Who reuses towels when you stay at a hotel? I will leave an unused towel on the rack but the ones i use go in a pile on the floor. Im one and done and housekeepung gets a generous tip. Im not home that's the point.

Hi there! You make a good point; Darcy and I are both Americans and I think we were both brought up to think of hotels as this amazing experience where we could do anything since (at least for us) hotels usually meant a vacation, or maybe visiting family. However, since moving to Italy, we’ve realized that while some hotels might be that way (especially Western/upscale hotels) the bulk of them are essentially a family business that offer a place to stay for a night (or two). So when we use too many towels, or ask for new sheets every night, we aren’t harming a big business, but a small family run business that typically survives on narrow margins. In that vein, tipping is extremely generous! However, the housekeepers don’t pay the utility bills (thankfully!) so this can lead to a trickle-down effect of the hotels having to let housekeepers go since they have to choose to pay the housekeepers or the utility bills. A lot of this stems from Italy having artificially-inflated utility prices in order to keep usage down (which is why most Italians heat a single room in the winter rather than the whole house, as is customary in places like America) and Italy having a heavy culture around pensione and caravanseri, which essentially means, the more we can do on our part to help the families keep a business, the less likely they are to sell the business to the conglomerate and who would hike up the prices. After all, most hotel rooms in Italy start at 80-100€ a night, rather than a few hundred dollars in my home city in the US.

The short bungie cords near the top and webbing loops near the bottom are to hold hiking poles. The hidden daisy chains looks like they are meant for another longer bungie cord to criss-cross the front of the bag - to tie things down - like a jacket. These features are pretty common for hiking packs.

I found that they do, however, since I’ve had them for about a year, I’ve found that they do wear looser after a few months. In the past I’ve had shoes with leather components that get tighter (especially when they get wet and dry). Of course, they also do no hassle returns as long as you don’t wear them outside/for too long, so there’s a little piece of mind!

Great question! It isn’t too thick, but it does have a fairly inflexible back, so it can pack down pretty flat, but it can’t roll up.

Man that was an good video review about Teva sandals. I use to wear them back in the early 1990 to 1998 if i remember. I had to stop wearing them because I have big & very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 sz15 6E wide ( which is very very extremely wide ) with very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrow shoes , socks , & boots when I was 18 years old & i outgrow my Teva sandals because my foot got wider than the Teva sandals & the strap would not fit over my foot anymore. The problem i had with my Teva was my footbed was worn out. I had a very nice wide 4 toes Smooth worn out footbed on my sandals. You Could tell that I worn my sandals every single day. Yes my sandals did Stink time to time but I did wash them A lot with my clothes. I still have them to this day. I just wish my feet 🦶 didn't get wider than what they were back in the day. But i still like Teva Even though I can't wear them now but they are still good comfortable sandals to wear for all day. I can only wear flip flops 🩴 which barely & I mean barely fit on my feet 🦶 because my toes are wider than the flip flops 🩴 straps. I am a chubby fat dude with big very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 with very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across & I wish I didn't have extremely wide feet 🦶. It suck sometimes having extremely wide feet 🦶 but my wife love my chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across. She is so lucky since shoes don't fit me so she get to see my feet 🦶 everyday & she is so happy about that too. Good video buddy thanks you for sharing it. I hope you are still wearing yours Teva sandals today cuz they are good sandals man.

Side access pocket probably better for boarding pass, maps, etc. Faster access and separation, aka not losing some paperwork pulling out say a sweater from the top?
@onlyabag
@onlyabag Жыл бұрын
That’s a good point! I have also found that on the larger bag I tend not to use the water bottle holder on the side with the pocket simply because it makes getting into the pocket way more annoying. So it definitely makes me reconsider how much I like having the two water bottle pockets. I’ve definitely found the top pocket to be useful for non-important items like glasses case, notebooks, chargers, etc. rather than a passport or boarding pass, so I think I’m still heavily partial to the top pocket overall!

Thank you sooo much for such thorough reviews on these bags! I am looking for a new school bag and was leaning towards Jansport but I also need a daypack and don't want to buy too many bags haha. I need alllll the details before buying gear and you covered it all! <3

Thank you for your kind words! I’m happy the review is helpful! You know, I really wanted to be able to use a Jansport as a travel bag, partly for that nostalgic feel, but it really has zero support on the back or cross chest, and even the back of the backpack is relatively soft which makes putting a laptop in somewhat difficult. And I’m 100% there with you! One of the main reasons I’m reviewing bags and shoes and stuff is because I wanted as much information as possible before buying it, because I don’t like buying something that has one or two hidden flaws and just trying to make it work. I really appreciate you watching!

Hi there! I bought it in 2020. If I’m not mistaken, they called it “Tawny” but it’s more of a rust/terracotta color in real life. And I think they definitely updated some things. I hope it’s for the better! Looking at the images of the “Recycled 28 Liter Ruckpack” it looks like they took off one of the water bottle holders, changed the airflow for the back, and took away the top pouch. I’m curious to know how it compares!

@@onlyabag No problem, they can be completely repaired. Even if the cork does finally goes bad they can put a new footbed, and when the sole wears down they can add a new one. Some styles like the Kario are discontinued so it would be worth redoing down the road to keep them going. They can reuse the straps.

It’s a little heartbreaking to know they’ve been discontinued, so I’m absolutely going to be doing all I can to keep them going! Have you considered a cobbler? That sole is easily replaced they could probably also add some traction
@onlyabag
@onlyabag Жыл бұрын
That's a great idea! I have actually started to look around for one that can replace it with that rubber crepe sole that typically comes on Clarks shoes. It isn't the MOST rugged, but I think it will make them a fair bit more durable. Plus, the crepe can be cut to the exact size of the sandal, so I wouldn't have to worry about sourcing a perfect fitting sole.

Thank you for the review. I agree with another poster: I think it's pretty good wear for time at 3-4 years and things falling apart after that. I know you have a dream of having one pair last a lifetime, but I don't think that is realistic. Even if you have a really great cobbler who can replace soles, leather and fabric just wears out. It's just the way it is. If you are prepared to pay even more than for Lems you could try a german company (as you are in Italy) called "Manufactum" (they are easy to find online) They specialise in sourcing or creating the most hard living, quality products (hopefully for life) which might help. They are usually super duper expensive. They do have a few Flagship stores in Germany too in case you ever visit. I think those products are extremely hard wearing. Keep in mind "thin and flexible" + "last a lifetime" probably aren't going to go together
@onlyabag
@onlyabag Жыл бұрын
I think I’m far too optimistic when it comes to shoes! I know I’m also really rough on them; I know people who are able to get years from the same pair of shoes I can maybe get one year from. You’re right, it’s definitely not realistic! Thank you for the recommendation! For hiking boots/hard-wearing boots I definitely wouldn’t mind them not being flexible. While it’s nice to have, I’ve come to realize how easy it is to slip and smash my feet into stones. I’ll look into them for sure! (Ideally, I’d love to visit their flagship stores as well. Visiting Germany has long been on my list.) Thank you!

@onlyabag
@onlyabag Жыл бұрын
That’s a bummer! The 18L is a few years old (purchased around 2018/2019) but from the REI site. I just checked and it does seem like they tried to streamline the bag a bit: both this one and the larger ones. Maybe the REI outlet/used website will still have a few? It had remained unchanged for so long, I just assumed they settled on a design. A bit sad to know they cut some of the pockets, especially since it doesn’t have many in the first place.
