The art Pro VLA II is *not* a tube-based compressor, even though that's how they make it sound it in the big print. It uses a tube in the gain section, yes, but the compressor section itself is a Vactrol optical-electronic circuit.

I have one of these, I upgraded the tubes and it sounds amazing. Also, it's an optical compressor with a tube amplifier, not a tube compressor per se. Optical compression is great, feels very clear and transparent but adds some analog color when driven. My only issue with it is that the knobs are kind of cheap, so the settings don't feel super precise. Thanks for the vid!

I have one but I’m still building my studio and haven’t heard it yet but I like what it sounds like on your drum tracks and the whole mix I was hoping it would sound like that 👌

Last weekend I went to a local shop with the Warm buss comp on my mind. I decided to see what they had in the rental dept and the guy showed me the VLA. I rented it and wow, totally blew me away how good it is. Not sure it’ll make it back to the store. Probably still get the Warm for buss comp work but really liking the VLA for mono track compression.

I had one wish I still had it,but it's not a tube comp it's actually a la2a clone, nice video

I ordered one from Sweetwater and I wondered what it can do because I want a master buss compressor that would give me that controlled and radio ready sound thanks

I have one and I really think I"m going to like it. I've recently moved just after getting it and I'm still setting up my studio. I've tried it on vocals and it seems to do a fine job there.

My first band back in the 80's was called, Sweet Teaz ...

I got one of these units and could not get it to stop buzzing. I tried everything, so I sent it back believing it was defective and ordered another one. Guess what...same problem! This cannot be an isolated case. Either way I popped for a Warm Audio unit instead...and guess what...NO NOISE! Thanks for wasting my time ART!

I know a few people who sold there Avalon's and not rock with the MPA ii .. you can find their stuff in high end studio's

Unlike the Klark Teknic which are pretty much 100% garbage, ART stuff is probably the lowest price stuff that sounds good and it as actually worth the money. Upgrading the tubes brings it to even a higher level of sound.

I recently got one of these and the MPA 2. They exceeded my expectations. I'm tracking everything through them.

I e used this on every source and now I use it on my mix bus. I want a few more of these so I can track thru them too this comp is really good
