I really like your style, sounds very authentic. It's clear you know what you're talking about, it's not just "another dry roguelikes essay". Randomness, progression and replayability are definitely core feature of roguelikes. And I agree with you: the fact that indie studios have limited resources is a strength: this push devs to try something new and gifted us with gems like Hades, Slay the Spire, Dome Keeper. Congrats for this work, you definitely deserve a bigger audience! I subscribed to you in the meanwhile 😃 I hope that I can reach a similar spot in the future with my channel, one step at a time 😊 Little note: i'd suggest to you to add in the description the list of games shown with Steam link 😉

The much more detailed comment than mine is more useful, but just a bit of two-cents on why I think you really underrate compile in particular. I don’t know if you do this, but one thing that helped me understand draw effects and their usefulness a bit more is thinking of a card that doesn’t draw as -1 draw (i.e. you have to give up drawing another card to draw it). Looking at it this way, compile driver is deal 7 damage and (usually in early game) draw zero (it replaces itself). When you think about how important cycling your deck is after your first few card rewards (you wanna get back to your ball lightning/cold snap/beam cell ASAP) , this is SO important and I think you undervalue it a lot. If you have any source of other orbs this becomes one of the most powerful common attacks in the game, and you seem to value 0 cost cards a lot which makes this even better. Even if compile is the last card you draw, if you have any orbs up, it gives you the chance to shuffle the discard pile without the crap strikes and defends you have in your hand - this alone could save your run against gremlin nob. For common attacks I think you probably also undervalue cold snap, a lot of enemies deal 12 or 7 damage and cold snap can be the difference for quite a lot of chip damage through a run, but I probably undervalue cold snap too so I feel less passionate about this one). Overall the video is great though, good to see insight from someone like me who isn’t a complete genius in this game, shows the depth and complexity of it in a different way.

Yeah, I agree about reframing draw effects. Very important to not get confused and thing that cards that only draw 1 card are helping you draw more cards, but they are refunding themselves!
@xtreme2g
@xtreme2g Ай бұрын
This is one of the concepts that I understand on the surface but have yet to fully master it with the cards and relics themselves. I always think about it when i take cards but usually my decisions within fights don't reflect my intention to cycle the deck or anything like that. There's also the temptation to see compile driver as taking up a slot in my deck I'd rather reserve for a card I value more, but you're right in that over the course of a fight, especially with different orb types, compile driver definitely pays for itself. Cheers for the comment, I'll try keep this concept in mind more often

