Wow! What a collection and a Les Paul Deluxe on show also. A Goldtop Les Paul Deluxe 2:04s was the first ever Gibson that I ever set my eyes upon. I saw it in the musical instrument shop owned by the late John Ham, he was the brother of sadly departed ‘Badfinger’ member Pete Ham. Being a kid of the 1970’s I was awestruck viewing all the high-end kit on show, because it’s what my musical hero’s played when on TOTP’s and Old Grey Whistle Test. John Ham was an absolute gentleman, because he allowed kids like myself to browse through his shop despite the fact that I would struggle to even afford a few plectrums with my pocket money of the time. I was thrown out of 'Duck Son And Pinker' despite being well behaved. All these years later I now (with passage of time and maturity) fully understand the worry of shop owners having their expensive stock being damaged by excited and careless young hands. That sort of hits home how kind a person John Ham was!

Thank you, I often think they are too good a set of guitars for the player I am, but they do entice me to play more which is a good thing! The Deluxe is absolutely flawless, like it just rolled out the factory back in 1974. Got amazingly low action too. I think one of my faves is the 30th Anniversary Gold Top, the Tim Shaw pickups in that are a unique sound, quite compressed and nice and fuzzy. Also the 25/50 has a very different tone to a typical Les Paul, it's very dark sounding with monster sustain that just goes on forever, weight 11lbs though!

Brilliant performance. Am I right to presume that the guitar on show here is a Les Paul Standard? What is the finish? Did it come with a pickguard?
@rodeoruz2 күн бұрын
@@squicker I am a mega Gibson guitar fan! And just like yourself I vastly prefer a Gibson Les Paul Standard minus its white pickguard. I think the 'minus' option to be far better, or as an alternative option i.e. the use of black pickguards on 'burst' and other finishes really appeals to me! Sunburst, white and black Les Paul Customs with a black pickguard look absolutley awesome! The use of a white pickguard would take em a notch or two down imo! For some reason I love the particular black visual accompaniment to be vastly more appealing. Ditto Fender Stratocasters with black scratchplates. I find the black to background colour contrast to be supreme and preferable. I think Gibson should offer its Les Paul Standard range with an additional black pickguard alternative. Why not include both into a guitar case/purchase to cater for all tastes?
@squicker2 күн бұрын
@@rodeoruz yes, agreed, I have a few Les Pauls where I did leave the pickguard on. If you look on my channel I have a video called 'Gibson Montage' where I cycle through my Gibsons, some pickguard on and some off. I think my favourites are my goldtops and I have a nice black Custom 1974 with gold hardware, I think that actually has a black pickguard although I did take that one off! But yes, what great guitars, they all have different personalities.

I once met Michael at an MSG show in Chicago in 1999 and I told him I thought “Force It” was some of his best work. His reply was “Thank you so much”. He then proceeded to sign a poster (to me) that I bought at the show and even signed my ticket stub! I had the poster professionally framed (the ticket stub is in the frame as well). Been on the wall ever since. It remains one of my prized possessions to this day. AWESOME video 🤙🏻😎

Are you running the weber line out directly into a cab or another power amp?
@squicker2 ай бұрын
I took the line out from the Weber Mass into my PC for recording only. I fed it into Amplitube where I used just a 4x12 Marshall Silver Jubilee virtual cab, so I could get that recorded sound. I listened to my real Silver Jubilee while playing, so the Weber line out only used as a recording feed.

As an experienced driver, have you ever driven a Vauxhall VX220 Turbo? It is my dream car and I would like to get an honest opinion on its handling and speed. Thanks Jason 👍
@squicker2 ай бұрын
Yes!! They are amazing cars. My friend (also called Jason) had one back when they were new, I had an Evo 8 at the time. They were essentially matched in performance, but the VX220 Turbo was FAR more engaging to drive, being pure RWD, whereas the Evo 4WD did it all for you. I don't think it has any driver aids apart from ABS, so definitely will keep you on your toes 🙂 A very wise choice for a proper driver's car, although I guess they are hard to find now?
@TheMirrorGuy2 ай бұрын
@squicker there are plenty about, I just can't justify the cost at the moment. I appreciate your feedback, and hopefully in the not to distant future I will be able to justify the cost. My current car is a Mk4 Astra turbo convertible. It has the same 197bhp engine as the VX220, but obviously not the handling. But for £1500 a few years ago now it gives a lot of bang for my bucks. Cheers Jason 🍻
@squicker2 ай бұрын
@@TheMirrorGuy Yeah, 197bhp is enough to have fun. I often think 'less is more'. I'd say my most fun car road is my S2000. Despite what the guy I'm currently debating with thinks, the S2000 has very little outright speed, so it's all about handling and taking things correctly so you can maintain a high average speed, whereas more powerful cars tend to flatter the driver as you can fluff something up, then immediately get that speed back through raw power!
@TheMirrorGuy2 ай бұрын
@squicker The s2000 is a very quick car, and I am much more fun/driver ability driven over full outright bhp and handling assistant gizmos. The one thing that drives me mad sometimes in my current car is when the traction control kicks in and the engine bogs down. That spoils the the driving of the car, as I am quite capable of lifting off the throttle if I need to do so. 👍
@squicker2 ай бұрын
@@TheMirrorGuy over zealous systems are very annoying. My daily driver is an EV (company car) and it’s great to drive but SO intrusive with lane keeping, braking for no reason, binging every time you go 1mph over the limit, it’s more of a distraction than anything else.

I landed on this video semi-randomly via the youtube recommendations. I could criticise and say they are not 'real' songs and that it's just a pre-rehearsed show-off jam, but even so, to play this long with no breaks so impeccably (by all musicians) is truly phenomenal. Top notch performance.
