How do we solve the issue of this technology never getting deployed, or so expensive that most armies only buy 1 or two of these things.

If X really wants that extra power, they would design it off of the FH. It needs that extra push, and land the extra push," like FH. Sitting in orbit, waiting for a gas station is going to take months. I did the math and it can work. Lets just wait until test 7. But I know there is a big change on its way. - NOM

A starship will be able to reach other star systems in a reasonable time. There is technology hidden that just might solve that.
@TheLeoFoss2 ай бұрын
Musk's repeated comment that “a future Starship, much larger and more advanced, will travel to other star systems”, is ludicrous and makes one wonder what is going on in his brain. There is no project to "travel to other star systems". Even his statement that his starship will make cities on Mars possible is ludicrous. Establishing a city on Mars won't happen in the next 20 generations for the simple reason that it is too far away. At a constant acceleration of 1 g (Earth gravity), it would take approximately 1 year and 7 hours to reach Mars. So your child on Mars has a medical emergency, and you put that child on a spaceship with 1g acceleration halfway to earth, followed by 1g deceleration, and arrive there no earlier than a year after you left! (Assuming some solution has been found to shield passenger for over a year from cosmic radiation, and with provisions to support life for that duration). Your child is likely to be dead on arrival. And unless you have a completed technological society already on Mars, if you have a medical or technological emergency there (eg, a critical system fails needing a special part, or a medical emergency needing specialized medical equipment), you're going to have to either bring help from earth or take the problem to earth, up to 12 months' travel away. This doesn't take an engineer to realize that our great-great-great grandchildren will not see a city on Mars, and I'm sure Musk realizes this. The justification for the Starship is more linked to near earth and the moon. Improved cell coverage, robotic science on the moon. All this is feasible and can happen. But most of the interaction with Mars will be with AI-controlled robotic instruments. So I think Musk is simply trying to whip up public enthusiasm for what he is doing, regardless if many of his pronouncements about the future are impractical.
