@Knowledgeefficient
@Knowledgeefficient Ай бұрын
@@arslanmalik-o3l First you’ll need to pick a program and make sure that you have all requirements needed for that program. Then you submit an application on WGU’s website. Sometimes throughout the year their application fee will be waived. For me, as soon as I submitted an application I received a phone call from the WGU admissions office. We set up an appointment for an interview with an enrollment counselor. At that appointment they interviewed me for the program and I was accepted. After that I was assigned an enrollment counselor and she helped me make sure I had all of the details for admissions taken care of, such as a start date, transcripts from other schools, financial aid, proof of identity and other documents. Once I had everything submitted I was assigned a mentor for my program.

It's irresponsible and hideous. All my coworkers who've gone through it would never go back again. Mentors and Teachers don't do their jobs, have attitudes beyond imagining and act entitled. I'm a 4.0 Honors Student of 2 prior schools and this place has done so much shit to me it's unreal... I've had faculty not do their jobs, lie to me, coerce me into doing side-work that actually pins blame on the student so that if you take them to court in the future... they can pull that out and say you were 'Unprofessional' and 'Unethical' and all that horseshit. The depts. don't even collaborate and they don't and WONT handle anything for you... everything is dumped on you. You Mentor's responsibilities, will become yours. Many of their staff are given degrees then given jobs their to make them look legitimate.. if you literally work with those people like Teachers and Mentors they don't know much of anything and they do not like returning mail and answering questions half the time. WGU wants you to drop all your money into them and then they close the trap on you. I've filed formal complaints asking for help and they ignore them all... basic things like asking for replies to emails and communication. I went to the BBB and reported them... all of a sudden they start to care! MAGICALLY... they're literally ruining my financial aid right now having me on endless term breaks, holding my degree plan hostage... they are deceptive and lazy and no one cares. My Observational Site teachers were never contacted by them... they don't work. There are better schools now with online programs, let this place go under. I'm currently working with a legal team concerning my plethora of issues. By the way, their staff aren't beneath yelling at you over the phone or even in an email, unprovoked, because they don't want to work with you outside of the lazy system they've set up, or they just feel like they have power and control over you. Being cordial with them and honest does not work either, I've been that way the entire time and they take full advantage of you.

Did you also schedule meetings with instructors regularly? It seems like instructors would be helpful to speak with since they are knowledgeable in the subject matter vs. Mentors who are more knowledgeable about the WGU process, is that correct?
@Knowledgeefficient
@Knowledgeefficient 2 ай бұрын
@@ApartmentC6 I met with an instructor once, and it was when I didn’t pass an OA exam. Him and I reviewed key concepts and I was given additional assignments to complete before attempting the OA exam a second time. It was very beneficial, however I felt for all my other classes it was unnecessary to meet with instructors since I grasped the content pretty well. It was very motivating for my mentor to call me every week to check in on me.

Great advice! Though I’m a bit nervous to return back to school, let alone an “online” university college model. This is still better than going onsite on campus and way more affordable in terms of tuition/gas/wear and tear(car)/time. My question is are these mentors really strict or push you to complete your college work? I know there’s no time limit but you have to keep up with class. I’d like to have a bachelors it’s something I always felt left out in my mind. Formal degrees nowadays are not exactly necessary to get good jobs but it’s something I like to have to get passed the HR phase.
@Knowledgeefficient

@@corpuzone this university is perfect to “check the box” for holding a degree. Because of WGU I was able to get a promotion at work. The mentors are not strict necessarily, they just check up on you weekly to make sure you’re doing well. Also, in case you don’t like your mentor you can always request a new one.

I am a current WGU student in my second term. Another pro about them is that they include industry certifications with their degree programs. Other colleges basically get you ready to take the certification exams, but they are not included in the tuition. You have to take them separately and pay for the exams. In the school of information, technology certifications are included for every degree such as Cisco, CompTIA, AWS, Azure among others. And yet another pro is all the additional resources that the college offers. It depends on your degree program what resources are available, But they offer other learning platforms to use such as Udemy, Pluralsight, and others for IT. There are also things that all students can use such as career services that offer various workshops for helping you with all kinds of things from interviewing to resumes and others. Tutoring services, the handshake platform is a great resource for jobhunting and networking with different companies. There is an awesome audio series with a huge catalog of topics and many more things that people never talk about because a lot of students don’t take advantage of all these great services.

@@wanderlust2053 While graduating from a CEPH accredited university is a common pathway to becoming an epidemiologist, it is not the only way. Many epidemiologists have degrees from non-CEPH accredited programs, though they might need to demonstrate their expertise through experience, certifications, or additional training. Some positions may also require certification from professional organizations like the Board of Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) or the American College of Epidemiology.

@@wanderlust2053 here’s just a little part from my article: “WGU's MPH program is not accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), which may pose an issue for some depending on your goals. But here's why you shouldn't worry: A massive reason for WGU's existence is to help those with experience in their field check all the boxes and meet the requirements for job positions and certifications. The primary reason WGU’s program lacks CEPH accreditation is the absence of a clinical component, which is a key requirement for CEPH-accredited programs. Keep in mind that most MPH graduates from CEPH-accredited programs use this accreditation to apply for the CPH exam to become Certified in Public Health and apply for other public health certifications (CHES, MCHES). However, going to WGU does not preclude you from pursuing these respected certifications in the field of public health. When combined with experience, graduates of WGU’s MPH program are completely eligible to take the exam for these certifications! CPH is one of the highest certifications you can receive in public health. There are 2 ways to become eligible for the CPH exam without CEPH accreditation”

I think the reason WGU’s legitimacy is called into question is due to flat out gate keeping. In the past if somebody grew up lower class, had a family, did poorly in high school, or had to work a full time job they did not have the option to go to college. Attending college for a long time was an exclusive opportunity solely for those of the upper class. Now people with less fortunate backgrounds have the opportunity to earn the same credentials as privileged individuals and a lot of them hate having more competition. I saw the same thing about 5 or so years ago with some college students from privileged backgrounds complaining about enlisted service members attending competitive programs and even prestigious programs for free via the GI Bill since most enlisted service members do not come from privileged backgrounds. They said that they think that enlisted service members should only be allowed to earn trades.
