One major issue with Philips later work is that his altered Augsberg confession confessed a more sort of reformed Spiritual presence opposed to the Chemnitz's (who was a student of Philip) sacrementsl Union theology, which is closer inline to Luther and Rome than Philips later writings.

"Consubstantiation" is a term that is used all too loosely. You really need to clarify how and what you mean. Consubstantiation does not in itself confess spiritual, local, Heavenly manner of presence, nor is it consistently used through history, often being interchanged with Impanation. Sacremental union is the historical Lutheran term.

Thank you for the video. I'm learning about Lutheran history. It sounds like being a Phillipist is contradictory to being in conformance with the Book of Concord, correct? In other words, to be fully confessional, one must hold to all of the Book of Concord, thus excluding one from a Phillipist view?
@WaterMelon-CatАй бұрын
The entire book of Concord is the subscribed to confessions. Most notably the unaltered version of the Augsberg confession. That being said our confessions allow for a variety of interpretations, debates, and ideas on certain theological matters, all within a broader dogma.

That's a misunderstood interpretation on double predestination. No one is saying God "made" us sin in Adam.

If works don’t matter, doesn’t confession lose its meaning?

I read through some of the council of Trent, specifically but not limited to, how justification and salvation works according to Catholicism. And to be honest, I left after reading with more questions than answers. Statements seemed so vague and contradictory of other statements that I left feeling like much was stated but nothing really got said. They seem to say Salvation is earned through justification and grace that’s only obtainable by faith and works but also that faith and works require grace as a prerequisite but also that you can fall out of grace but still retain faith… it’s so muddied and self contradictory that of course it has to be “infallible” because nobody can clearly argue something that claims to be 100% against itself and 100% in favor of itself. One thing I do know; Paul told us not to rely on our own understanding but to rely on faith. The rest of God’s riches will follow. Amen

The ELCA is no longer a Lutheran church, they have abandoned the Lutheran Confessions, the Bible and embraced a modern social justice agenda in it's place.

Faith without work is death period ....Luther needed corrections , but he gave in to the devil ,and that act till date is the worst hit by the devil to God's church ..... Now today ,look at the products of that madness .....
@sarco6410 ай бұрын
Luther would agree that faith without work is death. He said that we are justified by faith alone, but not by a faith which is alone, that is, by faith which doesn't result in good works. Think about lighting a candle to see. Heat does not enable us to see, but if the candle is not producing heat then it also is not producing the light which enables seeing.

Are the articles considered "sacred?" Maybe it's time to gather together and update them---heretical????
@chadbutz34814 жыл бұрын
Nah they aren't sacred. But they are revered by many. I too think it would be interesting to have an "updated" Book of Concord with all of our "new" understandings. We have a bunch of writings that hint at these changes and they are in various books, but aren't really combined into a nice collection like the Book of Concord is. I would check out this book too: www.augsburgfortress.org/store/productgroup/625/Using-Evangelical-Lutheran-Worship-Vol-2 Its a more modern approach to Baptism and how we can live out our life as Christians. And as far as being heretical, we are heretics due to our Sola Scriptura doctrine, according to the Roman Catholic Church. So in my opinion, I don't think we need to worry too much about possible "heresies" that we may encounter through a thoughtful re-look at our core beliefs.
