Your experience and culture shock would have been vastly different had you moved to Ireland 10 or 15 years it's like comparing 2 different countries. We are far more liberal now and have adopted california style politics

Not everybody. There are plenty of people who are emigrating too. What is "our" culture. How much Irish do you speak, and does it matter? I assume you're not referring to covering you face for Covid. You'd be much happier in England if you're not there already. Murdoch will look after you, like he does for all Irish immigrants. Real Irish people have a welcome for everyone.

@@iano239 A tiny island nation with a distinct unique culture and ethic group is ready “welcome everyone” on an earth of 8 billion people? You can’t just import more people than already live here and expect social cohesion and culture to maintain. You can see the impact of mass migration in property prices and the Dublin riots last year. Who are you trying to fool 🤣 Ireland is on the road to irreversible destruction.

Great video, and apologies in advance for the upcoming negativity! But as someone who has lived in Ireland since birth, Ireland has become super unaffordable for many people. Sure the cost of living crises has pretty much hit everywhere, but over past few years Ireland has secured 1st place in EU, in terms of high cost living proportional to wages. I make almost triple the salary compared to before covid, yet it honestly seems that my disposable income has halved. Grocery prices are only tip if the iceberg - property and utility prices now eat a big chunk of many people's salaries Personally, thinking of emigrating to somewhere a bit cheaper (I work remotely, so it may be an option) Anyway, glad you're enjoying the green Isle 😀

@@squareapples5118 No apologies needed, very valid concerns and important points to bring up!! I know it’s a generalized statement but almost everywhere has their pros and cons (and boy did I notice cost of things increasing in the states too lol, groceries more expensive than Ireland) I could contribute more frustrations about Ireland too 😝 but then I could go on about the states (g** violence, rights being taken away… etc) ah it’s tough 🫤 like I said, you’re concerns are of course valid and I agree/appreciate your comment! I think an important take away, is that we just speak up and use our voices!

It's funny that you called prices in the States "euros" and in Ireland "dollars." Although I never did that thing in particular, when I was in Ireland I always felt mostly American but upon returning to the US, I always felt more Irish. It's as though I have one foot in Ireland and one foot in the U.S. - even now, after so many years. And you've spent TWICE as much time in Ireland as I did. I am surprised that you and your daughter still have an American accent. I detected no sign of the brogue! Based on my experience of Dublin and Cork all those years ago and the few Irish-born people I've known here is that the Irish also seem to be more honest in expressing their feelings. I think that you know pretty quickly whether an Irish person likes you or doesn't, while Americans too often smile to your face and stab you in the back - but maybe that was just the places where I worked and not indicative of Americans sincerety generally. I always love to see the little snips of your house and garden. I remember the ordeal that you had to go through when trying to get a house, but it seems to have worked out perfectly in the end!

@@timward3116 I would joke and laugh that if anyone in America could hear my comments they’d must think I was silly “wow look at all these snack options”…. “Woah a plastic straw!” …. “Oh I forgot about sales tax…” 🤣🤣 cause I don’t have the Irish accent, they can’t tell I’ve been living away lol wish we will pick up the accent but idk 🤷🏼‍♀️ lol Few months back I met someone here in IRL (they actually happened to be from another European country) but they remarked the same you did about Americans potential personality. Hope you’re well Tim! Always enjoy seeing comments from you!

@@mcginnsteph Maybe in a few more years you'll pick it up, but my Tipperary buddy has been here 20 years now and sounds as though he "just stepped off the boat." When I was in Cork, the Irish used to make fun of my American accent but when I would talk with my mom in Phoenix (where we had moved to before I graduated from high school) on the phone, she'd comment about my Irish accent, LOL! On the other hand, the Irish might find your American accent rather endearing. If you sounded like them, they might not find you as interesting! Everybody loves a foreign accent, after all (at least I do). Well, have a great Monday!

I always thought the term master bedroom came from the master or owner of the house? Not from slavery? But then I’m Irish so wouldn’t think of it having any connection with slave masters.
@mcginnsteph
@mcginnsteph 3 ай бұрын
Well “master of the house” just even sounds rooted in the dynamic of slavery tbh. I’ve also seen some videos of people teaching that as the origin anyway; and for me personally, i try to make it a priority to honor the lived experience or perspective of the BIPOC community. Not that hard to just say ‘primary’ just incase it could have an offensive meaning.

@@mcginnsteph Brutal is a mild word for our heat here in Phoenix during the summer. On average, we get 111 days/year of over 100 degrees and in 2023 we had an extra 33 days over 100 (and 54 of them were over 110). So literally almost half the year it gets over 100. Even though it is a dry heat for all but July through September, it's still miserable. It's the difference between baking and boiling. I have such fond memories of Ireland's gray-blanket sky and cold, misty wind on a nice December or January day!
