Good vid. Also covers really well as techique, even though not mentioned, that braking efficiency is pretty much only about making that braking load so-to-say controlled so pressure (=traction) on wheels doesn't change abruptly from very sudden weight change.

@2:20, Bret... then Aprilia is breaking the law (what law?) you're citing with the Tuareg 660. It stays in off-road or individual mode, with TC/ABS/etc disabled or tuned to your spec in those two profiles. But I am 100% certain my Tuareg keeps ABS turned off if I kill the bike and take out the key while in one of those two modes, then turn it back on. I used to own a 2013 800XC... does the rake still suck on this new model (I was a new adv rider when I bought the 800XC)? My understanding is the 900 series you have to dismount and crank down the rear preload to get an offroad bias rake. And does servicing the air filter still involve dismantling half a dozen pieces of body plastics and the gas tank? Or did they pull their heads out of their asses and put it under the seat and make it more accessible?

Just got myself first big adv. Older Super Tenere 1st gen. First of all I've heard/watched tons of vids about how crucial it is to be able to deactivate ABS. Note this is my first ever ABS bike. I was almost scared when I rode it first time to gravel and I was testing brakes from really and I do mean safe speeds and distances expecting bike to just keep rolling on like riding on marbles. But the very first brake I was like "Ok, that's not bad at all and doesn't feel scary at all". Now I haven't rode this bike much at all on gravel and I'll keep my cautious approach, but still right now I have feeling that even that older ABS is much safer and still removes speed well. But all in all, I've ran into multiple "oops, it's getting close" feelings rear or even frontend sliding bit too much on my old non-ABS XT600e, even though that bike is really easy to ride. My next "field trip" with ST is going to be finding some nearby gravel road stretch that is hard packed, but which would still have that fine round, slippery as hell, small round rock layer and really test if it ABS on that bike hinder braking. On what might add safety. Well now mostly ridden in tarmac with it. I think cruise would increase safety a bit. If I'm thinking that it would now be nice, I think it obviously means I'm putting some focus into thinking that. Oh and loud pipes save lives is absolute total BS. Why? Cause as driving my car I almost crashed into one loud bike with rider wearing hi-vis clothing etc. So how the heck that almost happened? I approached intersection and do note that I DO watch like min. three times to side already approaching intersection. I saw nothing, but when I started to roll into intersection bike appeared and avoided collision just like meter two away. Bike just simply remained the complete time approaching behind my cars A-pillar. Always remember that on bike, that you can and you WILL fit there. Look to see if you can actually see car driver. If not, be very cautious.

Seems like one could start by taking larger U-Turns and then progress to smaller U-Turns. Why is this not emphasized when teaching how to do U-Turns? Seems like most instructional videos teach how to take those tight U-turns but never mention to start large and gradually tighten your U-Turn as you feel more confident. It might also prevent one from laying their bike over. It's a great instructional video though. Probably the best one I've seen.

It can be easier to understand if you look at it backwards. As your come out of a turn, you can apply more throttle as you unlean the bike or unwind a car's wheel. That is because you can only ask so much of your tire(s). Same with cars, there is only so much grip your tires have. Trailing the brakes is used to keep the front springs compressed which sharpens your turn.. the more you add steering input, the more you have to trail off the brakes. As you unlean the bike or unwind a steering wheel, you can start applying throttle.

I've always had jap bikes. They're really great. But I was in one shop few months ago that had CFmoto's 700cc, can't recall exact model, but anyway adv bike. I looked few minutes while waiting it very closely and I gotta say I got really impressed in visual quality of that bike. I've seen older Chinese vehicles and they're usually quite bad even new aestethically. But that CFmoto truthfully got me really curious about the brand. I just bought Yamaha bike, but I'd still like to test ride that model and I'm _really_ curious how they will fare in long run and what is the part availability.

KZbin Motorcyclists be like trying to school me to hold the handlebars lightly so the front wheel can find it's own way and recover from a wobble. I've taken out three wooden construction horses in a row on an interstate at 65mph when I started going blind, you can be sure I'm holding on to those handlebars tight with a deathgrip to stay on the bike. I have no problem with it. Been riding for 25 years as my daily driver. And no, you don't need to cover the clutch and the brake with two fingers all the friggin time. Your hands will get even more tired doing that than a deathgrip. You're having to do these extreme measures because you're driving in dangerous roads unsuitable for travel and dodging things all the frigging time and starting and stopping all the time... so.. shrug, yeah, in that scenario, maybe I would too. Or, I mean, you could just take a paved road and enjoy a smooth ride...

I am currently training myself due to upgrading to a Tiger 900 Rally Pro and your videos are really helpful as the Bike is kinda too much bike when I first tried it and after a few weeks of training using your vids, It does not feel like too big of a bike anymore. In fact it feels just right.

There is a "recall" in Europe for the 10 cm fuel tube. That is why your moto does not start. Here in Greece, if you report the problem to a dealer, they change it free of charge. That is why the recall was on quotes. I do have a X-Cape, I got a Seiemezzo, but they are the same regarding this issue.

But what about the most important question - Can I tuck my trouser's leg inside the boot, or leave it outside? If I go with all the hassle of spending on those cool motocross boots, and learning to use the properly, can I at least show off? :D (A bit tongue in cheek, but question still stands ;))

Never ridden one but apparently too top heavy, ( like GS 900) too heavy in general and you have to take the fuel tank off to change the air filter. Plus, you're paying the extra Ducati tax for the name, if you buy new and the ridiculous servicing costs. Daft.

I was a bike messenger for many years. The move is the same on a bicycle. It is more efficient than mounting by throwing a leg over and then moving forward AND it definitely looks cooler to roll up to a coffee cart with a smooth ass "cowboy" dismount! 😂

6’ 7” an an AT. Thanks for great tips. I don’t get the windshield comments. I’ve changed to the higher oem windshield and it has improved wind deflection. How does ‘cutting the windshield down’ reduce air turbulence? (Note that I understand that a higher windshield can cause injury).

It looks like we are similar size and shape. Could you give the Back Sweep, Width and Height of your Flexx handlebars. I have maxed out all adjustments of OEM and still need a little more. Also did the normal BarkBuster kit for BMW work on the Flexx handlebars or did you have to go with a different part #? Thanks for putting out so much great information.

Congratulations. It's the best analysis I've seen so far. A question: is there a difference in the analysis with cold and hot tires? or Can you do the same test on tire operating temperatures ? I believe that your measurements will have different and maybe overturn the result.

I think Chinese manufacturers and engineers have reached and in certain aspects have exceeded the base level of traditional brands. I am personally can't wait when chinese Kove 800x Rally becomes available because I am dreaming of replacing my DR650 to the similar (weight wise) bike with a twin. Sadly none of the traditional brands care to produce a truly lightweight adventure bike (or a big dual sport with a twin).

No Gaerne boots? One of the best, if not the best boot makers and still manufactured in Italy. I’ve run SG10 and Fastback Endurance Enduro Boots. Not sure why this guy says to remove the metal tips on these types of boots. Not good to compromise structural integrity. If you’re concerned about slipping, just add some skateboard grip tape to the metal and move on.
