lose their minds! I went back and studied/copied it again and still minimal reaction. Why? I wasn't being original. I didn't have my own material and character. He recently said something that changed my way of magic: "Take your skill and turn it into language". Ta Da!
@pagmatic15 күн бұрын
You mentioned the Triumph, etc. and what to do to make it my own. I recently got obsessed with the Cut Deeper Force. Possibly, the easiest trick. I took that and did some variations of other effects: like the Triumph. Imagine me doing a Triumph (with a twist of Open Prediction} based on a Cut Deeper Force. It may not amuse people like I'd expect; BUT I took a plot and made it my own.