Ok, comments from watching your latest run from Twitch ( www.twitch.tv/videos/2248265639 ). You play very fast. Maybe slow down a little? - Floor 1: You took 7 dmg from Jaw Worm, when you could've gotten away with only 2, IMO. - Floor 1: I would've picked Sweeping Beam over Cold Snap - Floor 2: You took an extra 1 dmg from cultist for absolutely no reason, you gotta catch those if you wanna beat A20H. You had guaranteed 10 block next turn, but you played an extra strike on auto-pilot and took 1, then you drew an out and got the kill. - Floor 3: You removed Defend over Strike! Crazy! Defect does very well with Strikes removed instead of Defends. - Floor 7: you miss scaling the Genetic for absolutely no reason. This is another just straight up mistake. Like, not a tricky judgement call, just a suboptimal play that you missed. - Floor 10: you only saved 4 with that potion, not very efficient. Predictable b/c of Horn Cleat. I would call that a bad call on your part. - Floor 10: killed the wrong grey slime with Streamline the second time, didn't end up mattering. - Floor 11: missed Hologram => Streamline, which seems much better than Coolheaded => Genetic. ...moments later: "we need some dmg on him" and I'm like "yeah, because you missed the streamline!" I think you took an extra 5 or so here. - Floor 11: I would never have picked All for One here. 0 times out of 10. It literally gets nothing back until you've played Streamline twice. - Floor 13: you draw two strikes and no block and say "this turn is going to suck" => yeah, because you removed a defend earlier! - Floor 13: Fusion is really good with gold-plated cables. Did you notice that and skip it or did you rush past? - Floor 14 pathing: you have a smoke bomb, you could've checked to see if the burning elite had an irrelevant modifier, like plus-strength-laga. Still, maybe better to skip. - Floor 14: missed playing genetic for no reason. - Floor 16: turn 1: should've played All for One + Strike over Strike+Strike for 4 more dmg. - Floor 16: with loop + defrag + frost, you could've set up to be extremely safe against the Boss, you didn't need to take so much damage to win that fight.There are several turns where you take an extra 4-5 for no good reason. Should've played the fight more patiently. - Floor 17: I would've taken Fusion Hammer over Bell. You got *great* relics though... - Floor 19: Another Defend removal! Crazy pt 2.Strikes are so bad... - Floor 21: You snap picked The Bomb over Madness, but Madness works with All for One. Did you consider that? - Floor 21: also, you had electro against birds, my guess is that that potion didn't actually save you much health. - Floor 22: you missed Holo => Defrag, which was better than playing Zap. - Floor 22: you see that you don't have lethal, "he's on 3 hp", but then you play an insanely aggro line instead of just calmly blocking. You took 2 here for no reason. You should've played defend+defend+loop. - Floor 22: you play a strike over zap when the zap would've done much more damage because of gold-plated cables. Didn't end up mattering. - Floor 22: second Holo was pretty good here, might save you an upgrade later. - Floor 23: Turn two against Slavers, you play Coolheaded+Electro instead of Electro+Coolheaded, over blocked by 10 and missing out on 6 dmg to all. Also, it made it harder for you to block on the next turn. - Floor 23: I would've taken either Compile Driver or maybe Recycle, not skipped here. - Floor 25 turn one: defend, coolheaded, dualcast full blocks and saves you the buffer charge. Would've worked really well with Horn Cleat. - Floor 25 turn two: you play hologram for no reason. - Floor 28: here you can see the cost of missing a couple Genetic stacks because you have to play an extra defend instead of zap. - Another reason you shouldn't miss a single Genetic stack is that you have Calipers, so extra block is always good. - Floor 30: you misplay turn 4, taking 5 extra damage for no reason. - Floor 30: pretty late for a charge battery. I would've skipped there. - Floor 31: complete waste of gamblers brew, you already were full blocking and could've just played defrag+cold snap or defrag+Streamline. - Floor 32: I would've upgraded not rested here. Collector should be easy for your deck, you've got electro and great setup. You didn't need the HP. - Floor 33: "we cannot block the 21 no matter what" => Not true, coolheaded might draw an out. - Floor 33: turn 6, you could've thrown the explosive potion to save 20 hp there - Floor 33: Biased Cog > Core Surge >>> Reboot. Reboot is probably worse than skip here. It would be crazy to pick it. - Floor 34: Runic Pyramid is great, but it's a lot better with 4 energy. Imagine if you had taken Fusion Hammer earlier... It also plays quite badly with Curse of the Bell. - Floor 36: Dupe defrag was better, IMO, but at least you removed a Strike this time. - Missed which floor: rebound was a mistake here. - Floor 38: you clicked the double orb walkers fight SO FAST. Nuts. That's one of the toughest fights in the game and shouldn't be an auto-click by any means. - Floor 38: you played an extra defend for no reason, it still consumed the buffer charge and you could've played a strike (at least) instead. - Floor 38: you did indeed misplay that fight. It's a tough fight. My overall take: your card picks are pretty good, but you misplay a lot. I recommend slowing down for a few runs and trying to avoid all the straight up errors.

