I'd love to see an update of the all around drivability and drag strip numbers. My friend ran a '68 Camaro with a sbc equipped with Webbers. If the Webbers were tune for the street, it fell on it's face at the track. If he tuned it for the track, it was undriveable on the street.

My brother has a high compression 289. Back in the 70's. In a 65 mustang. Banana yellow factory color. I drove it a few times open header and I GOT ON IT!!! Yes I did. Very impressive horsepower for a motor that starts with a 2-----289

Is actually not difficult at all. You will need a synchronizer, but that's about it. All the linkage allows for easy adjustment.

Completely stripped to frame and rebuilt. Frame and body: American Star extended contol arms Maier body parts DWT A5 Aluminum wheels Tusk racing rotors and brakes Motion Pro cables Engine: Wiseco complete racing crank Vito's 240 cc Blaster Big Bore kit 28mm Mikuni carb VForce reed cage Pro-X clutch kit Vito's Fat Bastard exhaust kit Everything else was factory Yamaha... All new bearings, bushings, seals, bolts, electrical, and hydraulic. About the only thing original on the bike is the engine case, trans gears, frame, steering shaft, and the rear swingarm. The price on OEM parts killed me, but it was well worth it to have it correct. Only thing I really have left is to get a 2" extended rear axle to match the extended front control arms. It was a helluva project, but very happy with the results!

@@williamcohron2380 After reading some comments, we aren't the only ones thinking it sounds like a big cat. Also.....you built this engine?! I'm impressed. If you'll see my avatar, I have a '62 F100. It has an anemic FORD 302 in it. Maybe, something like your bad-ass cougar could go in it. Would that engine make a good daily driver? Edit: You have won a subscriber. I can't get enough of this engine.
@williamcohron2380
@williamcohron2380 3 жыл бұрын
@@RalphSampson... Thanks for the vote of confidence! I appreciate it. The engine was built from the ground up. The only original part was the block. Literally everything else was new, with most parts coming from Summit. The engine would make a good daily driver. It's solid, runs great on 93, and with the T56 trans, it's a monster. However, I would NOT do a 4 Weber setup for a daily driver. They don't have a choke circuit and are temperamental as hell when cold. For an otherwise daily driven street car, I'd probably revert to a single 4 bbl, maybe in the 650 CFM range. It's a good engine and I couldn't be happier with how it runs.

@@williamcohron2380 I know this a rude question but, how much money is invested in that engine? I see crate engine from $3,500 on up. I don't have big dollars right now but, I need to make plans. A race engine is not needed but, 350 to 400 HP would be good and maybe still have decent MPG. I'm just investigating it all, at the moment. I think I'd like to keep it old school with a 4 barrel carb and not fuel injected. I really am at the beginning of the planning stage.

Thanks for posting! Do you still have your fire truck? What are your plans for it? Ours had broken cab lift springs on it and once I had to lift the cab along the highway to fix something. Like a boss managed to lift it and make the repair and get along my way. The springs were replaced and it lifts easy now, I still drive it, it's a farm truck now, started out as a milk tanker to pick up on local farms. Its a 1959 model, at the gas station even yesterday, people come out to ask about it.
