You'll start hearing a small quack or a deep throat kinda honk sound here and there. It varies when their quack starts to develop :-) The boys continue to peep until their big boy voice starts to develop and they are raspy. Pretty much same as other breeds. I'd read in the past beak color can play a factor in telling but it didn't apply to my drakes/ducks so I stuck with the quack method lol

Later on the silver runner duckling chased Buddy for about 5 or so feet... they're learning from the gosling 😆

The black Swedish (we call 'em our penguins) are so funny. They stick together, wander off together, are oblivious together, half the time in their own little Penguin twin world lol

@@nadiamariesky my kids want runners and calls and I'm unsure cause we already have 10 ducks. Also my drakes bicker/feather pull each other so I'm concerned how they would be with calls due to thier size. If they were boys I feel they'd bully them and possibly hurt them and if girls I think they'd hurt them for sure trying to mate them. I'd prob always have to keep them separated from my Pekin drakes.

@@moments955 Runner are super easy to keep but it can be difficult to integrate new ducks to an already establish flock. I have a call duck pair that live inside because they are my show quality calls, and i have another pair that live with my outdoor flock. For the most part they just do their things and get along pretty well with everyone. But you know your ducks better than anyone :) Keeping ducks separated is not easy.

@@nadiamariesky I've integrated new ducks into a flock twice, swedish ducklings with my older Pekins and then a second time when I introduced adult swedish ducks (the Pekins poked at and chased the ducklings but didn't hurt them, this was before the drakes started bickering amongst themselves). Now that the drakes get after each other I'm concerned about introducing a duck that stays small. With ducklings it's only temporary but calls are like a perma-duckling lol. I separate my drakes from my ducks during the night but that's not difficult to do, day time is a bit more of a challenge. So right now if the boys are extra feisty I separate them from the girls for a bit to give them a break and sometimes only let one of them out with the girls at a time. 2 out of the 3 have calmed down a bit though in that regard but two of them still bicker among themselves. So with calls I'm not sure what my game plan would be. They might be okay but not sure if I wanna risk it

She's a mouth that's for sure lol! They often rely on her to be the mouthpiece for the flock

@@moments955 lol 😂 ducks are too funny! Mine refuses to go out at all. It’s been really cold here. I think they prefer our warm cozy garage 😅 spoiled little ones

@@nadiamariesky we had a cold snap too! Single digits some days, I didn't let them out those days. When it was below 20° I let them out depending on different factors like wind, etc. They go out in a hurry but are ready to go in within 15 or so minutes, and if they're not I make them go in. Ours sleep in the garage too :-) They've gone in the water in as low as 14° temps, especially the penguins lol.

Yup! It doesn't bother them much on a nice day. On colder days I let them out as long as they want to be and then they go back in. Often on the colder days they'll only be out for maybe 15-20 and they're ready to go in but I like to get them out as long as it's a reasonable temperature, even if just for a few minutes to get some fresh air.

They definitely do and they do often have a yellow tint to their feathers, the drakes more than my pekin gal. Especially in the warmer seasons when they lose a bunch of their smaller down feathers (not quite a molt, they're not even a year until May) and then they go back to more white. Often they can be more yellow in the face the anywhere else.

They definitely do! She's quite the personality.... The most hands on of all the ducks but bossy to both them and us. She has the biggest mouth and is pretty much the voice box for the whole group. When I walk on the pen for a sec and turn for a sec towards the boys side to give them something she'll bust through between my legs and out the door. She's easy to catch though, i just walk up to her, pick her up and pop her back in the pen... and she gives me a piece of her mind. The swedish girls are more timid but are starting to follow suit and sneak out when my back is turned for a split second. The boys have always been the same but are better behaved and listen if I put up my finger and say no and are not timid when it comes to me.

Thawed frozen peas are best, no preserving ingredients in them, more fresh