I'm not *way* better than you by any stretch, but I've beaten A20H back-to-back with defect at least once or twice. So, take all this with the relevant grain of salt. You overrate Ball Lightning. Def shouldn't be a snap pick. Probably every card you think is a snap pick isn't a snap pick. It's only 1 more targeted dmg than a strike and targeted damage is really important. Ball Lightning is not obviously better than streamline, for example, to me. Claw is bad. Stop thinking of "claw" decks. Claw is *very occasionally* a scaling solution, but maybe the worst card in the card pool most of the time. Definitely not a good card to add floor 1. I would probably skip over adding a claw floor one. You're right that to make it good you have to force your own hand, that's the kind of thing that will tank your win rate. You gotta be able to go with the flow and never force a build. You overrate Charge Battery too. Auto-shields is (usually) better. Reinforced Body is (usually) better. On the turn you play it, it's worse than defend+. Cold Snap vs Ball Lightning: BL is better early, CS is better later. If you're getting stuck on A19 or A20 or heart, then it's probably because you're building too much for the early game and not building enough that can scale into the late game. Instead of "I pick BL over CS almost every time" you should think "Do I need damage right now for Gremlin Nobb or Act 1 boss?" and then only take BL if you need dmg. Channel one frost is somewhere between "play metallicize" and "play defend". Compile Driver is the best draw that Defect has at Common rarity. I've seen winning A20H decks with three copies of CD as the draw solution. You aren't going to win without draw somehow, and CD is a pretty good way to get it in many cases (given sufficient orb types, ofc). Go for the Eyes: I think I take this more than any of the other zero cost attacks. Perhaps I should take Beam Cell more than Go for the Eyes though, I'm not sure. Between upgrade Hologram and upgrade Streamline, I would almost always upgrade Streamline. That's an easy call for me. If it's late game and I have a Streamline- in my deck, then something went wrong. You can substitute upgrading Hologram by taking more copies of Hologram. It is very good. My guess is you over-pick leap. (I should watch a run of yours...) Hearing you talk about recursion, I think you might over-value zero cost things in general, I'm not sure why... Yeah, Stack is bad usually. It does play better with hologram (and more card draw, which you admit you probably under-value).You simply don't play it if it's early in the cycle. Stack doesn't play well with powers, since they don't go to the discard pile. I have never actually seen Steam Barrier get to zero block. I have a feeling that your fights are going super long for some reason. The *second* play of steam barrier is better than a defend (b/c cheaper). The first play is obviously better. Sweeping Beam is indeed solid, but it's crazy to think it's good by the point you get to Donu Deca. You would need to play Sweeping Beam+ THIRTY times, not counting block, to kill those two. Sure it chips in, but that's never going to be a good damage plan for late game. Turbo and Hologram is another synergy that's really important. One thing: you can Holo the void, another, it makes every following Hologram into +1 energy for the first deck cycle. Auto-shields is really good, but it also has a great upgrade. Blizzard can totally win runs, but it's rare-ish. Doom and Gloom is really, really good. Definitely the best source of Dark orbs (over Darkness and Chaos). I suspect you under-value it. Turbo is almost always better than Double Energy. DE is much more situational, IMO. It is good with multi-cast sometimes, or to get down an Echo Form in a pinch. Right on the money with Equilibrium. That card is very strong. FTL makes your draw worse, not better. It's either card-neutral or card-negative. It never helps you draw your deck more quickly. Fusion: If you're always whipping orbs around, then Dark orbs and Plasma orbs are going to be under-used (and capacitor). I think there's an archetype that you're missing out on here. Genetic: you can take this as late as mid Act 3 if you have Echo Form. The most important question, IMO, isn't is it early in the run, it's "can I survive the next 3-4 fights with a very weak card in my deck / a curse?" Glacier is fantastic. Heatsinks: yeah, obviously not a good pick with no other powers, but it's a very very strong card draw engine. I definitely wouldn't say it's on the weaker side of the powers pool, more like a-tier power or s-tier if well supported. Hello World: yes, this card is very hateable, but good for Act 1 boss fights and Sentries and generally just a source of draw in a pinch. I don't like using it, but I take it when I "should" if I'm playing on A20. Melter is very strong early game. More targeted damage than Ball Lightning! I think you're right about Overclock and still wrong about Turbo. The void is ethereal, the burn is not. Also, Turbo is +2/+3 energy, Overclock is +1/+2 draw, after accounting for itself. Quite situational card. Overclock+ is very substantially better than Overclock, because it's basically a +100% upgrade, netting you 2 cards instead of 1. Overclock is definitely another card that I don't like aesthetically and only take when I have to. Recycle is probably a little better than you think. Reinforced Body is indeed great. I think Static Discharge is more conditional than you seem to think. It's a rare deck that really can use it well, IMO. Storm and Heatsinks are an archetype for sure. I don't think you should pick Storm as your second power. More like fourth+, IMO. Act 1 Sunder/Sunder+ is a thing of beauty. Biased, Buffer, Core Surge: yes yes yes. Yeah, Creative AI drags in Act 2 for sure. Better for Champ or Act 3. Echo Form upgrade is really not worth. I almost never upgrade it. Either you must play it, in which case you're going to play it first time, or you can get away without it and your upgrades are better spent elsewhere. This is the single piece of advice I'm most sure you're wrong about. Stop upgrading Echo Form. Turbo enables Meteor Strike, Recycle enables Meteor Strike, Fusion enables Meteor Strike. It is best with Snecko, but it's really strong if you can play it in other ways too. Multicast is really great with Dark orbs, ofc. I still think you're a little weak on this archetype, so it makes sense that you haven't seen it shine. It's also a reusable double energy with plasma. It's also really good with Echo Form. Echo Form => plasma, dark => double play multicast is insane damage, for example. Rainbow is not typically a good upgrade, certainly not something I would call an upgrade target. Quite situational that I would upgrade it. Reboot is NOT like a gambling chip! It reshuffles your discard pile, which makes it take a lot longer to get to your important powers. The first deck cycle is a very important thing, and reboot messes with that, making it a pretty tricky card to use well. I often skip it even against nothing else good. It gives you a better turn, yes, but a worse next few turns in many cases. Seek is maybe the best card in the game. Yes, you need *something* to seek for, but the consistency effects of having a Seek are insane. It's a tough call for me even up against Electro or Biased Cog. Seek makes it less than half as likely that you'll bottom-deck an important card. That said, if I look at my deck and say "I really need a card with output" then I can't take a seek over something that actually helps solve the problem. Thunder Strike: the condition isn't "am I generating a lot of lightning" it's really "am I generating a middling amount of lightning". If you're generating a lot already, then it's a win-more card, and YAGNI. You only need it in a particular sweet spot where you can't quite finish the job. Maybe you're running storm and tempest and you're worried about facing Giant Head soon. Most of your takes are solid. You're obviously a strong player. I really liked the video, I'm going to go watch one of your runs now! Cheers!

