I just checked what 1936's $50 (what Hooker promised to spend on his vaudeville girlfriend) was adjusted for inflation. Hooker promised to spend $1,134.87 in today's money. That explains her fluffing off her next performance while also boggling the mind how inflation sneaks up throughout the years.

The funny thing is that this movie is a lot closer to the original story than '2001' is. The original science fiction story was called "The Sentinel". Also, the novelization of 2001 makes more sense than Kubricks movie. I like 2001, but not as much as I like this. I feel Kubrick never liked the original source material for 2001 and so decided to remake it something other, something in his image. It's a visual spectacle, but it's actually pretty shit at story-telling: and this is obviously by design.

NO WAY!" Maybe even get out of your chair, walk away, and come back shaking your head in disbelief. Don't fake, but exaggerate. Give the people a show instead of letting them watch a couch potato. People will be drawn in by the movie, wanting to see how you'll react to the big twist they know is coming and they'll stay and come back for the show you put on. Watch a few reactions with couples. Often there is one person who boldly reacts while the other sits there, quiet and still. Figure out who is more entertaining and draw inspiration from them. Your call. I'm glad you tried. What did you like? What do you consider ok? It retcons decades of lore to push political allegory. To push an agenda. The writing is trash. Sol, a Jedi Master, uses the force and tries to hold up a multi ton bridge from collapsing, instead of just lifting two children? Bleeding a kyber crystal is instant, like a mood ring... Except for the decades of lore detailing the weeks of meditation the Sith must endure, pouring their hatred and anger into the crystal to corrupt it. And you know, Anakin killing children.... somehow wasn't enough to change his lightsaber color. Sith eyes? What happened there? Osha literally instantly bleeds a kyber crystal but doesn't ever gain Sith eyes??? Qimir, a trained Sith Acolyte... no Sith eyes. How? And Qimir, captures Osha and decides to put into the seat that has full control of the starship.... Really? Why? The Jedi Order... That can literally interpret thoughts and feelings can't distinguish between a Sith acolyte and a failed Jedi Padawan. Ummmm?!? Yoda, nor any other Jedi can feel multiple Jedi deaths? How? Why? Why were yhe Jedi Masters collective grass trying to find vergence in the Force. Grass collection and a metal detector? What!? Attraction to the dark side is sexual? Really? Seeing a naked man is enough to abandon all reason and years of experience... For sexual intercourse? Wow. Time jumps... The entire OT had plot points interrupted by travel times between systems. In the Acolyte, all travel is instant. And the Jedi scouting party needed to hire a scent guide to find a hermit Jedi, but the following Jedi instantly finds the scene unassisted. Sure. Great writing. It just makes no sense within itself... As a contained story, unattached to any other media, it is just dumb. Why does Basil change teams? Why didn't Sol explain that Osha's mother turned into a smoke demon and possessed a Jedi? Why can mind reading be literally stated as seeing through lies, but somehow it only works for the plot, as other times those same Jedi believe lies? Why cover up the deaths of Jedi at the hands of the Sith? Why lie and conspire?.... when the council is renowned for reading thoughts? The list is extensive. Its not racism. Its not sexism. Its not gatekeeping. It's just a stupid show that was poorly written. That's why it failed.

Oof .. the phantom menace is severely hurt by that pod racing scene. It's WAY too long. Isn't it like 15 minutes, with over another 15 minutes spent on the buildup and reaction. Don't get me wrong, I understand why it's there, to illustrate Anakin's skill as well as his innate connection to the force. But, yikes it drags on for way too long. Perhaps being 15yo when it was released, made me cynical at the time, but even to this day, I consider it the worst part of the prequel trilogy. However, the duel of the fates is the best light saber fight to date. Absolutely phenomenal choreography. What Disney has done to Star Wars is a travesty and is definitely the most significant franchise decline in history.
@KurticeYZreacts3 ай бұрын
pod racing scene was epic for me, not too long for me either. it actually tears me up a little, cuz he's willing to sacrifice himself at such a young age, possibly just being naïve... but it kind of chokes me up at certain times of the race (as a kid it was just a race scene but as an adult it hits me differently now)
@Matt-4163 ай бұрын
@@KurticeYZreacts I can understand that. There's no shame in it. To be honest, after watching the entire trilogy in the theater... I was disappointed. As a kid that would recreate the Battle of Hoth in snowbanks, and having my first celebrity crush on Leia.. I just didn't care about the politics, and ridiculously abrupt shift that Anakin took to the dark side, I didn't watch the prequels for a decade... Then... A girlfriend gave me the box set for my birthday, and I rewatched them. Awesome films. A whole new appreciation. Structure and story were awesome. They should have been more than 3 movies, as the dramatic shifts are jarring, But.... The Clone Wars filled in a lot of the gaps... Even though that show was far less than stellar.

KZbin's overuse of shadow deletion is absurd. It's clearly automated and triggered by a blacklist of flagged words. Some of which are not questionable or offensive at all. For years now I've found that the best methodology for knowing if your content is left public is to open the comment link in a private tab right after you make it. If it's not in the private tab, it's a shadow. If it's not in activity, it's a full on censored removal.