Hey, never in a million years did I expect a response as detailed and thorough as this and I'll respond to both of your comments here instead of replying to both. First of all, thank you! You dedicated some time out of your day to help me and that's time I'm appreciative you spent. Absolute legend Secondly, you're bang on the money that I play too fast, you're also bang on most of the mistakes that I make. Some are from lack of knowledge but most are from playing to quickly. The run you looked at was fresh in my head so a lot of what you mentioned I immediately knew what you were talking about. It is also strange that I was removing defends when a few streams ago I was telling someone that removing strikes on Defect is better. I dont know what the fuck happened but I guess that's proof I lost my way lmao. I also OFTEN play aggressively, I have this notion in my head that lots of fights are damage races and by sacrificing some HP on this turn, it'll save me much more HP later on in the fight. Thats obviously on the case for some fights and I really need to lock in which fights that mentality works for and which it doesnt. You also pointed out a lot of times where I didn't take into account relic synergies (negative or positive) which is something i definitely need to be more aware of. If I just stop and look at what I have every single turn them im far less likely to forget synergies. You raised a good point with that. Then when it comes to my card opinions: I'm glad to see im right about some things and wrong about others, I was hoping to be proved wrong and you did just that. This is a comment I will come back too and remind myself the power and utility of a lot of cards. I think my takes on cards were very extremist, like one side of the spectrum or the other (good/bad). I failed to recognise that a lot of them have more or less value than I thought and oftentimes the choice isn't black or white. Also I had the suspicion about FTL but i guess i valued the damage more than I should. youre awesome for taking this amount of time, hopefully when i tackle it on stream next it goes better.

@john68157 Ай бұрын
@@xtreme2g Most fights ARE damage races, but a couple enemies only scale in some situations rather than all situations. Two examples from that run: 1) Centurion and Mystic only scale when the Mystic buffs their strength, which she can't do if she's forced to heal instead. She must use heal if there's 21 or greater HP missing from both, though I think she can only heal twice in a row. 2) Gremlin Leader only scales by buffing strength also, and Gremlin Leader is much more likely to Summon if more of the minions are dead, so that fight can be managed by choosing when to kill the minions. That fight is actually one of my favorites in the game for how strategic it is! Forgetting relics: I think the one relic you misplayed the most in that run was Gold Plated Cables, which is fair because it's one of the hardest to play well! I conceptualize it as my right-most orb slot counting double, and that changes so much of the math! One of the coolest things about Slay the Spire is that I don't think there are any cards that are always good or always bad. No snap picks and no snap ignores. Same goes for events. Yes, it's often correct to fight the boss from act 1 during Mind Bloom, but sometimes it's right to take 999 gold, sometimes it's right to choose upgrade all. It's like the game is constantly keeping me on my toes. I had a great time watching this video and the run. I'm glad you posted

I can could deal with the loot rarity (though I agree) and any other of the game’s faults but Borderlands 3 stinks of Pitchford. Reeks of Randy. The pathetic writing is super reminiscent of Randy’s “Har har har senõr” copulating rabbit in Duke Nukem. I can clearly hear Randy laughing and directing the writers to “keep it up” as clearly as I can smell the crusty thumb drives full of porn in his pockets. Borderlands3 was the best feeling shooting mechanics of the series, almost Bungie-level gun feel, but it’s covered in a thick, stinking Randy P slime. Witnessed grabbing ex employees by the throat in hotel lobbies, denying his devs their bonuses while paying them dirt, embezzling money from Duke and Aliens, all a matter of public record and clearly describes him as a truly foul man who befouls everything he touches even the 1 single success he lucked upon. With even averagely bad writing this game would have been elevated to legendary but the thick coating of awfulness is too awful. The fact this Saturday morning cartoon villain of a man is allowed to persist in this industry shows our priorities as a society are all wrong.

Cuz when i go to avatar change my pc just crashes ( it won't crash the game ) i get around 1-3 FPS there😂 but when game i get 60-70 and it's still playable than 1-3 FPS Others i would do is to make the editor a bit... @@xtreme2g Fully agree. We're still able to play the s&box mode as well, it needs it's updates and fixes but once it gets there (and it'll get there quick) it'll be way better than gmod. Porting a model over alone is 10x faster. And being able to play from the dev kit online?!?! Fuck that's gonna be amazing

Idk why but borderlands 3 stuck more with me, and I've played it more frequently. BL2 was really good to play as well, but I haven't had much reason to go back to it 🤷. I've bought the dlcs for it recently so I might get back into it

Borderlands 3 just wasn't for me, and I played/loved the first and second game. A shame really :(

Its kinda crazy how many people still play 2 over 3 even tho 3 does so much right. Shows that BL3 got the important shit wrong. Replayability is the one thing I think they butchered.

Awesome video. As someone that only put a lot of hours into BL2 and never really got into BL3, this was a very insightful watch!

Warframe is the gamings best kept secret

Warframe is the best game that we can't tell you why it's the best game. Telling someone that the first 200-300 hours is basically the tutorial and also convincing them that it's 100% worth it without being able to tell them exactly why it's worth it, it's a challenge...

There is a few things I no longer like about warframe regarding the lore. But the game itself is just amazing, would recomend to anyone.

I played Warframe in 2016 on my PS4 but for some reason, I stopped, and don't know why. I'm now playing again on my Xbox Series X to start over again just to see how different the game is in 2024. I found my love for this game again.

Wake up, Tenno. Hope everyone here tries this amazing game. You are all welcome in the community ❤❤❤ and thinking Warframe wasn't getting picked up by most publisher for being too 'futuristic' I am super happy that DigitalExtreme has them and that they didnt fall into any of these greedy af corporations like EA or SONY.

I dropped warframe about 2 years ago and I've been seeing a bunch of videos recommended to me of people joining it for the first time and gushing about it and damn, it's making it hard to resist to go back... And then I remember the end-game :/

Great Video! Have you tried Death must die? Its like vampire survivors but has this more Dark fantasy and gritty feel with diablo style loot management. I think you might like it as recently they released the 2nd act and adding more content!
